The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows that John McCain continues to hold a very modest lead against both potential Democratic challengers. In a general election match-up, McCain now leads Barack Obama 46% to 44% and Hillary Clinton 48% to 44%. McCain has led both Democrats on each night of individual tracking since the controversial New York Times article on McCain was released earlier this week (see recent daily results and summary of recent state general election polls).
The Rasmussen Reports Balance of Power Calculator shows Democrats with a 284 to 229 lead in the Electoral College. If leaners are not included, the Democrats lead 238 to 189. Since yesterday, North Carolina has shifted from Safe Republican to Likely Republican while Wisconsin has shifted from Likely Democrat to Leans Democrat. New polling has been released today for Wisconsin and New Mexico. The Balance of Power Calculator determines projections by aggregating a variety of information from many sources including polls, the Rasmussen Markets, analyst assessments and more (see summary of recent state general election polling).

I have to say that I am warming up to McCain. He is the only candidate who can win that is for victory in Iraq. Obama and Hillary are for pulling out as soon as they can. I was against McCain all along, but I am now thinking that not voting for McCain is national suicide. Now is not the time for a dove as president.
I’m thinking this will only increase when the nation of sheeple start to realize how rotten the dimocrat candidate really is.
“Sounds like it drives a stake into McCain, if anything.”
Always a silver lining.
You don’t understand that in a free society sometimes the other side does win?
“McCain has the potential to put states like Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Washington, and Wisconsin in play from the RAT side.”
I live in Washington State and you are smoking rope if you believe that this state will go for him.
“I have to say that I am warming up to McCain.”
masochist.
I think it will be more like a daily beating from the MSM.
McCain so bruised and battered, looking like a boxer in the 12th round after 200 head shots. His opponent begging him to throw in the towel. Everyone wincing after each shot connects with full force.
“Of those conservatives who said they would never vote for McCain 63% knew in their hearts they would, come November.”
Only 63%? I would have bet on at least 75%. Conservatives remain the battered wives of American politics.
These IQ rankings for politicians are totaly bogus. This is how it works: They award 10 points for voting liberal on an issue and zero for voting conservative.
So McCain went liberal either 12 or 13 times in the last decade.
I'm optimistic that these 97 EV will drift back towards their more normal color as we approach November. I think that only Missouri and Ohio will give us major concerns but ultimately will fall into the red camp.
"The democrat numbers were superior in every primary."
I wouldn't put too much stock in that. The Dems' primary numbers were huge 20 years ago, and then in the fall, Dukakis got blown away.
Also, remember the race is tight for the Dems, while the GOP contest has been basically over since Florida.
And that's without Nader coming in and taking 1-2% of the Dem vote.
“Exactly. So we’re just going to have to steal the election again by rigging the vote in Ohio, just like we did in 2004. Not a problem.”
We rigged nothing. We got gay marriage on the ballot and we got the Democrats to nominate a liberal fool.
liberal? check
fool? not
conservative ballot initiative? not.
1 out of 3. Ohio will be close.
Florida otoh will have a marriage ballot initiative. cuban americans wont vote for the guy who has che flags in his campaign HQ. FL will be in the bag.
Alice,
I do not know if it will be McCain, and I do not trust McCain, any more than I trust Bush.
However, Bush is fighting in a war that has lasted for over a thousand years against hte satanic cult of i slam. He is beset by criticism on every side, and yet Al Qaeda has no need of a retirement plan due in large part to Bush.
Bush gave us a Supreme Court justice that just may make the difference in the 2nd amendment decision. To me the 2nd amendment is the best one.
I agreed with Ann Coulter, but I have read stats on McCain, and I respect his time in Hanoi Hilton. Please read the NRA rating on him and the rest of his record.
Yes, some of his positions have been despicable.
And, just to change the subject, keep your powder dry and make sure of your target.
Not me. I am going hunting that week and I will check the Dish sat before coming back. I may just stay in the outback.
Maybe in High School.
It’s good news that McCain is ahead. I really think that Senator McCain can forge a good coalition to defeat Senator Obama in November.
McCain is a one termer. How do you get leverage?
