Hey, Al Gore! Give Me Light Bulbs and Thermostats or Give Me Death!

Minus 17° F. That was the low temperature this mid-winter morning as I walked outside and coughed on the frigid arctic air that burned my windpipe as I attempted to inhale it, before starting my minivan's engine so it could idle for 20 minutes and then be warm enough to drive.

Some think we Minnesotans are crazy to live in such conditions, but then every location has its risks – hurricanes in the southeast, summer heat in the desert southwest, and so on. Those of us endowed with a healthy sense of humility, logic and common sense understand that these extremes are perfectly normal; that they have been occurring off and on for many, many years; and that they are far beyond our puny ability to significantly affect.

Sadly, this grounded understanding has completely escaped one Al Gore and his radical environmentalist acolytes. Ol' Al has jumped off the reality train and headed for parts unknown.

I want to share a personal experience about those CF bulbs. I picked up a bunch because CA and SDGE were subsidizing them and they were about $1 each. Much cheaper than the usual $8~10.

Anyway, within in 4 months one nearly cough fire in the socket (lots of smoke) and another burned out.

So much for lasting longer. =o(

The others are still going OK and they are nearly 10 mo old.

I have 2 G.E. 100 watt bulbs in a hall way that were here more than 15 years ago, that I have never changed, I use them as often as any other bulbs in my house but they are the only ones that are still here and were here when I moved in.

Some kind of fluke for sure because I change the other bulbs regularly.

If we wouldn’t be wasting time and money with the ethanol boondoggle, windmill power generation, mandating that we fill out homes with toxic mercury laden light bulbs and giving the government control of our home thermostats but were building safe and efficient nuclear power plants and tapping sources of oil in our own backyard, we wouldn’t have an energy crisis. I am certain that if the tree huggers have their way most of us will be living in 800 sq. ft. “green” houses, using composting toilets, showering with recycled water from our sinks and laundry, freezing with our government controlled heating and walking or bicycling to work even in winter because we cannot use or afford to drive our cars while Al Gore, RFK jr,the Hollywood lefties and bigwigs in the Sierra Club will still be living in their mansions, flying in private jets and riding in limos while berating us for not doing enough to save the planet.

We’ve had the CF bulbs since they first came out. Decided to try them. They have outlasted the incandescent bulbs, but the light output isn’t satisfactory in our opinion. Having had them in certain locations such as the front porch light, bathroom light, and the night light in the Den for considerable time now we are of the opinion that we can live with them, but we really don’t like them.

So, what your saying, is that the global warming we get ever summer is some sort of “season”?

Who are you going to get to believe that?

Come on! Al-Gore (Peace be upon him) has spoke to us from on high! Are you going to denie him? Three times? Before the cock crows?

Smite the non-believes (in global warming) where you find them. Make no non-believes your friends as they are trying to weaken you faith. (So sayeth Al-Gore (praise be his name)){sarcams alert}

I read an article about the Incandescent Ban....(assuming that the 'reporter' got it correct...) All incandescents are NOT banned - if a light bulb can deliver a certain number of lumens at a certain, lower, wattage - it's able to be sold.

I'm sure that it's a TOTAL coincidence, but the article also talked about how Phillips is coming out with a lower power incandescent bulb that delivers exactly what the gov't is looking for.

The folks at GE, Phillips, etc must LOVE having the gov't mandate people to buy their products.

Now that’s odd...we’ve had ours for a good while now and nary a problem. I especially like the one in the light socket on the bed...they run very cool, compared to the blast furnace feeling from having even a 60 watt incandescent bulb.

You’ll have to replace all those incandescent dimmers with dimmers designed to operate flourescent lamps.

They are available exclusively here for $200.00 each from

ALGORE ELECTRIC AND CARBON CREDIT, LLC
666 Delusional Drive
Intercourse, PA 99999

Don,t worry, AlGore is fighting for you (remember "I will fight for you"), there are already dimmable cfl's on the market, pricey though. Algore never said fighting global warming will be cheap, that's why he travels in private jet which is not cheap.

See this is the thing. The average person doesn’t understand what 60 watts actually means. It’s difficult to comprehend, I understand. But when you pay for a decent CF lightbulb, they are well worth the cost.

I was watching the news this weekend and they were talking about the record cold and snow in the Rockies. The news anchor asked the weatherman, “Is this caused by global warming?”

"news"

There is a conference on Global Warming being held in my old hometown of La Crosse, Wisconsin in the next week. Various speakers exclaimed in a newspaper interview about the importance this conference will have in stopping this dreaded er something. Last week temperatures in the area got down to more than thirty below zero in several communities. I hope some local residents are starting to catch on.
