Record cold kills cattle and rice in Vietnam ( global warming )
The Earth Times ^ | 13 Feb 2008

Posted on 02/20/2008 7:27:47 PM PST by george76

Record-setting cold weather has killed more than 8,000 cattle and 100,000 hectares of paddy rice in northern Vietnam since mid-January, officials said Tuesday. Most of the cattle have died in northern mountainous provinces, where temperatures during the month-long cold spell have sometimes dropped to below zero Celsius, a rarity in Vietnam.

"We fear that the number of cattle killed by coldness and shortage of food in northern provinces will keep rising in the coming days," ...

The cold spell, which the National Hydrometeorology Forecast Center says is the longest ever in Vietnam, has also killed up to 100,000 hectares of the winter-spring crop of paddy rice throughout the northern provinces.

LOL ... my dad was in Vietnam for 2 years (Infantry) (God rest his soul). He would have gotten one hell of a laugh from seeing this.

The more liberals who are impacted and who have personal experiences that do not support AGW, the better. Narcissists always put more stock in whatever they personally experience.

I don’t know about some liberals. Monday I had my quarterly tooth cleaning and told the Dental Hygeniest about how cold it was in Mexico.

She had me tell the office liberal about the record cold temps in Mexico. The office liberal tried to blame it on global warming and try to end the conversation. Her peers just laughed at her, and she wasn’t laughing nor changed from her Green Nazism.

Roger That! In the central highlands we thought of “cold” as temperatures in the low 70’s F.

The area of freezing weather is farther north, but still the whole idea of any part of Vietnam having freezing weather sounds unbelievable.

What short memories you all have. Don’t you remember that when John Kerrey crossed over into Cambodia from Vietnam in his swift boat on Christmas Day, it was snowing!

Well, that’s what he said...

Perhaps not just yet.

From my time on the left, I can tell you that nothing will silence a Progressive like ridicule and embarrasment, especially from their cohorts.

Give it time. A couple of years ago, I had an old friend who now believes wholly in AGW tell me how he was planting live oaks and various nut trees (in Western Wisconsin, where, besides the temperatures and some virulent nut tree diseases, we get pretty constant drying winds from the Plains) because of Climate Change. I just listened and even asked him for recommendations on what to plant. All of this was in front of several other people, some of them quietly skeptical. Recently, I asked someone about Roger’s trees. They just laughed and said he had lost a bunch last winter. He’ll have lost more this year. I will bet that by next Spring, if 2008-09 is cold, he will be back to oak and spruce. Same guy was predicting the end of maple syrup, but it looks like this is going to be a banner year for that.

Sure, some Greenies will continue to parrot the party line, but eventually, they will change the subject and AGW will fall down the memory hole. Even now, whenever I have asked over this winter where my global warming went, I have received glares and silence from the devotees. It is fun and laughing keeps me warm. ;) It is only going to get more difficult for them to keep on with the big scares. A lot hinges on this summer. If it is freaking hot, which I doubt (we didn’t even put in our bedroom a/c last summer and I had to heat the pool almost all the way through July and August), they will be vindicated in their own minds. If it is mild, they will become even quieter.

You may be right about some of them.

MTBE has faded down the memory hole of most of the libs out here in Cali land. They have never admitted that they had a carcenigen put into our gasoline. They just forget about it.

www.vps.com but it won’t work on FR. It is unicode and easy to use. I have turned on friends in VN to it but had to stop because of the anti-Communist stuff on the site. I used to like to read it but they hardly ever update.

There’s a legend that it snowed there once in 580 AD.

After the fall of South Vietnam, my wife and I decided to sponsor a Vietnamese refugee family, sort of to pay back the hospitality I'd received over there. We got a man who had been born in the North, then moved South as a refugee after the French lost. He told me that once, as a child, he'd seen snow in the North. Never in the South (I can believe that). Looks like things are really cooling down there.

That’s why those whacked out claims of unbelievably ancient civilizations building the Sphinx or this or that underwater structure are bunk.

Prior to ten thousand years ago the Ice Ages climate was too chaotic for agrarian civilization to spring up.

I remember back in 1969; the temp in Danang in December was consistently in the 50’s - 60’s as the rainy season stayed around past its normal end. We were used to warmer temps and we were cold as Hades. I remember piling all my dirty clothes on top of me when I tried to go to sleep in an effort to stay a little warm.

“Did you every see snow there ?”

I was in VN in the 60’s, then lived/worked in VN in the 90’s. I suggested to my VN girlfriend that it must have snowed in VN somewhere at some time in the past. She was very sure that there has never been any snow in VN.

Of course, she also thought I was going to marry her. Go figure.

Aloha Gary!
,br>Got your card from Panama, thanks. Showed it around to some of the Pilipinas at work but they all told me those old busses are no longer used.....

Got a tip from Thanh Phero on VN font. Downloaded VPS 4.3 but haven't figured out how to use it yet. It's on my key board...if I type a double e it comes out ê. Double o, ơ, got ơư, ă, ư, đ, Đ....but have to check on using the tone marks.

Now let's see if this shows up on your end.

They'd say this is the "warm-up" for global warming.

Right. Anything that occurs in the realm of weather is proof to them that man made global warming is a fact. When you point out that the US upper midwest has been colder than normal this winter, Siberia is having one of the coldest winters since WWII, and the Sierras and the Olympic ranges have had near record snowfall, they just say that any abnormal weather is more proof of man made global warming.

I recently read that a majority of professional climatologists don't believe that global warming is caused by man made CO2. They either say that periodic disturbances on the surface of the sun has a far greater affect on the warming and cooling trends of earth's oceans and atmosphere than the minuscule percentage of all the earth's CO2 that is man made could possibly have, or that man made CO2 is only responsible for a very, very small percentage of a very small rise in earth's CO2 level since the 20th century began, and that the sun's variations in surface activity have far more influence on global climate.

OTOH, most of the 5000 scientists who signed the UN paper blaming man for global warming are not climatologists and have very little or no expertise in weather science. But that doesn't stop them from making wild predictions of mass annihilation of life on planet Earth if all 6.5 billion of us don't move into caves, eat granola and soy milk gruel three times a day, and ride bikes to work.

Their bogus predictions wouldn't bother me if not for the fact that governments around the globe are making important policy and fiscal decisions that will seriously impact our lives based on whacko environmentalists' unfounded assumptions that are heavily influenced by political correctness run amok.
