"John McCain was very active and supportive during my confirmation hearings to be the U.S. Ambassador to the UN. His belief in me at that time was a testament to his courage to fight the liberals in the Senate and vigorously advance American interests at the UN.
"I whole-heartedly endorse John McCain for President because when he takes office in January 2009 he will be prepared immediately to lead us. John will not need on the job training.
"American conservatives will have a President they can be proud of in John McCain."

No one held a gun to the heads of the presidential candidates of either party to run in the first place. As long as they have the means, the know-how and the blind ambition, anyone in this country can throw his name in the hat.....Perot and Keyes come to mind. So, nobody "gave" us the candidates to begin with.
Bolton is endorsing McCain because that's a part of politics practiced by big names of either party since George Washington.
Glumly experiencing what to us appears like our idols toppling with feet of clay is tough for us, but is de rigueur in the world of politics which is a business like anything else.
Probably a slightly dissimilar analogy is 5 executives being passed over in favor on a sixth becoming CEO of a huge corporation. The five deal with it even though they may be bitter. However, they work with the new CEO, get along with him, carry out his policies and support him for the good of the company. Also, endorsing their new boss may benefit them personally in the future, like a new position in the company or better income in the future.....and there's nothing wrong with this under our capitalist system.
This what politicians do......and will always do, whether they are elected folks or just well-known names in the political maelstrom like Bolton, Fred, George Allen, Schwartzkopf and other McCain endorsers. Huck will endorse, also. This does not make them "traitors" nor should their endorsements "shock" people. They are still good people and loyal to their party.
We as citizens should not become disillusioned with our leaders or politics in general because of the shifting sands we observe. The seductive siren songs to throw away one's precious right to vote or stay home should be resisted with all the will power one can summon. Political maneuvering and strange bedfellows are all part of the history and tradition of a representative democracy.
That we must always be alert and informed goes without saying. However, citizens becoming disenchanted and "dropping out" because of anger at "politics" is just what the enemies of any REPUBLIC want. Nature abhors a vacuum and history teaches us that the Left and/or dictators will always spring up to fill that vacuum when good citizens don't care any more and distrust or hate all politicians.

Careful. Don’t blaspheme.
Holy Moly! Make me want to snatch out my own hair. I don’t know how much more I can take in this fubar election.
And I can exercise my power by refusing to vote for a liberal. I'll gladly, and with clear conscience, vote third party before I vote for McCain.
I refuse to reinforce the negative behavior of liberal Republicans by cooperating with their leftward drift. No more.
If McCain chooses Bolton for VP, I’ll vote for them.
I did not support McCain and was considering writing in Bolton’s name. I have to reconsider now.
Bolton for McCains VP.
One hundred million people were murdered to advance the left in the last century.
The New York Times' own Walter Duranty won a Pulitzer denying Stalin had starved ten million Ukranians to death.
The left has a job to do, to see that power is consolidated
Eggs will be broken.
Bon appetit
another good post, Phil!
You’ll take it and you’ll like it, fofl!
I've been overrun more gray hair since joining FR and learning the truth about what's going on in our country as opposed to the lsm. Praise be for Miss Clairol.
Better gray hairs than head in sand....like the position of so many even here in FR.
Good graphic Phil
Amen sister FReeper, amen.
Bolton is a private citizen and can endorse a check from McCain if he gets one.
You don't mess around with John?
True. My point was that if there's any validity to the claims that McCain still is at least somewhat conservative, his batting average in clinch situations should be better than zero. If someone would be so kind as to post some examples of clinch situations where he was on our side, then it would be possible to argue the relative importance of those situations versus those where he was against us. But if his six-year clinch percentage really is 0.00 then there's not even any basis for argument: he simply is not conservative anymore.
I was by no means trying to imply that one conservative action in a clinch situation would make someone conservative--merely to imply that it's a useful pre-screening test. If I'm trying to decide whether a particular fruit is a pumpkin, I might first look at the color. If it's orange, it may or may not be a pumpkin. If, however, the it's purple it clearly isn't.
And I wholeheartedly agree with you, hence my proffering Senator Sessions who has indeed shown, not only through his record, time and again that he is a conservative, but he stands against the rats and liberals, and even liberals who call themselves republicans, to the point of even labeling through his ridicule as "masters of the universe." McCain has NEVER done any such thing.
