Something has been bothering me all week and I'm hoping someone here can make me understand. Since 2001, we've been calling the Democrats a party of surrender, anti-war, anti-troops, etc. McCain has his faults. There's no question about it. But why are people like Ann Coulter, Tammy Bruce, Michelle Malkin and many here ready to hand over control of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the future of the War on Terror, and the care of our troops to Hillary Clinton? That's what will happen if people decide to either stay home or vote for Hillary in some kind of misguided moral protest. Don't our troops deserve better than that? It's throwing them to the wolves.
Well, I can only speak for myself, of course, but voting for someone who’s only marginally better than a Democrat is a bit like trying to bail water out of the Titanic.
Perhaps some folks that actually support the Republican platform. Just a thought.
If McCain is a conservative, what exactly does he want to conserve? I'm curious. He wants to radically transform this country into something else, and that something else is something that Ted "Mr Immigration Reform" Kennedy totally agrees with. And I'm supposed to vote for that?
Some specific names of people who both support the platform 100% of the way through, and are well known and well-liked by the national public enough to justify them giving the prime time pitches?
Heck, by that criteria, even Fred Thompson couldn’t get a spot. He is after all not in favor of the HLA, even if he is anti-abortion.
If I were to vote for a liberal, it might as well be a Democrat.
Before shouting cries of "Heretic!" and calling for my banishment, please take a moment to read the logic behind that.
First, on the issues which matter to me, Abortion, the Border, Guns, Marriage, National Defense (as opposed to 'world policeman'), trade, the economy, taxes, none of the candidates have a decent track record.
If I could vote for none of the above and make everyone go back and pick a different roster, I would.
Second, I am of the firm opinion that they will really make a (liberal) mess of things.
Third, I would just as soon have that liberal mess blamed on a Democrat, maybe it will help the Republican Party consolidate its feces.
Fourth, the Republicans in Congress are far more likely to resist Democrat attempts to impose the liberal agenda from the office of POTUS than they are to resist Republican attempts to impose the liberal agenda from the White House. The Democratic liberals in Congress surely will not resist the imposition of that agenda, even though they will argue to take it a couple steps farther than they might ordinarily, in the interest of 'bipartizanship' or some such.
Sometimes, gridlock is a good thing, and it will be all that can save this country should one of the above mentioned 5 candidates be sworn in as president.
Now, have a nice day, I'm back to picking out rifles and packing them in cosmoline...
I didn’t read every reply to this, but I think I can answer this one for myself - it’s all about McAmnesty.
Less than a year after the last version of the bill was shelved, here goes the co-author of the bill getting the GOP nomination. His and Kennedy’s amnesty bill is the biggest reason of all that the GOP lost Congress narrowly. It’s a wedge issue that rips across ideology and transcends racial and economic barriers. It makes perfect sense for a democrat to be for amnesty - millions of votes for their party for a hundred years. But the GOP, RINOs want it for big business/cheap labor at the expense of their existing political base - it’s suicidal.
McCain will too.
Please stick around, we need your vote when congress/senate becomes conservative.
“Our troops have survived much worse. The American military troop is the toughest soldier/sailor/marine on the planet.”
Obviously you have no idea how it was to be in the military under Clinton I. Why do you think our military was in such poor shape after Clinton? Why do you think they did not have the proper equipment? Why do you think our military hospitals were in such disarray? ClintonI practically dismantled our military. Post 9/11 we can’t afford to lose the progress that has been made in our military under Bush.
You all can hold tight to your standards if push comes to shove. This is an issue I will not ignore. The toughest soldier cannot do any good when not given the appropriate equipment or treatment. I shudder to think what will become of our military under a ClintonII.
The Republican party has benefited from the conservative wing of the party for many elections.
Then we watch as our hopes and wants are ignored.
I’m starting to feel like a black Democrat. The Dems are seen always around election time wooing blacks then after the election they are not to be found though blacks voted for the dems in rediculous numbers.
We conservatives stand for :
Closed borders
No amnesty
No govt. financing for abortions.
NO abortions
America first
free speech (even during time of elections Mr. McCain)
Gun rights.
Yet This administration seems not the least interested in these core principles conservatives that put this president where he is, believe in.
Mr. McCain is not a conservative and isn’t even really a Republican. McCain is a RINO.
If the Republican party is not interested in being conservative then conservatives will go play ball somewhere else. Maybe a new party.
Just because the “leadership” of the party wish to foist this RINO on us doesn’t mean we’ll act like lemming and vote for the ass.
Let Hillary or Obamma win and maybe it will force the Republican party to appreciate the conservatives that put them in office, maybe not. Their move but I won’t amn many other conservatives WILL NOT VOTE for McLAme.
McCain has betrayed the Republican Party over and over again. He has no interest in the Conversative agenda. Better to have four years of a liberal disaster than a RINO who will undermine the gains we have made and pretend he is a Republican. I wll vote for Hillary before I vote for McCain.
I never said that.
Republicans will see huge losses in both the senate and house.
I disagree with your contention that conservatives staying home or even voting for Hillary would be misguided. The days of the two party system are gone. We are now entering an era of the Balkanization of the American political landscape. There will be four parties, perhaps more. The Republican party will represent those of center-right, the Democrat party will represent those of the center left, a new conservative party will represent those of the right/far right, and there will be a party to represent the socialist, greenie, elitists on the left/far left. There may be other parties as well. In the future, there will be temporary coalitions of convenience put together by these various parties so to win elections, something akin to the European parliamentary model. A sad situation for sure...
McCain will push policies harmful to our country - global warming, campaign control, gun control, etc. - and republicans in congress will back the president - McCain - as will democrats because these policies will be liberal ones.
We will see both parties working hand-in-hand to destroy the republic. McCain would see no meaningful opposition to his nutty ideas except at the grassroots, which he will ignore.
Congressional republicans simply don’t have the guts to oppose bad ideas from a republican president.
McCain needs to be shown the door in the primary.
Due to his age, temperment and his past horrible experience as a POW, McCain would not be effective as a President.
Sad to say, I'm leaning that way as well. I really worry that McCain is McInsane. I don't want his finger on the button, and I don't want his policies trumpeted as Republican. Hillary will be so awful I can't vote for her. She may be running to the right of Obama, but she doesn't mean it. Obama is a silver-tongued unknown. But, he seems smart enough to learn as he goes along. If he doesn't, the country will throw him out in 4 years.
Giving the troops over to an unstable commander is an operational security risk.
