When political experts break down the GOP primary election in Florida, they often talk about whether conservative voters will break for Mike Huckabee, John McCain or Mitt Romney.
But Bill McCollum, Florida's Attorney General and a staunch conservative, said they should be also talking about Rudy Giuliani.
Though Giuliani is more moderate on social issues like abortion, "any other way heâs very conservative." McCollum said his efforts to clean up New York City and his fiscal policies - namely cutting taxes and spending - are very much from conservative thinking.
If he wasn't McCollum said he wouldn't be pounding the pavement for Giuliani as he was on St. Armand's Circle this morning where Giuliani was addressing a crowd of supporters.
McCollum is an anti-abortion Christian conservative who, while in Congress fought to keep an anti-abortion plank in the GOP platform and led the effort to impeach President Clinton in the 1990s.

Another Republican sells his soul.
I also know Rudy is the only true fiscal conservative running in this election. He's got my support.
I am sure you will be ever so much happier with Hillary or Obama...
I haven't thought about Rudy since Fred dropped out because he appears to be dead in the water unless he wins Florida. He did give a great talk to the Federalist Society in November and he expressed a strong commitment to appointing strict constructionist, non-activist judges.
I'm not supporting Rudy, but I think a lot of McCollum.
Compared to Huck and McCain, Rudy is Barry Goldwater reincarnated.
“I’m not surprised. Anyone that isn’t blinded with hate can see truth. True Christians know, social issues like abortion shouldn’t be a government issue - it’s a mindset and laws don’t change mindsets.
And he led the effort to impeach the toon - a guy with a backbone, also. This guy knows Rudy is the one who will defeat Ms.Toon.”
Exactly! You may not have a screen name, but you certainly have facts, logic, and common sense on your side. :) That’s why McCollum, Forbes, Ted Olson, Bill Simon and a lot of conservatives, whose conservative credentials cannot be questioned, support him.
Thank you. But I just learned something from you. Didn’t know about Bill Simon. Real conservatives know their own.
I remember when McCollum was one of our congressman but tonight I saw him on TV with Gov. Crist at a rally for McCain. As a FL resident and former supporter of Tancredo and Hunter, I’d certainly support Rudy before John “amnesty” McCain and his buddy Ted Kennedy. I don’t agree with some of Rudy’s social positions but in NYC he cleaned up crime, reduced welfare, lowered taxes, and cut the bureaucracy. His best endorsement, to me, was when the NY Times attacked him.
If a president can really have an impact on abortions, please explain, why do we still have abortions after 8 years of Ronald Reagan, 4 years of Bush I and 8 years of GW Bush — very strong anti-abortion, pro life presidents?
Not to mention — what do you think the result will be after Hillary nominates and the Dem Senate confirms a large number activist judges. I read some statistics somewhere, that already a third of the Federal judges have been appointed by Bill Clinton.
Red County Interview: Bill Simon On Rudy Giuliani

Bill Simon: I think Rudy will make an extraordinary President. I don’t know of anyone I’m in 100% agreement with respect to every issue — even my fellow conservatives. So I’m not troubled if I don’t agree with someone on every issue as long as they demonstrate very strong leadership qualities, which Rudy does, and a very strong sense of public service, which Rudy does, and a very firm agenda in areas that are important to me and in a way in which he can execute — all of which Rudy does.
When you think about the priorities he’s expressed — things like national security — I don’t know of anyone better in the public arena now who can handle issues of national security better than Mayor Giuliani.
And when you talk about issues related to fiscal conservatism, which are important to Rudy, I don’t know anybody in the public arena who has cut taxes 23 times as Rudy did when he was mayor of New York; who has shrunk the size of government, which he did when he was mayor of New York; reduced the welfare rolls by over 50 percent, which he did when he was mayor of New York. And that’s not going into reducing crime by 65% and many other things that he did while mayor in a situation that, before he became mayor, was widely regarded as the second toughest job in American politics, and was widely regarded as an ungovernable situation.
I think he did an extraordinary job as Mayor of New York in a Democrat-controlled environment, and being able to function as a fiscal conservative in that Democrat-controlled environment is an amazing achievement.
Cunningham: How long have you known Mayor Giuliani?
Simon: I met Mayor Giuliani back in May, 1985 when I went to work for him as an Assistant U.S. Attorney.
