Rasmussen: 2/24/08 Latest Poll Shows McCain Leading over Both Democrats

Sunday, February 24, 2008

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows that John McCain continues to hold a very modest lead against both potential Democratic challengers. In a general election match-up, McCain now leads Barack Obama 46% to 44% and Hillary Clinton 48% to 44%. McCain has led both Democrats on each night of individual tracking since the controversial New York Times article on McCain was released earlier this week (see recent daily results and summary of recent state general election polls).

The Rasmussen Reports Balance of Power Calculator shows Democrats with a 284 to 229 lead in the Electoral College. If “leaners” are not included, the Democrats lead 238 to 189. Since yesterday, North Carolina has shifted from Safe Republican to Likely Republican while Wisconsin has shifted from Likely Democrat to Leans Democrat. New polling has been released today for Wisconsin and New Mexico. The Balance of Power Calculator determines projections by aggregating a variety of information from many sources including polls, the Rasmussen Markets, analyst assessments and more (see summary of recent state general election polling).

Rasmussen had a Hillary-Rudy match up sewed up back in October.

I wipe my ass with the poll data.

Dukakis led GHWB by 17 points in the summer of ‘88.

Plus, if any form of Universal healthcare is ever instituted, abortion coverage will be included.

Excellent point, rarely talked about. This should be trumpeted as a campaign issue; my guess is it would help the GOP, in Congressional races as well.

Ohio and Florida are the key states for McCain, since it’s virtually impossible for him to win California, New York, Pennsylvania, and other large states in the northeast and midwest. Too early to get excited about any polls this far out from the election.

That a conservative would willingly hand over the reigns of our military to a socialist for ANY reason makes me wonder about that conservative.

You have that right.

That has more to do with spending four years trying to get kicked out of school than with intelligence.

My conscience will not allow me to turn my country over to socialists and military haters like Hillary or Obama.

I will vote for McCain despite my personal dislike of him.

In my judgment, spending four years trying to get kicked out of a school most people don't have a chance of attending says something about his intelligence.

little mac is insane. allahbama is a communist. lttle hiterly is a socialist. Ron Paul is an American firster, Constitution firster, family firster, life firster, freedom firster, individual liberty firster, gun rights firster, conservative firster, and the first OBGYN to ever run for President.

Many here hate him for his belief we were suckered into Iraq under false pretenses. Consequently, they are convinced that if we pull out of Iraq now such action amounts to a surrender to terrorists.I would suggest that if we do not capture OBL who has managed to elude the entire resources of the US govt, we are the losers no matter what.

Funny how we can set up a guy who sawed off a shotgun, kill his wife, son, and dog, but can’t seem to catch up with the world’s foremost terrorist. Funny how we can trap a business man soliciting for prostitution but can’t find OBL. Funny how we can entrap a politician in airport bathroom stall but can’t find OBL. Funny how a mother dies in airport custody arrested under terror guidelines and policy but we can’t find OBL. Funny how we can shoot and kill a guy having a panic attack on a plane in Miami but we can’t find OBL. Funny how we can stand there helpless as our mothers in their wheelchair are strip searched but we can’t find OBL. Funny how we can seize the properties of homeowners under the guise of eminent domain but can’t find OBL. Funny how our banks must report us to HHS when we move our money around for whatever reason but we can’t find OBL.

I could go on and on. This could end with the capture and conviction of OBL. lil mac claims he can do it. I demand he do it now and not later.

Little mac has promised to capture OBL if he is elected. Now how can this be? If he knows now how to capture OBL, shouldn’t he be sharing this info with someone right now?
He is aware our troops are still being killed right? I don’t care if he can capture him as a senator or a dog catcher, so long as he is captured. If I knew how, I would be telling anyone and everyone who would listen. Not little mac. He wants us to elect him first. Then, and only then, will he seek to capture the world’s most wanted terrorist.

I ain’t drinkin little mac’s koolaid. If he knows how to capture OBL right now then he should be executing such a plan right now. He could begin right now by forcing Bush to consider his plan to capture OBL. But the fact remains he demands we must elect him first in order for this to occur. What about our troops lil mac? They are in harms way while you obviously have a plan to capture OBL. Shouldn’t you be considering them first over yourself. You said if elected you would capture OBL. Why not do it now lil mac?
You are a senator of the US. Surely you have some influence over others that might hear out your plan to capture OBL saving untold lives of our sons and daughters dying in the desert.

The ideals once represented by the republican party are dead. They died with dubyai. lil mac has been charged with hammering the nails in the coffin.

After thirty some years as a republican , I feel like a fool. I placed all my cards in one basket thinking they would save us from socialism and communism only to discover all my votes over all these years were cast in MacVain.

Rinos mocked at their only chance to save this nation from a socialist police state. They did so for the most part believing that leaving Iraq is a cut and run surrender monkey strategy. Meanwhile, as our troops are still dying the POTUS laughs and makes jokes “no weapons of mass destruction here” hehehe...nope none here hehehe”

McCain has publically stated if elected he will find OBL. If he wants my vote, he needs to find him now.

Also note:
Until the Democratic nominee is determined, the polling data used for each state will be based upon an average of the results for Barack Obama vs. John McCain and Hillary Clinton vs. John McCain.
This means that if Sen. Obama is the Dem pick, then things are even worse for the GOP than this analysis indicates, since Sen. McCain polls far better against Sen. Clinton than Sen. Obama.

On the other hand, Sen. McCain gets crushed so badly by Sen. Obama in battleground states that not averaging with Sen. Clinton's numbers doesn't really change the Electoral College outcome much. (For example, in Pennsylvania, Sen. McCain actually beats Hillary. But gets only 39% against Obama's 49%. So Rasmussen has averaged these into a Dem likely win...if it's Obama, then it's just a more crushing Dem win.)

Count me in that group. I know what I’m getting and not getting with McCain, and I’m willing to endure it.

Thank you! The GOP is glad to hear that they don't ever again have to worry about taking conservatism seriously.

“Since yesterday, North Carolina has shifted from Safe Republican to Likely Republican”...This is a trend that has been growing for several yrs now and this year may be the cliff. NC will not elect a R gov. no matter what happens. Dole may have trouble this year.

I notice they had Iowa listed as a toss-up.

The new DM Register Poll today shows McCain thrashing Hillary in Iowa in the general by 9%. If it’s Obama, McCain loses 53/36.

If Obama is the nominee, I will not only send McCain money, I will actively help campaign for him. I really thought I was going to have to sit this election out, but the mindless followers Obama has attracted convince me otherwise. Looking back over history, every time a “charismatic” but empty leader has had glassy-eyed fanatics usher them into office absolute devestation has followed. I can’t think of a single one that didn’t go on to become a dictator.

I was actually thinking about sitting out the election in November. I didn’t want to vote for McCain. But, I have changed my mind. The situation with Iran, I have no doubt McCain will handle that properly and decisively. The other thing is that McCain is not a dove. I will never not even in peace time vote for a dove either directly or indirectly. But, what clinches it is that McCain is not Clinton or Obama. I won’t stay home and vote for them by default.
