Four dissidents freed this week after five years in inhumane conditions in a Cuban prison have revealed the dark side of Fidel Castros regime.
The four...described regular beatings, humiliation and arbitrary punishment with long periods of solitary confinement in cramped cells with cement beds.
They said they were deprived of food and water in conditions which resembled "a desert".
Arriving in Spain to be reunited with their families, they exposed the routine abuse of political prisoners which marked Castros five decades in power.
The four were part of a group of 75 dissidents who were jailed in 2003 by Castros regime in a move which caused an international outcry. The official reason given for their release was "health reasons".
But behind the scenes pressure from the Spanish Government on Havana is believed to have been the key to setting free the long-term opposition activists, who all have relatives in Spain.
While the dissidents tasted freedom, 58 of the original 75 jailed for long terms in 2003 are still behind bars.

Raul Castro will now release all the other political prisoners ?
What does Barack Hussein “Dialogue with Castro” Obama have to say about this?
Though I have no way to verify this low number is correct, I have a feeling it is quite underestimated .
Of course liberals would praise Castro as a humanitarian for ONLY having 250 political prisoners as compared to the thousands jailed by Bush claimed by the left.
Michael Moore and Sean Penn should be so proud.

Hey, don’t knock vintage chebbies. They are one of the few things that CAN work there. /chuckle
Just to send a message no one will ever forget, the US needs to maintain the blockade until Castro’s regime has been annihilated — regardless of how long it takes.
Barack Obama’s refusal to wear an American flag lapel pin along with the crotch salute photo during the National Anthem ...
but he wants to meet with Castro ?
Actions speak louder than words in this case. Obama’s actions are there for all to see and his words that he’s used to try to explain those actions away are simply BS!
He’s unAmerican in my view.
Hey, somebody send a clue to that stinking POS Michael “Moron” Moore.
