***Look what happened to Romney***

Romney was from Massachutsets ( or however you spell it, Taxitussets, Masa two s#!ts.) that is enough to loose this vote. Religion had nothing to do with it.

livius ~ But Islam appears to be all the rage out there in many black neighborhoods.

buccaneer81 ~ That's because of the "hate whitey" philosophy preached by the Muzzies.

That and the fact that they conveniently neglect to mention that the reason the #1 slave traders -Saudi muslims- didn't give all of Araby a race problem today is that they preferred their slaves castrated...

That’s all very true.

Another interesting thing is that slavery had virtually died out in Europe until it revived through contacts with Islamic slave trading practices (mostly in the course of attempts to ransom and retrieve the thousands of Europeans who had been captured by the Muslims and sold into slavery).

True, he was a loser because of his positions on the issues.

Yes, that’s a good point. That, of course, and the fact that they would have killed any of their women who had dared to have any contact with their African slaves. But even castration wasn’t a sure protection.

I remember seeing something at the Alhambra in Spain that looked like a birdbath or a garden fountain (which was probably its original purpose). The Muslim ruler who lived there at the time was regularly supplied with Christian captives from Northern Spain, and he suspected one of them, a very beautiful woman, of carrying on with one of his eunuchs (!). His solution was to fill the fountain with boiling lead and push her face into it.

Yes. There may have been other sources for the revival of slavery in the Renaissance, but I would agree that seeing the Muslim slave trade was the major source.

The motto of the Countercultural Revolution was “Don’t trust anyone over thirty.” Not much history was taught in American schools even before the 60s, but the Age of Woodstock pretty much did away with any respect for tradition or interest in history at all. Western civilization and Christianity were scorned. So Christianity got blamed for slavery, when in fact it was the only religion in history that repeatedly did away with slavery.

>>A number of them are probably not newcomers, but native-born black converts. And they’re even crazier - how any black person could be a Muslim, considering that Islam is an Arab superiority cult<<

I did a vanity once about a plumber I met who was black and raised Baptist just a few miles from where I grew up and the attitudes he had as a converted Muslim.

It blew my mind

Nice historical synopsis.

Remember the remark Muhammad Ali made when he returned from the Congo after his "rumble in the jungle" with George Foreman?

Some reporter asked him what he thought of Africa and his first words were "Thank God my great-granddaddy got on that slave ship. Thank God I was born in America."

Some Europeans jumped at what they found as a nice source of profit. But the Pope argued against it and forbade it in South America, and English Protestants finished that job.

That's a lovely story, but utter garbage.

Slavery wasn't outlawed in Brazil until 1888, and last time I checked Brazil was and is a Catholic country.

In the United States, there were people who used Christianity to argue against slavery, and there were people who used Christianity to argue in favor of slavery.

My thoughts exactly.

America, for the most part is asleep....she’s in for a very rude awakening. I don’t think those at the top are asleep however, they have their own agenda...insatiable greed and need for power..with never a thought about the good of our nation and her future.

The “Nero's” fiddle while “Rome” burns...

This is a useful list. It would be good if someone could identify the worst nut-cases among them—and a list of their opponents, in case anyone wants to help them out.

Wow. (Look out) I expect the FReeper "bigot patrol" to be bouncin' all over your posts anytime now. They were zingin' anybody who criticized Romney's Mormonism. I'd say the above makes you eligible to get hit up by then (unless, of course, they're just two-faced, double-standard, double-minded inconsistent hypocrites, that is).

So this is a case of a specific post and a fertile thread for specific posts like this which will make the silence of the "bigot patrol" quite loud.
