CNN had some sort of audience reaction meter going during the entire debate. Romney and sometimes Huckabee were up to 70 and above. McCain was at 50 most of the time and went as low as 30 when he went negative. Most who watched it and commented on the live thread were similarly disgusted.

I watched part of it and got so upset with it I turned it off..With the field getting slimmer and slimmer and our choices reduced thanks to these early primaries..we out west are getting what is left of the field. I suppose we could vote for anyone who has dropped out but would that be wasting a vote? I was leaning toward Romney and will go with him. None are perfect but Romney has the composure to get his points across in a non hostile manner. I am so sick of hearing about MCCain as though he is the only man to have suffered during the Viet Nam War and as if he was the only POW to have suffered. And don’t forget there were rumors that he cooperated with the enemy..I am not saying he did this..but there were rumors and you can bet the Hildabeast will bring that up if just to stir the pot when he starts slinging dirt her way. This whole election cycle is pitiful, frankly on both sides.

The more I saw of him last night, the more I didn’t want to see him as president for the next 4 yrs.

I’m trying to think of anyone in political history that has “used” the hero moniker so blatantly – it’s always on the surface with McCain – in fact, even regular folks simply don’t bring up that stuff in public forums. The tragic part is that prior to point out practically any fact relating to the McCain record, other politicians seems to feel compelled to point out respect for the hero status – but, I believe that that come from McCain’s intent to keep that status always on the table so that it softens the blow from real facts about his record, his personality, his age – he’s an old man: looks old, talks old, walks old – cannot give a speech without reading it. In many ways, he’s Bush-light – but there’s always that hero thing.

Thanks-I feel better now.

But they call John McCain a conservative. I just don’t want to be lumped into the same category as him!

LOL!

I watched a few seconds of it - enough to know that I didn’t want to watch any more. McCain was smirking and smiling and sticking his legs out while Romney was talking. And the camera loved showing McCain in the same shot with Romney - just to show these non-verbal reactions. McCain has terrible body language. I just can’t imagine him dealing with heads of state. If we want to be embarrassed for another 4 years with this buffoon...

The media is going to have a field day savaging McCain if he wins the republican nomination. They’ll pretty much destroy him.
He can’t win the Presidency, unless we’re attacked right before Nov. Then he might have a chance

Unfortunately, I’d guess the majority of people voting for him didn’t even watch the debate.

And for those sheeple, the Drive-Bys are only too happy to supply the sanitized, saccharine John McCain, war hero [sic], defender of liberty [sic], and inevitable Republican nominee.

Just a ping from a military man NOT “in lockstep” with McCain.

Re: Why is he a hero, I understand he had the opportunity to leave the Hanoi Hilton and refused to leave his comrades. He ended up enjoying the “hospitality” for a couple more years. That is a hero to me, if true.

“I am retired military and I am NOT in lock step with him..not all of us are!”

I did not say that. It’s just that it seems to me that the active and retired vets are pulling the lever for McCain, and no one calls them out on the carpet.

Anyone I have known, and there have been MOH receipients in this circle, they are always extremely modest about their awards for heroism..McCain seeks the limelight and this is self promotion at it’s worst.

The center-left of the GOP are predictably shifting the theme of the primary fight from ‘may the best man win’ to ‘criticism of McCain = president Hillary’.

My wife watches the local Fox station for weather, chat and other goodies.

This morning, they ran a clip from last night’s debate and she called me in to watch.

McAinal was an arrogant bastard with his responses.

Time for FR and others to do a Rudy Job on McAinal.

McCain's been the Perot candidate running as a third party. Conservatives have split their vote 2 or 3 ways until now. McCain will be old news in a week or two. Romney's the candidate.

The election comes down to debates. He will wipe the floor with B. Hussein or Hillary. I hope it's Hillary. It will be one of the funniest humiliations in political history. Nobody is more unlikeable or untrustworthy. In spontaneous conversation, she's a laughable idiot. And nasty and arrogant to boot. I can't wait.

I completely agree with what Tall Horse said, and if I heard correctly, a comment was made after the debate that the John McCain campaign is 4.5 million in debt. What kind of leader (fiscal or otherwise) is this? If this is what’s happening so far, what will happen to the country? I found his discussion of cutting frivolous spending laughable.
