it doesn't matter if they were a famous celebrity or your next door neighbor

Uh, yeah...big difference.

The neighbor you may very well know, and/or care for. His family may need personal help, prayers.

A celebrity doesn't need my help, respect, etc. He's got millions of people weeping, fawning over him, watching hours of coverage on ET and believing they knew him personally.

NO. While respecting and praying for your next-door neighbor, even moreso, that still doesn't mean you SHOULDN'T still have some prayers for a celebrity that has died. It's not an either-or thing. Respecting the neighbor doesn't mean you can't respect the celebrity to some degree, either.

He's got millions of people weeping, fawning over him, watching hours of coverage on ET and believing they knew him personally.

Okay, so that's what people are doing when they are praying or wishing a R.I.P. for a famous person who has died. Saying a prayer for the family or wishing respect doesn't mean you have to watch any ET coverage or attend the funeral personally. Give me a break. You are a sick and pathetically classless human being. I'm done with you. I will not talk to you again, nor read anything else you have to say.

Your kids need to learn to look to Jesus, not human beings, for guidance. They’ll be let down every time.

Now why on earth would I mail you personally?

you can't respect the celebrity to some degree

Of course, some celebrities are respectable. But most in Hollyweird aren't. I'm not mocking him but Heath Ledger certainly never struck me as the respectable type.

I am aware of that, but none of us live in a vacuum. Our actions affect each other.

I'll never be able to watch "The Patriot" again. He was such a fresh-faced young actor in that film, so full of promise. Great screen presence. Bless Mel Gibson for giving Heath Ledger his big break. That was his breakout role.

Sad ...he showed real promise as the wonderful son in "The Patriot,"

What I find interesting is that in NONE of the stories I've read about this incident, has any publication mentioned his role in "The Patriot".

They list his movie roles, starting with "10 Things I Hate About You" in 1999, then skip over the year 2000 when "The Patriot" was released and go right to the year 2001 and list "A Knight's Tale" as his next accomplishment.

Could it be because it is seen as a Mel Gibson film? The NY Times seems to be leading the way in this regard.

Sometimes it's the little things that catch your eye.

That caught my attention too, that none of the obits mention "The Patriot". As if it's "poison" because it was made by Mel Gibson. BTW, I wonder if Mel has commented on Heath's death.

I agree, the fact that we can feel compassion for fellow human beings, separates us from the animals.

Yikes, Michael Savage is taking the low road, calling Heath "what's the shock, another junkie dying of an overdose, let's move on."

A very sad situation. He did one part that people did not like and everyone thinks that is why he killed himself? What kind of people do we have on FREE REPUBLIC these days? I find it disgusting (I know you don’t feel that way). Anyway prayers to his family and that beautiful baby.

He was a talented 28 year-old with a young daughter. Some people really are tasteless around here.

No kidding.

I'm sorry, I still cry when I watch Brokeback Mountain. Kind of tough to pull off, making an audience cry about a gay love affair, IMO.

And in real life, he had a two-year old little girl who will be forever marked by this.

God rest his soul.

Eternal rest grant unto him. May perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.

THANK YOU!

I hardly ever come here anymore, and maybe I'll be banned for this, but darn it, a human being with a little girl died today, so prayers are appropriate. I think everyone can agree on that.

There’s nothing you said that you’ll be banned for saying.

It is sad this young man died and left a little girl behind. I’m offended by all of the tasteless jokes as well.

Ledger seems to have been a tormented sort and I pray for him and his family.

He has....

Screen star Mel Gibson, who starred alongside Ledger in the film ‘The Patriot,’ said his thoughts and prayers were with the younger actor’s family.

“I had such great hope for him,” Gibson said in a statement released by his publicist. “He was just taking off and to lose his life at such a young age is a tragic loss.”

I didn’t even know he had a daughter. That makes it all the more sad. Some folks just want to dance on the grave of folks they don’t like; tacky, but what can you do?
