Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee
National Review Online ^ | 1-23-08 | Byron York

Posted on 01/23/2008 12:29:02 PM PST by TitansAFC

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:

"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base."

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

My only conclusion is that he has no idea about Huck’s record.

I will never look upon Hunter as a Conservative again. This is very disappointing.

Hunter is looking at the big picture
-———————————————————>

He must be using the wrong end of the binoculars or rose colored glasses!

If this is the big picture I’m thinking the world is still flat.

How about “None of the above”? Or just say nothing?

Agreed.

Hell, what choice did Duncan Hunter have, unless he just wants to give no input whatsoever.

Ya’ll think he should have endorsed Mitt Romney because Flip SOUNDS conservative now?? He ran making himself a liberal against Kennedy years back.

I could have seen Hunter endorsing McCain from a military standpoint, but since I’ve researched Huckabee’s trade platform and the fact he signed the NumbersUSA pledge, Huckabee was starting to make sense as well.

I would have lost all respect for Duncan had he endorsed our GOP John Kerry.

Now I remember why I liked Thompson better than Hunter. Huckabee’s supporters seem to tout his “character” but underneath the facade is what seems like a lot of weaselishness and disingenuity. That, and a predilection for stoking class warfare. No thanks. Won’t get my vote in the primary or the general.

Oooof....

Sorry, Hunter supporters. That’s gotta hurt. How anyone could construe Huckabee’s pro-illegal record as being strong on the border is beyond me.

I want to publicly apologize to counterpunch for predicting this correctly.
He was right and predicted this would happen.
I was wrong.

Huckabee, I just can’t see him on the world stage dealing with Putin and Kim Jong Mentally Ill.

Huckabee is the Wally Cox of American politics.

He is frumpy, weak-looking, short, balding (not that there is anything wrong with that), and he projects timid attitude.

Romney is confident, and he projects strength and integrity.

Romney stands tall, looks people straight in the eye, and speaks with clarity.

And this might sound petty, but that lazy eye thing Huckabee has going on drives me nuts.

I know it is something he was born with, and that no one can control, but it just looks wrong for a US President.

(my apologies Mr. Huckabee, if you are reading this)

Romney projects strength and American power.

So does Fred Thompson. So does Duncan Hunter.

McCain looks like a doof, with his bulging lymph nodes and puffy cheeks.

Rudy looks.... well, he looks like a Rudolph, for certain.

I’m still taking the wait and see approach.

Exactly. There may be some reasoning that is beyond the obvious.
What did people expect, McCain as the anti Hunter people were spaming the past few days. They must be disappointed.

Personally it still won’t get me to vote for the Huckster but Hunter may know something I don’t.

Listen to Hunter.

He has the ultimate good of the country in mind.

I would rather vote for Hillary or Obama than the Huckster. Why? Because after four years of Hillary/Obama, there's a really good chance that the masses will see the light and elect a Republican House, Senate, and POTUS (or hopefully, at least two out of three).

I agree. It worked back in '92. We traded George H.W. Bush for Clinton, and in just four years liberalism was seen for what it is, and we aren't in the mess we are in now. /s

I wonder what would happen here if NRTL decided to endorse Huckabee, now that Fred is gone.

That would be interesting. Huck is the staunchest pro-gun guy left in the running, little doubt. I even heard him explaining to Glenn Beck that the Second Amendment was not meant just to protect hunters, but to allow us to protect ourselves against tyranny, and our own government, if necessary.

But since so many FR posters assure me he's a "Marxist" and all ... I surely must have misheard him.
