NJ gay group says civil unions are unsatisfactory Home News Tribune Online 02/19/08
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS TRENTON: Gay activists want same-sex marriage rights in New Jersey by year's end.
Steven Goldstein, chairman of gay rights group Garden State Equality, said Tuesday a state report that finds civil unions create a second-class status for gay couples boosts their claims that the unions don't work.
The report's findings were officially released Tuesday but were first reported Saturday by The Associated Press.
The law took effect a year ago and was meant to give same-sex couples marriage equality without the title. The report found many companies refuse to provide health insurance to partners of their employees.
Gov. Jon S. Corzine has said he would sign a gay marriage bill, but doesn't want the issue considered before the November presidential election.
Great! Just another reason I’m happy I settled in NJ! sarc
Sounds like a ‘Shut up, don’t blow the election’ kind of remark to me.
It’s seems a little more than ironic that the same Steve Goldstein mentioned in the article is also the vice chair of the commission.
SHeesh, what is it with gays and govs in New Joisy?
New Jersey is a microcosm of what will happen in America if Obama or Clinton become President.
Jerseyites get the politicians they deserve. If the state legislature passes this (and I have the only openly gay state rep in NJ, Reed Gusciora), the “will of the people” has spoken.
Time to figure out how to get this on the ballot. Does NJ have a DOMA? This crud needs to be stopped yesterday.
the problem with that is just how many people look at what they are voting for when they vote for a legislature.
You think that when people voted for these people they knew at the time that they might allow gays to get married
I beleive the correct approach like Florida is doing is to let the people vote not like massachusetts what took their vote away
after all the libs and the gays like to tell us all the time that they are the majority(not) so let the people vote
I bet many people will be against it, i.e. muslims are a big factor and getting bigger, conservatives there are some left there, older dems, strict jews etc etc
Waiting till after the election just shows how the dems and the gay special interest groups no not want the people to speak
Not a fan of ballot initiatives. Anti-republican and antithetical to our nation’s founding principals, to say nothing of the fact that it has led to the most dysfunctional state government in the US (California). Mob democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what’s for dinner.
we got the question on the ballot, actually broke records doing it.

the last thing you want is corrupted legislatures like the massachusetts ones or liberal judges againlike massachusetts ignoring the will of the people and pushing their own sick agenda
I believe NJ must do the same or very similar, are they allowed to do a recall of their Gov?
I believe we now have the site for that large nuclear waste and toxic chemical dump!
And don't knock phone calls and letters. That is how the ERA was defeated (in that far right state of Illinois, no less), to say nothing of last years amnesty proposal in congress.
understand what you are saying but you know as well as I do that many people are ill informed just look at a lot of obama voters, they vote for him yet have no idea what they are voting for.
They say well he speaks well(so did hitler) he wants change(what change?)
What needs to done is to get the message out in the poaper, on bill boards on the commercials of TV letting the citizens know that certain legislatures want to allow this so called gay marriage.
saying that though just look at massachusetts, the legislatures well most was going to let the people vote but deval patrick and other dems bribed enough legislatures to change their vote at the last minute thus not letting the people vote even though now tax payers do not have repersentation.
So in essence even if everyone knew who they were voting for and what they were voting for then last minute changes though corruption happened
Here we go again................This could also be something that he’s trying to put out to get the attention taken off his “Asset Monetization” plan. I wouldn’t put it past him. I wonder if the Jersey Guys on 101.5 are going to talk about this today?
Does anyone know the when the next train for anywhere that ISN’T NJ leaves? And don’t forget to tell the BPU to turn off the lights when they’re done.
Oink, Oink!
