"..called lead author, Rep. Mayhall, and asked if this was serious legislation or tongue-in-cheek to make a point. He kindly took a moment to answer my question while the legislature was in session. He said that while, regrettably, he doesnt believe his bill will pass, this is serious. He wrote it, he said, because of the urgency of the obesity crisis and need for government action. He hopes it will call attention to the serious problem of obesity and what it is costing the Medicare system.
So, yes, this is for real and these elected officials actually believe this stuff."
And what about people with only one leg or arm? They don’t need as much food do they? Let’s ban everyone but those with perfect bodies from eating out.
Relax, it’s just another bill intended to give people from Alabama something to laugh at.
Too many people in this country have not been educated in the most basic ideas about liberty and the proper role of government.
So they see a law like this and say, “Hey, well maybe it’s a good idea. Too many people are overweight eating all that stuff. And it will lower my taxes and insurance premiums to not have to help pay for their health problems. It’s for their own good anyway.”
The principles of liberty need to be taught in grade school and high school and college, and not as one opinion among others.
Excellent idea. Let us hope it passes. I’ve just returned from a grocery store where a family of five successfully blocked every isle it visited, and it visited every isle. Prohibit them from shopping at supermarkets, while we’re at it! Enough fat is enough!
“So when are they gonna stop giving food stamps to fat people?”
I pick you for my team.
Then the Mississippi Legislature needs to stop shouting. If they want to shout at fat dudes, let them adjourn and hang out at Buford's House of Lard 'n Waffles.
I agree.
Yes, they really introduced it, but it has about as much chance of passing in Mississippi as gay marriage does. They know this, they’re grandstanding. The casinos, with their popular buffets, would oppose it, for starters.
That’s another great suggestion. Let’s see how far diversity really goes. You know, about accepting others and embracing their differences, and all that stuff. (But, no, I’m sorry, we don’t serve your kind here.)
In fact, any time I go to a mall, I can count on repeatedly being trapped behind 2-3 extremely obese black women waddling at 0.00001 mph. There's not much one can do, because if they don't care about themselves, they obviously could care less about you.
In Mississippi obesity has traditionally been as mark of wealth.
Well I agree on the truth setting people free, but the present promoters of PC culture don’t consult me.
What’s wrong with a little anti-diversity, known as being an American! Who wants to pollute themselves with multi-cultural crap anyways?
I’d like to see a ban on politicians voting ——— for anything.
My husband wants to know if this is a joke. Huckabee signed a law making it illegal to smoke in your own car, but this is even worse.
