Jack Kemp's Message to Conservatives: Lay Off McCain (Transcript of interview on H&C)
Fox News ^ | Feb. 18, 2007 | Hannity, Colmes, Kemp

Posted on 02/18/2008 12:32:06 PM PST by FocusNexus

This is a rush transcript from "Hannity & Colmes," February 15, 2008.

ALAN COLMES, CO-HOST: ...Former vice presidential nominee and McCain supporter, Jack Kemp, penned an open letter to these critics. And he wrote. quote, "you gave them your best shots and he took it like a man. Now as he head toward the nomination, I urge you to continue to be critical but to do so in measured ways that will not damage his ability to win in November." Joining us now to explain further, Jack Kemp, Secretary Kemp, welcome back to "Hannity & Colmes."

COLMES: ... Are the conservatives who are attacking John McCain or differing with him, depending upon which person you're listing to, what the tone is, hurting the Republican party?

KEMP: No. I, you know, eventually, you want them to be on board a McCain campaign, I think the Bible says very clearly who "he who wrestles with us strengthens us." And I think John has been strengthened by going through this. I hope that as you pointed out, in quoting my letter, that the criticisms are measured here as he comes closer to the nomination so that when he does run against Barack or Hillary, he's not weakened to the point where we end up electing somebody who would wave a white flag to Al Qaeda or end up putting Supreme Court justices on the Supreme Court who are to the left of where the American people are.

It’s still time to get a candidate who can win, and who will be there alive at inauguration day. The risk with McCain is too great. He should make his decision now to step aside so that we can save America from destruction at the hands of its enemies.

Then repeat after me...”Hillary is our next President, Hillery is our next President, Hillery is our next President........I guess that is what you all want and don’t care what happens. This is not England and there is no viable third party electable system. You drop McC and you get Hillary or the other one. Case closed.

So I suppose McCain’s 96% pro life rating from NARAL

Care to defend McCain's 65% conservative rating in 2006?

The unborn are most displeased.

Yet another refugee rolls off the DUng heap and tries to co-opt liberal talking points.

Vote for McCain, because it's for the children!

It's for the penguins too!

Hey Jack, you have your vote and you can do with it what you wish.

I have an equal vote to yours, but don't be so pompous trying to tell me what to do with my vote. You had your turn at bat and struck out in an embarassing babbling display during the VP debates.

Please, just fade away!

The funy thing is, as a conservative, you are probably anti-spend (so is McCain), anti-abortion (so is McCain), and pro-surge in Iraq (McCain was calling for that well before Bush did) and agree more with him on most issues than with Obama... but your “principles” will help you help America’s most liberal senator take the presidency. Nice.

What do you want them to do, line up behind Hussein or Hillary instead?

Those ARE the only choices.

I'd rather line up behind two KNOWN Marxists than let a betrayer and a Conservative wolf in Liberal Sheep's clothing stand behind me.

Better to see and know the true enemy in front of you than share a trench with someone with a history of stabbing fellows in the back and fighting for the enemy on our side of the battlefield.

McCain will NEVER get my vote.

If the country goes to hell under a Marxist - better we know who is responsible for the misery than to have the same hell visited by someone waving our flag and our entire ideology gets the blame.

I'm done holding my nose for the GOP.

They have repeatedly demonstrated their contempt for Conservatism. Kemp's disgusting letter being just another case-in-point.

I'm done with them. My votes go to those who deserve my vote, regardless of party - and no longer to parties that pay lip service to what I believe in. if that means Hildabeast or Obamination - so be it. We could not have had a Reagan without a Carter. If we get McCain now, Conservatism will be officially dead and buried for generations by his hand and that of the Rockerfeller Elites running the GOP.

And lest you continue to try and blame Conservatives for the loss this November, you need to look no farther than your own tory loyalism to a party that has become the definition of 'Compassionate Liberalism with a mention of morality for flavor."

Buncha' really old guys.

Several years back right after a funeral I was walking maybe 50 yards behind my father and my one of my aunt's husbands (Uncle Mutt we called him).

These guys were top knotch warrior in WWII. My dad had been General LeMay's flying crew chief, and my uncle was in the Infantry that met and then threw back the Germans in the Battle of the Bulge.

But time had gotten to them, and although I knew both of them would go through it all over again, it was now somebody else's job to do that part.

Same with McCain. He did his part. Now it's time for another.

Jack Kemp was one of the WORST vice-presidential candidates of all time.

He was going up against Al Gore and let Al Gore tell him that he was OK, but that all of his friends were jerks, and Jack didn't say anthing in return.

He is unable to present his ideas clearly and concisely in an inspiring way.

He should be stuck away in a back room providing detailed economic analysis for candidates who are willing to fight toe-to-toe for what they believe in.

And whose fault that those are the only choices, as you say? If the GOP was not bound & determined to shove us into one-world government, its leaders would seek, find and support conservative candidates. What help did they give Hunter or Thompson? McInsane was ‘down and out’ , then suddenly he received an infusion of money and not all from Soros. The media suddenly began promoting him as if he was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Jack Kemp ma;y have been conservative many years ago but he just turned into a party whore like the rest of our “leaders”. They are talking down to us as if we were grade school kids. They can go to he$$.
