The Penguins have seemingly had their hands full of late with high-ankle sprains and illnesses and a fiercely competitive Eastern Conference, but over the weekend, yet another hurdle materialized with which to contend. This one was put firmly in place by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and, as of Monday afternoon, it was preventing Kris Beech from leaving his native Canada and rejoining one of his former teams.
"He could get into Canada, I bet," Pens defenseman Ryan Whitney said. "That would never be a problem. You play hockey, you can get into Canada.
"America's got no respect for the NHL."
Whitney, for the record, is a U.S. citizen. Beech, in a manner of speaking, is temporarily a man without a country.
Or, more accurately, a man who can't get into this one.

"We got all these people from Mexico and all these guys coming in, and Beech can't get in," Whitney said. "I don't get it; he speaks English.

Well apparently that's his problem! DUH!
If he were Hispanic, uneducated, spoke Spanish, had no paper work and jumped a fence he'd have "rights".
Since he speaks English, is white and has gainful employment he's an immigration problem.
I'm so proud of our border and immigration officials!
too
Not living near a border, How does one drive across the Can-Am border if you just want to shop for a few hours?.......
“America’s got no respect for the NHL.”
I used to be a fan of the NHL until the strike of 2004. You players lost my respect and your strike killed the fanbase.
Thats because we got enough Canadian hockey players. He should have told customs he's employed in landscaping.......
I used to be able to just show my driver’s license and go.
You now need a birth certificate and/or passport now from what I understand.
And Ryan Whitney's "got no respect for" the law.
"We got all these people from Mexico and all these guys coming in, and Beech can't get in," Whitney said. "I don't get it; he speaks English.
And President Bush's "got no respect for" the law.
Well DUH....THAT's why he can't get in,,,,,he should have brushed up on his spanish before entering, he would have been given the red carpet treatment.
You can literally walk across the border from Buffalo into Canada, I’ve done it, show your ID and you’re good to go.
Actually - he should have just walked across the border anywhere but at an official border crossing (or taken a boat across a lake) and nothing would have happened. Come on -even illegals are more creative than actually trying to do things the “right” way...
Here in Detroit you just drive thru the tunnel or over the Ambassador bridge to Windsor. But unless you want a new standard toilet to replace your low volume, multiple flusher, there's no reason to anymore due to the Canadian dollar being equal to the US dollar.
I used to be a fan of the NHL until the strike of 2004. You players lost my respect and your strike killed the fanbase.
I too lost interest at that point, but let's assign blame where it belongs.
It wasn't a strike, it was a lockout. You could say that the owners feared a strike would be coming, but it was the owners and the owners alone who killed the season.
That's what happens when you hire the NBA's lawyer to run hockey.
This sounds very Eastern-European. “Vere are your papers?”
No reason to come to Windsor? Come on. The Windsor Ballet? The casino? Drinking at 19? And yes, we have real “full flow” toilets.
I hear Hillary is a lifelong Penguins fan. She even remembers celebrating thier first SuperWorldSeriesBowl Cup.
“America’s got no respect for the NHL.”
Right, not since we won it all last year. Maybe he has never heard of the Ducks.
The players didn't strike. The owners locked em out.
Hillary would never bother pretending she's a Red Sox,Patriots or Bruins fan.She knows that she'll carry the state 70%-30%.
The Stanley Cup hasn’t been won by a Canadian team since the 1992-93 Montreal Canadians.
