Will Smith gets apology, undisclosed damages from WENN

Hollywood actor Will Smith today received an apology and undisclosed damages from a London based news agency after they distributed a story alleging the actor had called Adolf Hitler a “good person”.

The article was distributed in December last year by The World Entertainment News Network (WENN) with the accompanying headline “Smith: Hitler was a good person”.

After Smith complained, WENN retracted the article and circulated a correction and apology.

Smith’s lawyer said the allegation was “false and without any foundation” and had wholly misrepresented the actor’s words.

“The claimant believes that Adolf Hitler was a vile and heinous man,” she added. “The allegation that he could think otherwise is deeply distressing to the claimant and has caused him acute embarrassment.”

WENN’s lawyer told the court: “The defendant accepts that the allegations concerning the claimant were misleading and published in error. It is therefore happy to set the record straight and to apologize to the claimant.”

The company agreed to pay an unspecified amount to Smith, who will donate the money to charity. Will, 39, was not in court.

The story was completely wrong. It was Obama who said that...

it's unbelievable how much trouble can be caused for someone just by saying, "he said he likes hitler!"

we surely have entered into an information drunk age where reality is far distant second; so far that you have to pay a lawyer to make someone acknowledge it.

This is no fun.

I did enjoy "Pursuit of Happyness" tremendously.

Will is a generally good person; never had to use profanity to make it in rap, awesome work ethic, models his acting ethos on Jimmy Stewart. His dad was a pastor, raised him right.

Just saying it wouldn’t cause much of a fuss. Slap in a headline and distribute around the world? Maybe a little more.

After he wrapped his last film his “gift” to the cast and crew was gift certificates for auditing sessions.

He’s talented, but he’s not a saint.

Hopefully he won't be interested in eating the placenta the next time his wife has a baby.

Hadn’t heard any of the foregoing, know how he worked his butt off and made it in rap when everyone else, seemingly used profanity and denigration. And Scientology, yikes, stuff’s crap.

Just Google "'Tom Cruise' and 'placenta'". There were several threads about this last year.

However, had he said that Stalin, Lenin, Trotsky, Castro and Che were all good persons, the only people reacting to it would be freepers...

Screw Xenu and all those bloody 'thetans'. Jesus is going to kick all of their asses, and most likely sooner than they think. ;)

The folks who get wrapped up in Scientology....are very insecure and uncomfortable with themselves. They have deep issues and willing to allow auditing to convince themselves that something is wrong and can be fixed. The amusing thing...is that Scientology isn’t a religious effort that ought to get 10 percent of your net income per year (like some religions demand)...they’d like to get as much as possible...then dump you.
