Jack Kemp's Message to Conservatives: Lay Off McCain (Transcript of interview on H&C)
Fox News ^ | Feb. 18, 2007 | Hannity, Colmes, Kemp

Posted on 02/18/2008 12:32:06 PM PST by FocusNexus

This is a rush transcript from "Hannity & Colmes," February 15, 2008.

ALAN COLMES, CO-HOST: ...Former vice presidential nominee and McCain supporter, Jack Kemp, penned an open letter to these critics. And he wrote. quote, "you gave them your best shots and he took it like a man. Now as he head toward the nomination, I urge you to continue to be critical but to do so in measured ways that will not damage his ability to win in November." Joining us now to explain further, Jack Kemp, Secretary Kemp, welcome back to "Hannity & Colmes."

COLMES: ... Are the conservatives who are attacking John McCain or differing with him, depending upon which person you're listing to, what the tone is, hurting the Republican party?

KEMP: No. I, you know, eventually, you want them to be on board a McCain campaign, I think the Bible says very clearly who "he who wrestles with us strengthens us." And I think John has been strengthened by going through this. I hope that as you pointed out, in quoting my letter, that the criticisms are measured here as he comes closer to the nomination so that when he does run against Barack or Hillary, he's not weakened to the point where we end up electing somebody who would wave a white flag to Al Qaeda or end up putting Supreme Court justices on the Supreme Court who are to the left of where the American people are.

Tulane,
It looks hopeless...there’s nothing you can say that will turn some of these so-called conservatives around in here. I’ve tried. It’s the usual bunch. I used to get upset when folks on the other side used to talk about the extreme right. I did not appreciate that characterization of conservative thought or values, but I’m beginning to believe that we do indeed have an extreme right and these guys would rather sit at home and watch a President Obama or (God forbid) President Rodham-Clinton get elected.

I never thought it would come to this, but I’m now hoping that the moderates, whom I loathe just as much as the libs, come out in force for McCain.

God help us!

and the ONLY way to avoid it is to support McCain

Don't vote for McCain and expect a different result. He will be the same who has pushed amensty and assaulted the First Amendment and stuck his finger to the conservatives at every opportunity.

The GOP leadership knew the conservatives would crawl back.

This plays right in to their hands.

If the conservatives don't take a stand now, they may not have a meaningful chance to do so for decades.

Kemp is another “elitist” Republican on McCain’s team who wants amnesty for illegal immigrants to exist throughout the U.S. for cheap labor purposes. This is really all about allowing amnesty for illegal immigrants to happen asap, and I don’t see how this can be stopped with all of the remaining Presidential candidates all for amnesty for illegal immigrants. A truly conservative majority in the next Congress can successfully stop such things from happening, but what are the chances of that really happening? A socialized U.S. is really just around the corner. Pathetic!

I agree. Values are meaningless if you don’t stick to them.

UDAY'S FAVORITE YANK -BIZMAN ON 'HONOR ROLL'
NILES LATHEM Post Correspondent. New York Post. New York, N.Y.: Feb 1, 2005. pg. 020

WASHINGTON - An Iraqi-American businessman under investigation in the U.N. oil-for-food scandal was placed on an honor roll of former regime thugs by Saddam Hussein's demonic son Uday just months before the war, The Post has learned.

(snip)

Sources told The Post that interest in Khafaji has intensified in recent days in the wake of the guilty plea of Virginia-based oil trader Samir Vincent. Vincent admitted in federal court two weeks ago that he lobbied influential American bigwigs, including former GOP vice-presidential nominee Jack Kemp and former President Jimmy Carter, in return for almost $5 million in cash payments and lucrative oil deals from Saddam.

I watched the status quo; Bush 41, McCain, several RNC officials and Faux News cramming McCain down our throats today, and it made me mad.

The audacity of these people manipulating us into accepting the very worst choice the GOP has made in it’s history.

I’m done, stick a fork in me, my money goes to individual Conservatives only this day forward! I’m done calling myself a Republican. Like Reagan said about his former Democrats, “I didn’t leave them, they left me.” Pretty much sums it up for a whole lot of us. They’re about to find out in November just how many of us there really are.

I think we can survive 4 years of Obama. Question is can the republican party survive a John McCain candidacy?

Ironically, the Republicans in Congress seem to be at their best when they are the minority, not the majority.

Their near decade of leadership was woefully irresponsible and wasteful. Now, as the minority, they have managed to thrive as they quell Pelosi and Reid.

California Prop 187, which terminated welfare benefits for illegal aliens, passed by some 60 percent of the popular vote but was later killed by the courts:

Former cabinet secretaries Bill Bennett and Jack Kemp attacked California Governor Wilson for supporting Prop. 187. They argued that immigrants are “natural Republicans” who support low taxes and family values, and that Wilson risks turning the Republican party into a party of protectionism and xenophobia. According to Bennett, “its assimilation, stupid”—meaning that the major problem is not the number or type of immigrant entering the US. Instead, Bennett argues that fears that newcomers will not integrate into American society result from “too many” programs such as bilingual education that, he argues, promotes multiculturalism.

KEMP WAS SADDAM STOOGE; OIL FEDS QUIZ KEMP
NILES LATHEM, Post Correspondent. New York Post. New York, N.Y.: Jan 20, 2005. pg. 001

WASHINGTON - Former Republican vice-presidential candidate and New York Congressman Jack Kemp has been questioned by the FBI in the U.N. oil-for-food scandal, it was revealed last night.

Newsweek magazine reported on its Web site that the ex-Buffalo Bills quarterback faces scrutiny about his dealings with Virginia- based oil trader Samir Vincent, who earlier this week became the first figure to be formally charged with criminal wrongdoing in the $21.3 billion global scandal.

The magazine identified Kemp as the former senior U.S. government official whom the feds said Vincent contacted on behalf of Saddam Hussein in an attempt to weaken and repeal sanctions on Iraq. ...

Vincent, who was charged by the Justice Department with illegally acting as Saddams secret agent in the United States, had monthly meetings with Kemp to discuss U.S.-Iraq relations. ...

Under the deal, Kemp would fly to Iraq to negotiate a settlement in which Baghdad would welcome U.N. weapons inspectors back in return for a phaseout of the sanctions. ...

A press release once issued by Kemp described Vincent as a member of a committee developing his plan to promote economic development in the Mideast.

Just wait till the Dems start showing ads of McCain singing bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran...real Presidential material!

How the American electorate reacts will be a judgment upon us all.

I'm looking forward to it.

I want to know whether we're still a nation of men and women with the resolve to defeat a threat or we've become a nation which crawls away from one.
