John McCain's Very Bad Day
Time .com ^ | 2/21/08 | MICHAEL SCHERER/ WAYNE

Anytime John McCain declines to speak to the press, something horrible must be happening.

Back in New Hampshire, McCain held press conferences after every event, taking questions from reporters more often than he'd rub his lucky nickel. In Iowa, he would talk to scribes for hours on his bus, get off and then 30 minutes later hold an avail. The journalists would look at each other, bemused and defeated, with no questions left.

But Thursday was a different matter. In the wake of a scandalous New York Times story suggesting a romantic fling with a lobbyist, McCain arrived at a Ford Focus car assembly plant with a decidedly tense grin plastered across his face. His campaign staff promptly separated anyone with a pen or a tape recorder from the candidate. "The McCain campaign decided who they wanted on the tour, and it's only photographers," a nice lady from Ford announced after a reporter spotted the candidate behind a car chasse and tried to approach him.

However, McCain’s involvement and perceived promotion of this immigration reform act was a dangerous game.

What are you smoking. McCain was the chief architect of McCain-Kennedy as well as the 2006 Senate amnesty bill [S. 2611] that passed in the Rep controlled Senate with Reps voting AGAINST the bill 32-23 with McCain voting for it. This is not just perception, but reality. McCain favors amnesty period.

TRUE AMERICAN CONSERVATIVES do not help America lose wars.

TRUE AMERICAN CONSERVATIVES do not vote for candidates who support a policy that will destroy this country, i.e., amnesty.

This country will be destroyed from within, not by an external threat. Amnesty is more of a threat to the national security and survival than the WOT. It has been more than six years since 9/11 and still the border has not been secured.

Amen.

Under President McCain's (or President Obama or President Hitlery for that matter) MASS AMNESTY, then EVEN MORE RELATIVES OF THOSE AMNESTIED will be petitioned to come in under the aegis of "family reunification", EVEN MORE illegal crossings at nights with shabby border protection, EVEN MILLIONS more of anchor babies will be born, this country-while having its borders erased-will rapidly shift even more-so to a solid Democrat stranglehold on elections in so many states and on the federal level, that the Republican and conservative causes will greatly recede and then the agendae that truly will allow the islamofascists to win the WOT will be much more susceptible and sustainable.

I don't know how anyone can fail to see this LONG TERM ISSUE OF EROSION OF SOVEREIGNTY and how it makes all the other issues of conservatism moot (pro-gun, traditionalist Court, taxes, pro life) because conservatism will never again gain power in this country. It is suicidal. One can only shake one's head at the incredulousness of it all. Mr. McCain is JUST THE KIND OF TROJAN HORSE quisling, the proverbial fox in the henhouse, the zip in the wire, to usher in this 100 Years of Tears period, and the Republican Party will not stand up to him and stop him, nor will the Democrats interfere for he will be doing their policy bidding. And yet we are all supposed to trash our individual reasoning, drink the koolaid, wax orgasmic and all fall in lockstep, just because he has a friggin' (R) next to his name.

Sorry.

Not buyin'.

Deal not consummated.

ANCIR Calls on Presidential Candidates to Act Responsibly

The American Council for Immigration Reform (ANCIR) calls on the presumptive nominee of the Republican Party for President, John McCain, and Democratic Party Presidential candidates, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, to issue immediately statements clarifying their positions on legalizing the status of the 12 to 20 million illegal aliens in the U.S. and cautioning against unrealistic and rising expectations, here and abroad, surrounding this issue.

In the absence of such statements, this country could experience a potential tidal wave of illegal immigration from around the globe as people seek to enter the U.S. before an anticipated amnesty is passed. Our borders remain unsecured and we lack the ability to track and deport visa overstays. We remain very vulnerable as a nation to such an onslaught.

Senators McCain, Clinton, and Obama hold essentially the same views on immigration reform. All voted for the 2006 Senate Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill [S. 2611] and supported the 2007 McCain-Kennedy bill. Both bills granted what amounts to amnesty to the vast majority of the 12 to 20 million illegal aliens in the U.S., i.e., they would be allowed to stay and work in this country legally and they would be able to sponsor family members to join them as part of chain migration.

