Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee
National Review Online ^ | 1-23-08 | Byron York

Posted on 01/23/2008 12:29:02 PM PST by TitansAFC

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:

"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base."

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

I think Hunter made the right choice.

Hunter is looking at the big picture.

This is rich....hey Hunter supporters he endorsed the Huckster!!!

How's it feel.

It hurts like hell, Dog. It's right up there with Gilchrist endorsing Mike.

But if by a very long shot the Huckster gets the nomination, he's gonna lose to Hillary big time.

So ask me if I give a damn about our flip-flopping self-serving Politicans anymore.

I wonder what would happen here if NRTL decided to endorse Huckabee, now that Fred is gone.

Who knows? Before the campaign started, some of the RTL organizations were talking up Brownback. But that never seemed like a serious choice to me.

Since then, NRTL made it's endorsement of Fred, but most of the RTL organisations I am in touch with haven't endorsed anybody. They have said that Hillary or Obama would be disasters, but they haven't endorsed a Republican that I know of. I don't think Phyllis Schafly has endorsed anyone, either.

Obviously Giuliani is out, whereas the other three are all supposedly pro-life. Much depends on how determined you think they will be, and how skillful at appointing strong judges over rabid Democrat opposition.

He already said he does not plan to endorse anyone.

-———————————————————>

Fred also said he was going to go to Florida as well, regardless of SC.

I can’t believe Hunter!!! TOTALLY IN SHOCK.

Next thing would be Huckabee converting to a Jew or Muslim to cover the vote in the Northeast and Upper Midwest.

What’s the heck is happening?

Yes it is time that the truth be told on this front.

We keep being told by our angry paleocons that they know best about the “Huckster”

Personally, I would like to win the election in 2008. Yes, Huckabee is rhetorically shrewd. It is infuriating that we have to pick the new Reagan based on who is the most brazen candidate and unworkable with the media.

Huckabee is far more conservative than the FR community has allowed. So little debate is directed at his stated positions.

perhaps Huckabee is being misrepresented on FR

You can take that to the bank. Huck has his problems, and he is not my first choice.

If people want to accuse him of having liberal tendencies in some of his policies, that's legitimate. I agree with that.

But when I read a bunch of copycat posters trying to outdo each other piling epithets on him ... he's Elmer Gantry, a socialist, a shyster, a Pharisee, a hypocrite, more liberal than most Democrats, or "the devil in the flesh" as one poster put it ... I take it all with a big grain of salt to say the least ... particularly when some of it is combined with slurs directed toward evangelical Christians.

Frankly I've never known a "socialist" who is staunchly pro-life, strongly pro-Second-Amendment, has signed a no-new-taxes pledge, and wants to abolish the IRS.

And I was thinking he could run for Feinstein’s seat. Uh-uh!

He knew Huckabee well and couldn’t spot the phony soaplike film coating him??

Does popped squirrel taste better than I imagine??

One of my key issues is the Second Amendment. Between Huck and Willard, Huck wins hands down. Same for John and Rudy.

Huck-A-PHONY has said lots of things and said the opposite of what he just said, only to so before a different group of folks and said something 180 degrees out from what he said the day before.

It looks he is trying to top John Kerry’s FLIPFLOP Record!

What’s next? Rush endorses Obama?

No the worse would be Rush endorsing a Clinton/Clinton Ticket.

Huckabee is over as a candidate. He will lose badly in FL and will probably come in 4th in CA.

As for me, I’m wandering in the wilderness since Fred dropped out.

Welcome to the Wilderness. I've been here for the last year. Frankly, none of these guys have excited me. Up until this election I always considered myself a broken-glass Republican. No more.

“Did Duncan Hunter just put Huckabee under the microscope?”

Nah. He just wrapped up the NRA endorsement for him.
