This is a rush transcript from "Hannity & Colmes," February 15, 2008.
ALAN COLMES, CO-HOST: ...Former vice presidential nominee and McCain supporter, Jack Kemp, penned an open letter to these critics. And he wrote. quote, "you gave them your best shots and he took it like a man. Now as he head toward the nomination, I urge you to continue to be critical but to do so in measured ways that will not damage his ability to win in November." Joining us now to explain further, Jack Kemp, Secretary Kemp, welcome back to "Hannity & Colmes."
COLMES: ... Are the conservatives who are attacking John McCain or differing with him, depending upon which person you're listing to, what the tone is, hurting the Republican party?
KEMP: No. I, you know, eventually, you want them to be on board a McCain campaign, I think the Bible says very clearly who "he who wrestles with us strengthens us." And I think John has been strengthened by going through this. I hope that as you pointed out, in quoting my letter, that the criticisms are measured here as he comes closer to the nomination so that when he does run against Barack or Hillary, he's not weakened to the point where we end up electing somebody who would wave a white flag to Al Qaeda or end up putting Supreme Court justices on the Supreme Court who are to the left of where the American people are.

Kemp should be talking to McCain, not the conservatives who took the Republicans out of the wilderness.
Kemp showed his inability to lead or even talk about it in 1996 when he and Dole gave us amateur night against Clinton with all his troubles.
Kent is one of the leading proponents of amnesty and illegal immigration. McCain is his ideal candidate.
Saying a vote for insane McCain will help right the Republican party is about the same as giving a druggie more drugs. Not going to help!
The democrats were never able to cause the harm to conservatism that the Republican party has.
“At least if itâs Obama or Hillary, there will be gridlock for 4 years.”
Helloooo! WHAT gridlock? The Democrats already control Congress and after a Dem win they will have a filibuster-proof majority, doing anything and everything they want, with a leftist president pushing through their agenda unconstrained — including stuffing the courts with leftist activist liberals.
This from the man who was out debated by Al Bore? LOL. A long time ago I liked Kemp. After 1996 I changed my mind. Kemp is just another establishment RINO.
Hey Tulane, at least Obama is right up front about being a Democrat. With McCain we get someone who agrees with the Demcrats on censoring this website, agrees with them on immigration, agrees with them on ILLEGAL immigration, agrees with them on China policy, agrees with them on taxes, agrees with them on too many of their gun control schemes, oh, but he’ll hold the line in Iraq. Yeah, that’s okay. Give me Obama because then I’ll get someone I can hate with a clear conscience. I’d feel guilty having to go to an anti-McCain protest.
LOL BTTT
So lets make the party more Liberal so they will like us more and have something they want....candidates like McCain are a start...... s/

Ever hear of the term, “Reagan democrat?”
Hell, if Reagan were running today, you’d call him too liberal. You’d point to the amnesty law he signed, or the abortion rights bill he signed as governor of California, or the federal tax increase he executed. Do you really think Obama would be better? Good lord, I shouldn’t even ask that.
Give me a break and wake up!
Ah but who said I was staying home? Let me remind you not to put words in my mouth. Let me also remind you that McCain is the same as Obama and clinton. Except where Iraq is concerned. McCain has bought into global warming, he is pro amnesty, he is against freedom of speech, and I could go on and on. You toe the party line like a good little trooper, and I will go as my convictions dictate. May I suggest you spew venom elsewhere as you seem incapable of reasoned thought.
The guy who embarrassed the republican party by his
nimwitted performance vs Al Gore in a debate wants to tell me how to behave?
Jack’s just another in a series of old washed up political hacks. His words are as insignificant as most of the “established republicans.”
Good CALL! It’s those darned Conservatives ya gno!
OK, I’ll lay off John McCain, if only you can get the mainstream liberal media to do the same. They will not, when it comes down to the crunch.
I shall not have to point his most abominable and egregious sins, as these will be amply reported in all the major news outlets. In fact, I may even praise McCain in many ways, but it will look just like the “criticisms” that shall be laid upon him by the “nattering nabobs of negativity”. Which means the praise shall appear to be faint.
John, if you believe the MSM now, it is only because they are setting you up. They will turn on you like a starved puma by Labor Day, and will not let up until you give the concession speech.
Ok Pete. We have troops on the ground in Iraq, but you go ahead and help Obama. Hope you sleep well at night, sir. I forgot, was it Obama or McCain who wanted the surge...hmmm...
Also, last time I checked, McCain stated he will try to keep the tax cuts...and Obama wants to triple the minimum wage...But you’re right, they are exactly alike. Which one will support the free choice act...hmmm...which one will appoint pro-abortion judges....which one has a 96% pro life rating from NARAL...you’re right they are exactly the same/sarcasm.
Toodles.
You know — your post made me realize something about the conservative base. It’s not that we are politically unrealistic and unwilling to compromise. It’s that we want our representatives to FIGHT for what we believe in. I had a grandmother that was a southern Democrat since the Great Depression. She switched to Republican after all those years during Bill Clintons term. She switched back when the Republicans didn’t succeed in impeaching him. She was used to a party that fought and won. She basically said that Republicans were wimps.
I agree. Still, it’s truly sad to watch one Republican leader after another fall in line behind McCain. Besides Huckibee and Limbaugh, is there any Republican leader that has had the backbone to object to McCain? Even Huckibee doesn’t so much not like McCain as want the top slot for himself.
Sure is a shame that ole bob and jack lost in 96 them being real conservatives and all.
How far down the barrel do you have to be to get to Jack Kemp?
He played football in the last century.
Sure was.
Given what Clinton did to this country.
