Who is the clown that wrote that piece of garbage called “Before you fight...”? It is so full of useless and mis- information that you are going to get a LOT of innocent folks KILLED if any of them take you seriously. I realize that in Illinois, you strongly favor disarming all your victims, sort of like hanging a “Rob Me” or “Rape Me” sign around their necks. But this piece of crap article is so far over the top that, were it done in my Marine Corps back in the 60s, whoever wrote it would be up on charges and spend the rest of his or her life in the brig. What an utterly asinine bit of writing.
In order to do your job properly, you should be offering classes in firearm safety and marksmanship. Even subsidize the purchase of arms for your poor, if needs be, because, though I KNOW you hate facts, the actual fact of the matter is that when the absolute RIGHT of people to keep and bear arms is RESPECTED, CRIME GOES DOWN. Even someone as dense as most of you seem to be can understand cause and effect. What you are doing is as criminal as what a mugger on the street does... only worse, because people, however misguidedly, look to YOU to protect them from criminals, not BE the criminals.

There was a similar article in the news here recently about some local police telling residents how to keep themselves more safe. They advised using any household item you could throw at a home invader. But they cautioned against mace because that is illegal. I had not heard that. But it seems like mace would be more effective than other things.
Cops also said they discouraged having a gun because supposedly statistics show this increases the chance of an accident or suicide. Whether reality bears this up I do not know. I just know I would feel safer in a home invasion if I had a firearm to use against intruders.

The entire thing looks like it was written by someone with an 8th grade education and was instructed to put some anti gun ownership message in the text. Randomly placed it beneath the “If you must fight” heading. The whole piece piece is laughable and should be an embarassement to the ISP.

Since many attacks on women are not sexually motivated, and are designed to degrade and humiliate, talking your way out of it may be easier.
There is documentation of assailants that left a would-be-victim alone after she told him that she was pregnant and it would kill her baby. (Some case were women that were too old to even have a baby.) Telling an attacker that you have VD or AIDS can discourage him.
It may sound disgusting, but putting your fingers into you throat and making yourself vomit usually gets results. (This method is not often used except as a last resort.)

So, where does that leave us as Born Again Christians? Can we use deadly force to protect one another? Can we use deadly force to protect others? Can we who preach, use deadly force to protect those we preach to? The answer to every one of the questions above is YES, BUT.
Yes, you can use deadly force, for you will not loose your salvation by taking a life in defense of yourself, your family, your congregation or even a stranger in your midst.
BUT. Before you go out and buy yourself a .50 cal sniper rifle, there are a few things you should keep in mind before pulling the trigger or even unholstering a gun.
In order to demonstrate these things, I'm going to put to you, a few cases for your consideration.
What if you were to be coming home and you notice a commotion inside your house. You look in and your wife, son and daughter are on their knees praying to the Lord while a BATF agent is holding an uzi at their heads, screaming at them to renounce Christ or die. Do you shoot this deranged, but for the BATF normal, federal agent?
How about this, you're walking up to your brother's house and you see your nephew doing drugs and having a homosexual relationship. Suddenly it turns nasty and his homosexual partner pulls out a knife and lunges at your nephew. Do you intervene and shoot the attacker to save your nephew?
And one for Pastors. It's Wednesday night, you have twenty of the true faithful in your church or home praying and studying the Word of God, when suddenly a person comes in shooting and yelling. Do you take him out?
In each case the answer is the same, yes you can shoot and kill. But, should you? Each has to answer that question for themselves. Let's look a little closer at the results of the action of shooting or not shooting.
A BATF agent is going to shoot your family if they don't renounce the Lord. Two things to keep in mind here. One, you kids and wife are on their knees praying to the Lord, they are Saved. If the BATF agent kills them they go straight into the hands and arms of the Lord. If you shoot the agent, that agent goes straight to hell!
Let's look at the second case. Your nephew is undoubtably not Saved, he is doing drugs and having a homosexual relationship. But then again the attacker isn't Saved either. If you shoot the attacker you send him to hell! If he kills your nephew, he sends your nephew to hell. Should you pray for Gods guidance and forgiveness and pull the trigger?
But, pastors, what about question three? I know what I would do, or at least I think I do. But what you should or shouldn't do, I can not say. But I will say this, if in that prayer meeting you have one or two that have not accepted the Lord yet and been Born Again or if you have a few you're not sure about, you might want to consider doing something. For if they are killed before accepting the Lord, then Satan gets their souls for all eternity.
The bottom line is this. When you pull the trigger, you are not only killing that person, you are probably sending them straight to hell. For the chances of a Born Again Christian doing the attacking is almost non existent.
But, keep in mind this, your pulling the trigger is not a salvation issue for your soul, not if you are Born Again.
For the Lord Himself has told us:

28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:
29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:
All sins include the use of a gun to end the life of one while saving or defending the life of another.
Fixed it.
Putting your finger on the trigger and making your pistol "vomit" usually gets results, too!
