WOO HOO..... great get!
If Romney offers Hunter the VP, that would seal the deal.
Rush suggested the fact Romney was handsome might take away some of the uh.....women voters from Hillary.
Romney/Blackburn 2008
To all
I think McCain is a jerk but his ACU rating is 82(Lifetime) where Hillary’s (Lifetime) is a 9 !
McCain is wrong a lot of things BUT he is not Hillary !
Let’s use facts & reason in our evaluating candidates leave the feckless “void-of-facts-emoting” to democrats.
Rohrbacher is great!
Ever thought about who he might pick for VP since he’s not planning on running again in 2012. (Lieberman?) We all bitched about Pres. Bush's approach to dealing with the Dims. See where I'm going here?
I hope so too. As a now former Thompson supporter, I admit there's a lot in Romney's favor. He will certainly put Michigan in play, and maybe even other states in the upper midwest. He's also smart and has good business sense. Although he's a "Johnnie-come-lately" conservative, he doesn't hate us. There's also the "handsome factor," which is, sadly, an issue. He'll kill Hillary or Obama in that area. Competence will also be an issue after the Clinton/Bush years. Romney can point to a record of accomplishment in many areas, even if he's not the ideal conservative candidate.
He's also NEW and DIFFERENT. I think there really is a desire for some kind of change out there. It's certainly helped Obama, who has nothing substantial going for him besides that.
Who'd 'a thunk it? A fresh and new candidate from the Northeast/Midwest.
Awesome conservative endorsement from a big state!!!
“What Romney did with health care in MA was as conservative as the legislators and voters would tolerate.”
That comment depicts a level of political understanding which I have come to not expect anymore, on this website.
A rare jewel of reality, in a echo chamber of noise.
(I still think Romney would agree to run for VP with McCain, expecting age and health would make McCain a one termer, giving Romney a chance from incumbency in 4 years)
I’m very fond of reality :-)
As for Romney as VP, I just can’t see it. The man is not accustomed to playing second fiddle to anyone, and doesn’t seem to me to have the personality for it. Plus his private sector opportunities in this economic cycle are colossal. Buy low/sell high opportunities will be plentiful, and with his track record, he could easily go back to Bain or another private equity shop and make another billion or so in the next 4 years.
Private equity funds generally have an “80-20” fee structure, in which the managers get 20 percent of the upside on the investments they make with the limited partners’ money — e.g. pension funds, university endowments, etc. invest $5 billion or so in a fund, managers invest it in companies (in this case, at the bottom of the economic cycle), fix up the companies (and in this case, also ride up the recovery wave), and sell for say $12 billion 4-5 years later; managers’ fee is 20% of the $7 billion profit (the investors get 80%), plus they invariably have a big chunk of their own money invested in the fund, and get 100% of the profit on that.
Obviously Mitt would be sharing such profits with a small team of managers, but it would still be a heck of a lot more attractive than walking two steps behind McCain and having to take abuse from him. He’d also be worried (with good reason) that association with McCain could end up being damaging to his future political chances, depending on what sort of stunts McCain pulled while in office.
I its a McCain/Romney ticket, I would stay home and feel very okay with that.
No McCain, ever.
This is excellent. Rohrabacher is a hard line fighter on the illegals/border security issue.
Radio news just stated Romney is gaining in CA; hope it’s in time for February 5.
“Governor Romney can also be expected to provide strong economic leadership because he is the only candidate with private sector experience and a successful track record of creating jobs and managing a major corporation.
“I’m confident in Governor Romney’s character and commitment to the principals at the heart of the Republican party. I cannot say that about the other candidates vying for the Republican nomination. Mitt Romney is the best candidate available for our party’s nomination, and I’m going to vote for and support him. I encourage my fellow conservatives to do the same.”
Funny...:)
Questioned about gun control, McCain said existing laws should be enforced, noting that the Clinton Administration has been "derelict" in doing that. But he also said that he supported the recent gun control legislation passed by the Senate and he also said that in light of the recent spate of shootings, new proposals by the Clinton Administration should be looked at by Congress and not dismissed out of hand. http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/stories/1999/08/18/president.2000/thompson.mccain/
McCain flipped on guns
Senator McCain supported the interests of the Gun Owners of America 0 percent in 2005. (that's not good!)
Senator McCain supported the interests of the Gun Owners of America 100 percent in 2006. (wow, what a convenient flip!)
Based on lifetime voting records on gun issues and the results of a questionnaire sent to all Congressional candidates in 2004, the National Rifle Association assigned Senator McCain a grade of C+ (with grades ranging from a high of A+ to a low of F).
Imho, pushing a Romney-Thompson ticket is the wrong way to go. Fred has said he would NOT consider VP, and he demonstrated low numbers. He obviously doesn’t have the energy for politics, has a young family and an ailing mother. Romney would do best to pick a VP from outside the range of current and ex-candidates.
Mine too....a good man.
According to Tom DeLay, mcCAIN has NO redeeming qualities. I agree.
