Ragged Clinton campaign braces for more poll misery Feb 12 08:19 AM US/Eastern Hillary Clinton's White House campaign faced the prospect of three new hammer blows on Tuesday, with Democratic rival Barack Obama tipped to sweep a trio of Washington-area nominating contests.

Clinton insisted her historic quest was in good shape, despite a campaign staff shakeup and opinion polls that suggest she will tumble to defeat in the US capital, Maryland and Virginia after five Obama wins at the weekend.

"I think things have gone well. I think this is always going to be a competitive race because there's so much at stake," the former first lady said in an interview with ABC's Washington affiliate on Monday.

"I've been around a long time, so, you know, sometimes you're up, sometimes you're down. I've been through all of that. But I feel really good about where we are."

Clinton campaign operatives signalled they were now pinning their hopes on Ohio and Texas, big states which vote on March 4, to close an anticipated gap with the surging Obama.

Despite Clinton emerging from last week's 22-state Super Tuesday Democratic showdown neck-and-neck with the Illinois senator, he picked up weekend wins in Louisiana, Nebraska, Maine, Washington state, and the US Virgin Islands.

In so doing, Obama nudged ahead in the race for delegates portioned out by each state, who will formally pick the party nominee at the Democratic convention in August.

Obama now leads Clinton 1,144 to 1,138 in the running delegate count, according to website RealClearPolitics.com. A total of 2,025 delegates are needed for the nomination.

Everyone seems to assume that Clinton will win OH and TX handily.

Why is that?

Boy, this really is emblematic about how much people dislike Mrs. Clinton...and Mr. Clinton.

Imagine, a guy who hasn’t done anything, is only a couple of years out of a state legislature, and talks about nothing but “change,” and he’s wiping the floor with her.

It’ll be somewhat interesting to see what Sen. Clinton has to say tonight after she loses all three primaries.

Even FoxNews’s Dem commentator, Bob Becktol, didn’t sound too optimistic that Clinton will win. He was saying, in the state primaries through early March, that Obama could end up with a decisive lead that would be unsurmountable.

If that happened, Clinton’s only hope/salvation would be by the Superdelegates.

I’ll bet she has FBI files on most of the super delegates.

Game.

Set.

Match.

Agree with your points especially when you realize that “change” is a euphemism for a picture of the clintons surrounded by a red circle with a red line drawn through it.

But that won't happen. If Obama has a delegate lead the Super delegates will go to him...even if it's close...to do otherwise would doom the party. I'm hating our nomination season but loving theirs!

IF it comes down to the Super Delegates, there will be open revolt in the Democrat Party. Donna Brazile has said she will leave the party- and there are rumblings of all HEdoubleLL breaking loose. They have their own mess- but at least there’s enthusiasm for their candidates...unlike our side.

A question I've been mulling over since hearing about her fire wall. Too much confidence = hanky panky.

Was sacking the Latina for a Black campaign manager the right move for Hillary when she is counting on the Latin vote in Texas, and her campaign rides on the result?

I’ll bet she has FBI files on most of the super delegates.

The FBI files aren't weapons. They are insurance in case people try to destroy her.

If she threatens to ruin superdelegates if they do not vote for her, those same people have enough dirt on her to sink her too.

The files are mutual assured destruction.

I guess its the Hispanic vote, but since Hillary just fired her Hispanic campaign manager in favor of a black one, she may have another thing coming. Austin is one of the biggest liberal bastions in Texas, chocked full of college students probably ready to vote for Obama.

In Texas, there are loads of Hispanics, who still distrust African-Americans. In Ohio, there are large numbers of blue collar workers, who are thought to be more fond of Hillary's kind of politics, and are more turned off by the Obama upper-income voter.

I'm not saying that I agree, especially on Ohio, but that's the logic. We'll see.

Let’s lower expectations.

I won’t be happy ‘til she’s out of the race.

Unfortunately for us all he's probably going to wipe the floor with McCain as well. Socialism, here we come. Oh well, at least I won't have to bother working for a living any more. Pay my mortgage? Why should I, I should be bailed out? Pay for insurance? Why should I, health care is a right. Pay for heat, electricity, food? Hell no, these are basic rights!

Hey this socialism thing aint so bad, now that the Governemernt will be paying all my bills, whover that Government guy is, he's aweful generous and nice.

She will not win Ohio.
She will win Texas.

Hispanics will put her over.

If true, that will once again keep the Democrat nomination in Limbo, since Clinton's party line is currently that even if she loses VA, MD, DC, WI and HI she will lock down the nomination by winning OH and TX.

If she splits OH and TX, then it's likely a floor fight.
