That is un-called for. Most people have never seen the destruction wolves do. I don’t think putting ranchers out of business is something to joke about.
Also, welcome to FR. You must be the anti-hinting DU crowd that migrated over here a couple of years ago. Have fun saving the whales and stuff
Can you read? I joined a year and a half ago. Little late with the “welcome.”
You have only lived in California and Maryland and you are a Wolf expert?!??!?!? That is to funny. My hunch is that you might have had an interest in biology and might have even went to college and had some activist “teach” you his/her opinions disguised as facts and you swallowed them. You don’t know squat about wolves so nice try.
Can you read? I didn’t say I was a wolf expert, I said I’m basing my “opinion” on the words of a someone who studies wolves. What makes YOU a wolf expert.
And quit assuming that I’m some kind of liberal asshole just because my “opinions” don’t line up with yours. If I were a liberal I wouldn’t be here.
...and I suppose being to Germay, Iraq, Panama, and Afghanistan makes you a wolf expert. That is too funny.
Yellowstone Wolf Experiment Out of Control
It is with great sadness that I write this column. You didnt have to be a wildlife biologist to foresee the outcome when you mix Canadian timber wolves with the wildlife of Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstones wildlife populations have plummeted.
Wolves are brutal, vicious predators and have a tremendous impact on all wildlife in any ecosystem.
The original plan was for 78-100 wolves to be introduced into Yellowstone. Of course, you realize hunting is not permitted in Yellowstone or any other National Park.
In less than 10 years the effect wolves have had on Yellowstones wildlife has been nothing less than devastating. Elk populations hang around 10,000; the moose and deer are almost completely gone. Antelope went from 600 to 200 specimens. Sheep populations have fallen from 300 to 40, possibly an inadequate amount to repopulate the Park.
Wolves are attacking horses, mules, livestock and stalking children. The economic health of the region has collapsed and so has the outfitting business north of Yellowstone.
The wolves are multiplying at the rate of 34% a year. There are now 370 wolves in Yellowstone and 770 in the tri-state area of Montana, Wyoming and Idaho. Wildlife in that region is getting hammered.
Forget what you heard about wolves killing only the weak and sick. Wolves are canines and like dogs, they kill by instinct and for fun.
Aerial photographs document dead, red wildlife carcasses over the landscape. Wolves practice surplus killing whether they are hungry or not.

Yes, that is true. But people are taking my comments out of context. I am not saying wolf populations should be allowed to explode unchecked. That is foolish. Hunting them is essential to maintain ecological balance and keep livestock numbers from plummeting.
I have done years of research as I have:
1) Flown for the state of Alaska doing Wolf counts for more than 8 years.
2) Recieved my first B.S. degree in WB.
3) Interned with Montana FW&P doing telemetry on Elk Calves
4) Worked as hunting guide for 5 years in wolf country
I promise you that I have spent more time on the $hitter than you have in the outdoors so go watch your discovery shows sonny and quit wasting people’s time. Also, first you say it is impossible for wolves to anialate a species because of preproduction, and then you change that to “that’s because people aren’t allowed to hunt them and keep the wolf pop. in check”. Whatever, you have offically been demoted to a wanna-be expert.
Don't know about moose but we have a coyote problem in Orange County NY. There are rural areas where they live quite happily. Unfortunately for us.
Also, your tagline is something that is learned on the very fist day of Biology 101. I take it back that you might have studied somewhere. You are just a child
And when did I say my tagline was any indicator of my knowledge of biology??? Nowhere did I say I was an omniscient expert.
Yeah, sorry...I was thinking NY City for some reason. There are moose in the upper part of the state.
Maybe you should follow your own advice, pal. I was previewing my response while you posted #55. After re-reading this thread, you really come across as someone who doesn't know what they're talking about.
BTW - wtf is Ho boy?
I’m happy to report that I only have to deal with coyotes and no moose. ;) But it is scary to have coyotes standing across the road, watching us.
Will I learned a lot tonight. But the biggest thing I learned was G8 is a young lady.
George that study is a great one but it is even worst now. That was 2002.
