The solution to his hearing gunfire at night is very simple: Pass a law requiring all firearms to be equipped with silencers, and remover them from Class III.

Just because NFA weapons are legal in some states doesn’t mean they’re legal in all. Minnesota is a “Curio&Relic” state. The only MGs that can be legally owned by an individual here are those on the C&R list.

Understood. LL was unclear in his post. It sounded to me like he was speaking about the entire country. His response to me clarified that point. I, myself live in a "not so free" state in regards to machine guns, so am aware that some state statues are more strict than the federal laws. And, I do agree that the guys original article was, as is usually the case, with gun grabbers, mostly Bravo Sierra.

You can legally own machine guns made before 1986. It requires a background check by the local LEO, a background check by the FBI, $200 to the NFA branch of the ATF and usually takes about 9 months.

There’s many, many privately owned M-16’s, HK MP5’s and AK’s in the US.

Same thing’s true with suppressors, but you can own current manufactured ones.

Here is Don’s Bio...He’s a commie...

Don immigrated to the US from Jamaica in 1970 to study Industrial Design. He resigned his position as Senior Director of Research & Development at Playskool to head his own small business, inventing and designing toys for major toy manufacturers. Don also graduated with a Masters of Divinity in 2001 from the Luther Seminary.

After emerging as a strong voice for peace in his North Minneapolis neighborhood, Don was urged by his neighbors to run for public office. With their support, Don was first elected to the Minneapolis City Council in February 2003.

Don Co-chairs the Executive Committee of the Empowerment Zone Board, is the Chair of the Public Safety and Regulatory Services Committee, and serves as the only Northside representative on the City’s Community Development Committee.

As a public servant, Don has kept his focus on the Northside’s three most pressing issues: safety, housing and jobs.

Don initiated city action to address problem businesses, he has held property owners accountable for social conduct and is attracting quality developers to the Northside housing market. Don has brought over $2 million additional resources for public safety in personnel and technology, he has attracted over $100 Million in economic development to West Broadway, $100 million development to Penn and Plymouth and helped bring over 1,000 jobs to youth and the hard to employ.

Don consistently works to recruit quality employers to North Minneapolis. In his role as a Council Member, he has helped direct Empowerment Zone and Community Development funds to North Minneapolis-based employment services. He also co-sponsored a resolution to restrict when the City of Minneapolis can ask applicants if they have been convicted of a crime, thus allowing qualified and rehabilitated ex-felon job seekers a greater chance of attaining employment with the city.

Don is the Founder of the PEACE Foundation - Public Engagement and Community Empowerment connecting regional partners and local resident in collaborations to end violence. He also founded the African American Economic Development Committee, to support the development of African American businesses in the city. With his wife Sondra, Don also founded the Institute for Authentic Dialogue on race, which guides executives and leaders in conversations and relationships across race with unprecedented clarity and mutuality.

Don has an adult son and two young daughters. He and his family live in the Jordan neighborhood of North Minneapolis.

"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and goodwill shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee."
Gospel of Jules 2:16

I don’t think our state law in Minnesota defines permissible ownership by date of manufacture.

State law may not, but the Volkmer/McClure act signed by President HW Bush says one may own a machine gun if it was manufactured before May 1986 but not after.

So...federal law supersedes state law. The only way you can own a machine gun manufactured after May 1986 is if you are a Class III machine gun dealer or a machine gun manufacturer.

You are correct. Perfectly legal here in PA, just expensive.

"I hear automatic gunfire at night from my bedroom," said Samuels."

If I heard automatic fire while laying in bed, I knew it was time to get my a$$ up and get over to the twice yearly machine gun shoot at the strip mine.

True, but try buying a machine gun that the ATF hasn’t given you permission to own, and you’ll quickly find yourself clapped in irons!

Not good, but it IS the current reality.

It’s even worse, an NFL player was arrested for owning guns that are perfectly legal to own in most of the other states, and he faces jail time!

Or, try owning a high-capacity magazine in NJ, you’ll be arrested there, too.

Again, it’s not right, but it IS reality!

The good thing is, though, there ARE means to own an HM-MP5 in most states if you can afford it and are willing to jump through the hoops.
