Laura Ingraham: Romney is "the Conservative's Conservative" [Huh?!]
The Swamp ^ | 02/07/08 | Mark Silva

Posted on 02/07/2008 1:37:38 PM PST by BrerRabbit

"I think the question," she [Ingraham] said to cheers, "is what have you been doing for conservatism lately? Mitt Romney is the conservative’s conservative," she said, suggesting that of all the people who got to introduce candidates at this forum she was the one introducing the conservative.

I hate to sound too purist, but good grief, a tax and spend, gun controlling, pro-abortion, pro-illegals former governor of Massachusetts is "the conservative's conservative?"

I've heard of revisionism, and we could expect such from Romney, but now pundits like Ingraham? This is also very troubling for the future. Part (not all, but part) of the reason we got into this mess of "McCain or bust" is that the conservative Republican pundits didn't perform their gatekeep function on this bad field early enough to encourage the entrance of better candidates. Thus Ingraham's question above to the CPAC crowd is an ironic one. (Not to pick on her, as Rush was one of the worst, waiting until the day before Super Tuesday to make an endorsement, and he had to go with Romney too.)

Now we're going to call a candidate who was actually little better than McCain "the conservative's conservative?" After this is all over, the GOP might go the way of the Canadian conservatives. Canadian politics: left vs. far left. Unless there's a real sea change, that seems where we're headed.

well I have to give credit where it’s due. Romney does know how to give a good speech. He’s like the Republican Obama

Ingraham used to have a great radio show filled with good humor and intelligence. Now it’s nothing but her angrily screeching at everyone — even callers who agree with her. I don’t know how anyone can handle that first thing in the morning.

left vs. far left

That is pretty much the way of politics in the western world nowadays. We were headed that way ourselves, before the Reagan Revolution and the Contract With America delayed it, but delay may have been all it was.

It's certainly ironic how we defended Western Europe against communism, only to see that region become more socialist, as we are also doing. The irony becomes greater when one considers that the former East Bloc has gone to more conservative politics, flat taxes etc.

That thing in your rear view mirror is the shark you just jumped over, Laura.

The Romnoid is no more conservative than the Obamanation. He’s just a far better liar, who ran as a republican.

To be fair, Rush made his endorsement obvious, but not stated, LONG ago.

You’re dead on about Romney. He’s the RINO’s RINO. The only plus is he’s not a Washington RINO.

he’s out of the race, so maybe this nonstop discussion of whether or not he was TRULY conservative can end and we can move on to the other FAUX conservative with whom we are left. i was a fredhead who was sad to see Romney bow out today purely because of who is left standing.

Romney was the best of a very sorry lot.

He is NOT a “conservative’s conservative”.

He’s also NOT in the race any longer. So...what’s the point.

Romney got my vote not because he was conservative, but his name came up when I hit the conservative default setting.

Rush quite frankly is spinning and slipping and sliding at this point. He was attacking Bill Bennett a bit today because Bennett dared to tell Rush to calm down. Rush started saying that Bennett flirted with some moderate positions once - in 1987!

It seems to me we conservatives have savaged each front runner from our own party and there comes a time when it needs to stop. I don't know how Romney gets to be the latest (failed) conservative savior he was no more solid conservative than McCain, Huckabee, etc.

“Mitt Romney is the conservative’s conservative,” she said.

Good heavens, has it come to that?”

You mean that during our great struggles, the Reagan years, the abortion wars, The Gingrich 1994 revolution, all of the challenges of the Clinton years and Al Gore in 2000, and 2004, that you don’t recall all of us conservatives being led and encouraged by the bloody struggles of our right wing hero?

I think Romney is conservative. Massachusetts is not.

Ya gotta distinguish between the two.

Like Arkansas is conservative, Clinton was not. But if you looked at Bill’s record in Arkansas, you’d probably find some conservative things he did in order to get himself elected. It doesn’t mean he’s a conservative, though.

” Laura Ingraham: Romney is “the Conservative’s Conservative” “

Seems like all of these radio personalities are drinking from the same kool-aid pitcher. Strange, very strange.

It was reported that more female Republicans fell (voted)for Romney than men. You can take it from there.