One of the three will be elected President of the United States. Armed with that knowledge, intending illegal immigrants living abroad will seek to enter the U.S. in the coming weeks and months to take advantage of an anticipated amnesty.

The world is closely following the U.S. election process. Candidates McCain, Clinton, and Obama must send a strong, unambiguous message to anyone intending to enter the U.S. illegally that they will not be included in any future comprehensive immigration reform legislation nor is it a given that those already here illegally will have their status legalized. ANCIR calls on the candidates to act responsibly to avoid making a bad situation even worse.

The Hispanic newspaper El Diario de Tiempo already bannered in their paper two weeks ago, that illegals in the U.S.A. had de-facto WON, because McCain, Hilary or Obama would all be for "regularization" (Amnesty), so it was a slam-dunk regarding the next President. It was further picked up in South of the Border Press in Spanish and yes, the word is spreading. Those illegals who can read are going to be strongly and boldly encouraged over this. And those who cannot read, will hear about it by radio and word of mouth. It will indeed spread and we will become FLOODED. It is very serious. Folks this is indeed going to get very bad.

“I know this is the popular mantra, but I think the ability of non-Republicans to vote in the primaries is what got him this far.”

And the fact that there were more open primaries this time than ever before. Research McCain’s Reform Institute and their advocacy for open primaries, and you don’t need to be a conspiracy theorist to see how this came about. McCain and the Pubbie establishment knew that he didn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of winning the nomination unless there were plenty of open primaries so independents could crossover for him. The party insiders know, even if McCain doesn’t, that those same independents will vote for Obama in the general. That’s why the all the angst at conservatives who aren’t willing to jump on the McCain bandwagon. The party thought we conservatives would be more malleable and fearful than we are proving to be.

What is there to like about John McCain? Nothing. Ah, poetic justice that after what he did to Mitt Romney, he got the same treatment. Of course, the story might be true. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

This Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill looks like a collaborative effort with people sticking things in until it stunk to high heaven. I suspect the DemonRATs put their fixes in to engineer the conditions for more Rat voters from south of the border.

I wonder if McCain was playing some type of “dangerous game” knowing the bill will go down in flames. This game was to appear to favor our south of the border voters—some of who the DemonRATs have registered illegally—to prep (or whore) himself for the run for the presidency. This is why McCain pushed the bill and voted for it. The fix was in to defeat it once it got on the floor. Because of McCain (and others) it had a Republican face on it for the perception value of it.

It’s just a theory. Might be something more than smoke.

Sorry, but as someone who lobbied the Hill on the bill as an immigration activist, you couldn’t be more wrong. McCain was the leader in both 2006 and 2007 on amnesty. He was the prime mover and architect. The idea that he was playing some game knowing the bill would go down in flames is a joke. You are trying to defend the indefensible. McCain is not known as the “Amnesty King” for nothing.

Next question?

How does the phrase "Comander in Chief Barack Obama" sound to you?

I dislike McCain, but not enough to hand over my country to Barack "the Messiah" Obama.

Since when did you or AmericanInTokyo become "American Conservatism" incarnate? Is it not "rampant stupidity" or the ultimate Strawman Argument to claim that the personal views of one particular poster on Free Republic constitute ...... Drumroll, please ...... "American Conservatism"?

American Conservatism is well defined. Look it up.

I used to think that only leftist Democrats would rather have America lose a war than lose a domestic political fight.

It is far more than a political fight- If we must give up sacred rights and American sovereignty, and line up behind a dishonorable and traitorous bastard in order to prosecute this war, then yes, the price is too high. Rights and sovereignty trump all, as they should.

And as I have already said, this war will not end. There will not be peace with the ragheads. The front will move to American soil.

It seems, however, that some on Free Republic have redefined Conservatism to put their own political feuds first and American victory in its wars second, just like the Kucinich wing the the Democrat Party does.

As I said, American Conservatism is well defined. Look it up.

TRUE AMERICAN CONSERVATIVES do not help America lose wars.

Using the war to leverage the Conservative vote will not work this time. You got a free ride solely on the war in the last presidential election, and what resulted from that is unacceptable.

If you care to assign blame, lay it where it belongs- In the lap of the treasonous and duplicitous leadership of this administration and the GOP.
