John McCain's Very Bad Day
Time .com ^ | 2/21/08 | MICHAEL SCHERER/ WAYNE

Anytime John McCain declines to speak to the press, something horrible must be happening.

Back in New Hampshire, McCain held press conferences after every event, taking questions from reporters more often than he'd rub his lucky nickel. In Iowa, he would talk to scribes for hours on his bus, get off and then 30 minutes later hold an avail. The journalists would look at each other, bemused and defeated, with no questions left.

But Thursday was a different matter. In the wake of a scandalous New York Times story suggesting a romantic fling with a lobbyist, McCain arrived at a Ford Focus car assembly plant with a decidedly tense grin plastered across his face. His campaign staff promptly separated anyone with a pen or a tape recorder from the candidate. "The McCain campaign decided who they wanted on the tour, and it's only photographers," a nice lady from Ford announced after a reporter spotted the candidate behind a car chasse and tried to approach him.

Of course, you will be accused of being "anti American" (sic) with that kind of viewpoint. /sarc

You must be psychic! :P

So not a day after the NY Slimes smear without evidence, Time and Newsweak do more hit jobs. Those POS. Only they could make me support McCain due to their slimy actions.

The thought that ANY American politician, let alone a REPUBLICAN politician, could actually think it proper to censor the NRA and Right to Life from criticizing politicians 60 days before an election makes me sick to my stomach...I could never vote for such an un-American, disgusting man.

Thank you! Very well said.

True, we’ll probably get the kind of censorship seen in Europe and Canada, [...] but McCain is of that same belief, [...] and frankly, if or when it happens, I prefer it not to have come about by someone that I voted for, my conscience won’t allow it.

Exactly my point- There is no opposition if both sides of the aisle are socialists.

My Daddy thought a lot of Claire Boothe Luce; said she came to Europe at the end of the war - right after I think - and was flown around over the battlefields (where brave men died crawling out of foxholes with their hands frozen to the triggers on their guns) and when she landed after that, she remarked that she did not see how anyone could have survive such utter destruction as those battlefields.

Your knowledge of this is better than mine. If McCain cannot defend his actions in this area, he is going down in flames. If he thinks he is sacrificing the conservative vote for a better outcome with the Hispanics, he is playing a dangerous game. I wouldn’t let McCain anywhere near a Los Vegas casino.

Mr. McCain is JUST THE KIND OF TROJAN HORSE quisling, the proverbial fox in the henhouse, the zip in the wire, to usher in this 100 Years of Tears period, and the Republican Party will not stand up to him and stop him, nor will the Democrats interfere for he will be doing their policy bidding. And yet we are all supposed to trash our individual reasoning, drink the koolaid, wax orgasmic and all fall in lockstep, just because he has a friggin' (R) next to his name.

What a magnificent post! 100% true! Good on ya, AIT.

She made on of my favorite quips: Henry Wallace advocated “freedom of the skies”, which Clare Boothe Luce dismissed as “globaloney”.

Heh, why do we need the NYT when some FReepers will demonize the “far, far right” ( as opposed to what, the “near right”?) all by themselves.

Can you prove that?

Yes, and the far, far right needs to be demonized at times. Nothing is perfect in this life and stepping out of the process does not make you a freedom loving conservative, it makes you look certifiable.

Why not evaluate an idea on its merits/demerits instead of using broad-brush terms like “far, far right”? Such a tactic looks like an excuse for not being able to argue effectively. It also doesn’t add any particular value. I don’t know what is meant by “far, far right”, and how that differs from the “near, far right” or the “near near right”.

LOL!

I can see by your post that you apparently get you "news and information" from the liberal main stream media.

My advice is to stop doing that.

Let’s see - did I seek or ask for your advice on this subject - let me think - no, I don’t think so. I’m just as conservative as you are, just feed up with those on the far, far right that a waiting for perfect, don’t put perfect up for a vote, are still waiting for perfect - a perfect conservative cannot be elected POTUS - compromise and a push to the right daily is all that can happen at this point, so get off my back and get with the program or just get lost.

In the wake of a scandalous New York Times story suggesting a romantic fling with a lobbyist

The only thing "scandalous" is how the New York Times has lowered itself to the journalistic "standards" of the The National Enquirer.

Right after, and quite possibly before, he is officially crowned the Republican standard bearer he is going to have 7 bad days a week. Courtsey of his “friends” in the main stream media.
