Did the oil companies stand with us when Bush asked things of them, for the war and for the national security side of energy independence.

Like what? Did they stop furnishing the armed forces with fuel? Did they mothall all their taknkers? Did they pour sugar int their gas and deisel? What?

They did not. They said "never happen", laughed, and gave themselves 8 figure bonuses.

Do you mean that they actually disposed of their own money as they chose? OUTRGEOUS!!!!!!!

So they can pound sound.(???) I for one will not lift a single typing finger in their defense.

I can see that you are in favor of more government-fueled inflation and anti-capitalist theft. So I guess there is no sense asking you what you think of the FairTax to stop such outright theft of legal profits.

I see. So you trust to the government to regulate a business under the guise of taxation, and then use that money in a way that benefits YOU as the consumer?

You are in fantasy land.

And they invested?

Yes, that is why in spite of today's oil and gasoline prices, their profit margin remains about 10%. The investment in upgraded and expanded facilities is immense. The demand for people, equipment and materials in the oil/gas industries is overwhelming due to the demand by oil companies. Pump, Pipe and Vessel manufactures are having a hard time keeping up with orders; lead times for these items are getting longer and longer.

And they cooperated with Bush's call for a reduction in reliance on imports

Oil companies do not control the resources kept out of exploration and production, the Federal Government does. The amount of drilling rigs active in the US is way up. But they are not being used in our some of most promising areas because they are denied access to them.

In 1999, there was an average of 625 active drill rigs in the US. In 2007 the average 1,769. It is past time we let them drill in places like ANWR.

North American Rotary Rig Counts

They We can pay another $40 billion a year in taxes. Heck, they we can pay a $400 billion capital levy paid in shares. Screw 'em us.

I fixed your typo's.

You damn well better care because if you think the government is going to stop with the oil companies, you're deaf, dumb and blind.

Especially when the movement is led by the party that hates 'evil corporations'.

So, you approve of Fascism?

That's what it really boils down to, isn't it? These Democrat apparatchiki want total control over what these companies do and the money they receive FROM US!

Marvelous attitude. You are sure showing your true colors -- red/hammer and sickel, most likely.

You have just volunteered to pay higher taxes.

I don’t mind if you want to do that but why do you want all of us to pay higher taxes?

What kind of nonsense is this?

You go ahead and side with the Pelosi’s of the world and watch our domestic oil capacity diminish.

Side with the Dimwits on no drilling in the Eastern Gulf of Mexico and watch China come and get the oil for themselves.

Side with those who oppose ANWR, no drilling off the east coast of the US, the west coast of the US.

ANWR is the size of S Carolina and the oil companies want to drill on approx. 2000 acres, the size of a small municipal airport. But it’s pristine wilderness-yeah right...(have you ever seen a pic of ANWR?)

Side with Klinton who shut off the worlds largest deposit of coal (in Utah) which made the Lippo Group & James Riady (huge Clinton contributors) own the next largest deposit of coal.

Bashing our oil & energy companies plays right into the hands of the populist-Marxist-Peronist-Chavez-type people which will only drive our dependence up higher.

I think the Pelosi should hear about this greedy, selfish capitalist — and come ttake all that independence (money) away from him. Just who the hell does he think he is to be able to keep some of the fruits of his labor (or stealing — I wonder which)>

Conoco actually used high prices to look for more oil. Exxon used high prices to raise dividends, fund share repurchases, get capital to exit the industry, and pay themselves fat bonuses.

Exxon Mobil Corporation announced today that it replaced more than 100 percent of its production in 2007.

Additions to the Corporation’s worldwide proved oil and gas reserves totaled 1.6 billion oil-equivalent barrels in 2007 or 101 percent of production.

ExxonMobil sets record in 2007 for drilling deepest producing well.

The Z-12 well is located in the Chayvo field, which contains 17 of the world’s 30 longest extended reach drilling wells, and set a record by achieving a measured depth of 38,322 feet (11,680 meters), or more than seven miles. This exceeds by 1,306 feet (398 meters) the prior world record set in 2007 by Exxon Neftegas Limited’s Z-11 well at the Sakhalin-1 project.

An example of ExxonMobil willing to invest in a new field. A darn shame we don't provide more areas where they can do that in the US.

I can see who my allies are

No, sir, you do not. You've shown absolutely no understanding of Capitalism and free markets and how it all works. Similarly, you show absolutely no understanding of how taxes work. Lastly, you need to do some serious research into history, specifically the history of Fascism and it's results.

I would recommend you read the novel Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. If we keep up with the confiscatory tax schemes you seem to think work so well, sooner or later the producers will throw up their hands and go elsewhere to do business. This is very true of the oil companies, since the USA is only a small portion of their overall market.

Don’t tell him to read Ayn Rand. His head would explode. Such revolutionary concepts as limited governments, free markets, and individual liberty. You’d give the man a stroke.

You’d give the man a stroke.

Perhaps so, but that single book so vividly illustrates the folly with the things he thinks he cherishes and believes in, I thought it might just open his eyes a wee bit.

It's also pretty funny that he thinks he can avoid the passing down of these DemocRat proposed confiscatory "corporate" taxes to be levied on the evil oil companies by merely not driving as much, as if oil is only used as fuel in something he might choose to drive. He gives absolutely no thought whatsoever to the fact that every product he uses, regardless of it's origin, was transported by a vehicle that uses petroleum based fuels. I suppose he's also ignorant of the fact that the overwhelming majority of plastic products are made from crude. Try to escape plastic in 2008. I wish him luck.

Just another reminder of how Rush is so right when he says that we pay the highest price of all for ignorance.....
