Universal health care is not a libertarian idea, unless you are Ron Paul.

MR. PAUL: The president ran on a program of a humble foreign policy, no nation-building, and no policing of the world. And he changed his tune, and now we are fighting a war, and our foreign operations around the world to maintain our empire is now approaching $1 trillion a year.

MR. BLITZER: Thank you.

MR. PAUL: That’s where the money’s going, and that’s where it has to be cut so we can take care of education and medical cares that are needed here in this country. (Applause.)

I’m leaving the Republican party after my state’s primary. I haven’t decided whether to go Independent or Libertarian. I want the government to stay the hell out of my business and pocketbook, so maybe I’m leaning more toward Libertarian.

At this point, I’ve decided to vote for Ron Paul in the primary. I will never vote for John McCain.

“We have seen the party of entrepreneurship, small government, and personal freedom become the party of fear, war, and police power.”

Its distressing to witness conservatives give praise to the practice of torture by US servicemen and the removal of habeus corpus rights for US citizens. The Bush bots will one day rue that mindset. Till then, they’ll just oooh and aah on the daily dose threads.

His economic positions seem to favor large corporations, not free markets

What exactly does this Einstein believe constitutes free markets?

“The Arizona senator spoke during an appearance at a central Iowa farm where he devoted much of the conversation with a few dozen supporters to foreign relations and immigration.”

Obama is drawing crowds of 20,000 plus. The war is popular here at FR. Out in the world nearly 7 of 10 Americans oppose it.

Democrats are showing up to vote 3-1 over Republicans.

iacta alea est
The die is cast.

The neoconservatives will be repudiated this election.
They learned nothing from the elections of 2006....

They can keep the Republican Party.
They won't be able to do much with it though.

I predict that the Republican Party will fare better than Free Republic. I predict that this site will end up as a backwater sanctuary for a bunch of drug-addled sour-pusses bitching and moaning that we’re all doomed because we don’t accept Ron Paul as our Lord and Savior.

“He believes the 2nd amendment guarantees the individual the right to own firearms”

The author might want to re-think this one. Obama thinks that individuals do have a right to own firearms; but that governments can also impose basically any restrictions on the right that they decide is fitting, up to and including outright bans on gun ownership.

With double-speak like that it kinda makes you wonder if the Obamanation understands the meaning of basic words.

You forgot that Obama is a Constitutional scholar and actually taught Constitutional law.

I doubt McCain would know the difference between the Constitution and Charmin. The Constitution would only be an obstacle to overcome.

Why Obama seems preferable right now:
He is open to libertarian ideas
He is open to decriminalizing marijuana
He believes the 2nd amendment guarantees the individual the right to own firearms
_____________________________________________________

Yeah, which libertarian ideas? I could opt to give states much more authority in setting drug policy IF we can dismantle the federal welfare state. BUT as long as people are pushing “universal healthcare” and tax-payer funded medicare, medicaid, and a host of other entitlements that tend to subsidize the least productive members of society, then then I’m not subsidizing a bunch of losers who want to “light up” every single day. We’ve already got enough alcoholics to rehabilitate. Why do we wanna drastically increase the number of marijuana users to rehab too (at the tax-payers expense, of course)?

We have seen the party of entrepreneurship, small government, and personal freedom become the party of fear, war, and police power. After the party leaders mocked, sneered, and cackled at those of us who believe in a limited constitutional republic, they now ask us to hold our nose and support John McCain.

You will likely get flambe’ed over this but I dare anyone to refute the part that I copied & pasted above.

The author lost me with the Obama BS. Obama is an empty suit.

But he is right about the WoSDs. Legal psychiatric drugs are more dangerous and doing more damage than street drugs. I can't see pouring more billions of dollars into a failed policy.

Let’s dump the war on poverty first. It has been going on even longer and to less effect.

Why John McCain scares the hell out of me: * He said we will stay in Iraq a 100 years if necessary * He is planning more wars * He wants to step up police powers * His economic positions seem to favor large corporations, not free markets * He has a bad temper * He doesn’t offer anything new

Hey that is just to get the GOP nod. Now he tacks left for the general.

Anyone who does not understand that we are at war against Islamic fundamentalism and that our actions are not responsible for their hatred of us is not qualified to be President. When it comes to the Islamicist threat, there is no practical difference between “non-interventionism” and isolationism. Call it whatever you want: to refuse to fight against an enemy whose adherents preach hatred of, death to, and revenge against our country is beyond foolish - it is suicidal.
