Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee
National Review Online ^ | 1-23-08 | Byron York

Posted on 01/23/2008 12:29:02 PM PST by TitansAFC

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:

"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base."

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

I don’t think Hunter did enough research on his Bud Huckabee, but I wasn’t up to speed on Huckabee either until a month or so ago, when the citizens of Arkansas brought me up to speed.

Hunter may not have talked to the good people from Arkansas. I’d recommend he do.

What difference would it make? Which one is worse?

Well, they'd both lose in the general, so there'd be no difference from a practical standpoint. But for me, McCain is the worse of the two.

We’re all in trouble now. All 3 of his votes now belong to Huck. :-)

How so?

Now that Thompason’s gone, he’s got no one at all. If he just pouts and says he’ll not participate, that’s as good as supporting Obama/Hillary/Edwards nominee.

So no matter what he does he’ll get criticized.

yes they do. the endorsement makes almost perfect sense...except for the illegal issue and national security. That was really hunter’s strong suit for many conservatives but he apparently felt economic populism was more important.

“Vote for McCain.”

Sadly, we are now left with Rudy McHuckney.

I will hold my nose and support Mitt Romney. I’m pretty sure I can’t hold it tight enough to support any of the other candidates. McCain is pretty much a non-starter.

this will be a plus for Huckabee if he announces Hunter for VP

Not gonna happen. A VP pick should translate into additional support for the presidential candidate. Hunter had next to none.

I think this really does show how lousy the remaining choices are. Since the last conservative dropped out I haven’t decided which RINO I’m going to support. If it wasn’t for the fact that it would be far worse to have Hillary, Obama, or Edwards in there I wouldn’t support any of them.

Although I’m surprized, I’m not sure why. I could not support Hunter because I saw him as a populist. His endorsement of Huckabee confirms that.

Rush will have to add him to the dictionary entry:

EIB Dictionary Time: Populist (n.)

Populism Is Not Conservatism: Populism is back. Just don't call it conservatism.

I can tell you one thing, I’m not enthused with the current choices.
