WASHINGTON (Map, News) - Sen. John McCain, riding a wave of primary victories and favorable polls, is seen by many Illinois Republican insiders as the front-runner in the state's presidential primary.
...
Romney's Illinois highlight was a presidential straw poll at the state fair last August, when about 1,000 people cast votes and he won with 40 percent - twice as much as the second-place finisher, Fred Thompson, who now backs McCain.

I haven't seen anything else on Fred endorsing anyone, but then I noticed the highlighted statement above towards the end of the article... anyone else heard this?

At this point, unless something happened that I didn’t hear about, it’s probably speculation/slander/MSM stupidity.

I believe that is poetic license at work. Fred announcing any support for any that are left would be news, ESPECIALLY if it was McVain.

I hope Fred endorses none of these losers.

Looks like we Fredheads, and I was one of them, got roped-a-doped by Thompson and The Huckster. I’m glad I did not cast an early vote for Thompson here in Tn. I will vote for Romney tommorrow.

Thompson and The Huckster are nothing but Stalking Horses for McCain.

lolol...
As Ann wrote in her book, you can tell who the MSM want and who they fear by who they support.
Tammy Bruce said “voting for McCain is like rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic, he is hillary without a dress, vote Mitt, lol”
It is too bad it took Fred and Rudy folding to shake up the real conservatives.

I’d say it’s a deliberate lie to manipulate the vote, since it can’t be corrected by tommorow now that it’s out there.

it is hardly a secret that Fred is a huge McCain fan. They authored CFR together and were close allies in Senate. In SC, Fred did not attack front-runner McCain in anyway, instead of attacking Huckabee.

If Thompson was a stalking horse for McCain, why did he enter the race after McCain did, and why did he not endorse him immediately.

I don’t think Fred likes any of these guys but if he endorsed it might be Romney since they see to be more friendly to each other than FDT was with McCain. They have had a falling out to some extent since 2000.

Personally I hope he does not give any of these Ass Clowns the time of day.

Fred has been very tight lipped about who he’d support, which has surprised me somewhat since he served in the Senate with McCain. All of the other Senators are backing their buddy.

Shake up the real conservatives?

Try shake down...

Those of us not blinded by Mitt’s glory are retiring for four years.

Fortunately it won’t matter on wit none of these guys save McCain can win the General and he is a long shot that would be a win win for the Dems.

All this so that “Mr. American” could make his bid followed by his smitten and enamored fans....

This is the press provoking Fred into doing something.

If he says nothing about the comment, then it’s taken for granted that there’s factual basis for the comment.

If he comes out against McCain, then he’s pasted with the ‘morons against McCain or Romney’ label.

“Thompson and The Huckster are nothing but Stalking Horses for McCain.”

The MittWits continue to spew this tripe when any logical person that understands politics can see they are off 180 deg.

If anything now Huck is bleeding votes FROM McCrazy!

Use your brain. What group of voters make up the vast majority of Huck’s voters?

What group of voters make up the vast majority of voters that are the most opposed to Romney?

Think hard now, it was widely reported early on in the race.

It should be an easy one to figure out if you think.
