The Incumbent (And Hillary's Fatal Political Flaws)
Washington Post ^ | 25 January 2008 | Michael Gerson

Posted on 01/26/2008 7:45:28 AM PST by shrinkermd

...But Clinton has three problems that make her the weakest, most divisive Democrat in the race:

First, she is a living symbol of the culture wars of the 1990s and will rally the Republican base like no other candidate.

It is always easier to remind voters than to instruct them. And it won't take much reminding for Republicans when it comes to Clinton and her high-profile husband. Just a few words and phrases are necessary to evoke an entire era: "I didn't inhale." Kathleen Willey. Whitewater. "Two for the price of one." Polling to select vacation sites. Baking cookies. Joycelyn Elders. Hillarycare. "What the meaning of the word 'is' is." Blue dress. "That woman." Lewinsky, as noun and verb.

For many conservatives -- social, economic and otherwise -- that list is the trumpet call to old battles. Clinton may feel victimized by the "vast right-wing conspiracy" -- but she also recruits it, feeds it and sends it to war.

Second, Clinton is the candidate who most muddles the Democratic message of change.

This will undoubtedly be a change election -- about 77 percent of Americans believe the country is on the wrong track, the highest number since the 1995-96 shutdown of the federal government. But unlike many past presidential contests, no Republican incumbent or vice president will appear on the ticket. All the Republican candidates are able to run as fresh faces.

Third, the Clintons practice a form of politics without honor. Already Clinton's proxies have attacked Obama as a drug user and maybe a drug dealer, and bemoaned politicians who "shuck and jive."

Given the Clintons' cultivation of ruthlessness as a political art, none of this is surprising...

Excerpt limitations limited the full force of what Gerson sees as wrong with the Hillary as a candidate. There seems to be continuous MSM turning away from the Clintons.

At this point I am more concerned about the Republican nominee. A candidate that is considered liberal will keep conservative voters home. I am afraid Clinton will win by default.

Then again, America loved John Gotti.

Our fascination with criminals disgusts me.

Where was all of this MSM wisdom when Bill was molesting women in the White House? The media is tacitly admitting its complicity in the corrupt Clinton presidency. Next thing you know, they’ll be self righteously demanding an inquiry into the death of Vince Foster. This hypocrisy serves only to deepen my contempt for the media.

All the Republican candidates are able to run as fresh faces.

This is not the case with John McCain. His is a very well known face. I see at the very end, Gerson selects him as our candidate, along with the rest of the MSM.

It has always amazed me how willing the democrat party members have been willing to put up with from the Clintons for the sake of power. Now the entire party is full of and run by guttersnipes with no room at all for anything remotely statesmanlike.

Is Gerson a lib? There seems to be a number of articles coming out lately from libs that are starting to get worried that Clinton is going to unite the GOP base like no other Dem candidate, which will lead to defeat for them (the Dems) in November.

But even amid this ideological discord, there are three words that cause nearly every Republican to forget their differences and join hands in common purpose: President Hillary Clinton.

You can reduce it to 2 words. Hillary Clinton. Americans will be coming out in millions to exercise their right to defeat an anti-truth, anti-freedom, anti-life, co-conspirator.

Run Hillary Run!

The big question is whether Blacks will suffer from "Battered Wife Syndrome?"

After Hillary beats up on Obama (any by extension, Blacks), will they come out to support Hillary in November? Like a battered wife, they cannot leave (i.e., vote Republican). They will have to come back into the fold, and vote Democrat, if they are ever to expect any more crumbs from the Democrat table in the future.

Nice to read.....

but aren’t these a hoot?

“Third, the Clintons practice a form of politics without honor.”

“Given the Clintons’ cultivation of ruthlessness as a political art, none of this is surprising...”

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

When their candidate is threatened - they call the Clintons without honor and ruthless.

When President Bush and/or other Republicans are treated exactly the same by the Clinton led Demonrat mafia ===== the Washington Compost jump on the “ruthless, without honor” bandwagon and join right in!!!

It is at least refreshing to have a liberal birdcage liner say this about the Clintonistas....even if it is the pot calling the kettle black.

"Broken Glass Republican" Definition:

"Term that was coined in 2000 to describe those supposedly so intent on wiping out all traces of the Bill Clinton administration that they would be willing to do anything, including walk over broken glass."

Broken Glass Republicans, Unite!

Don’t forget cattle futures, FBI files, Rose lawfirm files, travelgate, I don’t recall, I don’t remember; it goes on and on and on with the Clintons. Hopefully we will be rid of them soon!

And yet, when the election is on and it’s Hillary v. GOPx, Obama will be rallying the African-Americans and muslims for Hillary. It’ll be a tough combination to beat.
