A Georgia man was arrested for murder after he allegedly shot and killed a motorcyclist who he said was following his teenage daughters home from a Target store, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Richard Harold Gear's two daughters, ages 17 and 19, called their 45-year-old father from their cell phones to tell him they were being followed, the paper reported.

When they got home their father was at the end of their driveway with a pistol, police told the newspaper.

“guy on motorcycle is too enraged or stupid to take a hint- and makes a 2nd fatal pass of the drive way with the Dad with the gun.”

...the second pass may have just been him turning around to go home. If he was enraged, as you say, he would have followed them up the driveway.

Atlanta Journal Constitution: “semiautomatic gun two or three times, hitting Mough once in the back, Berry said.”

mcshot: “Being very protective of my daughters and the guy circles back suggests he plans to endanger them - I intercede.”

What if he turned around to go home, are you going to shoot him in the back as he rides away like this guy did? This guy is going to spend much of the rest of his life in prison. His daughters are going to grow up, get married, and have children without him around. Doesn’t sound like a very good dad to me.

” They made a hasty retreat when they heard gunshots and realized they were getting shot at.”

Maybe wandered onto someone’s pot growing operation.

Way back when I was young and foolish (as opposed to old and foolish now), late one evening I blitzed down a small town boulevard on my ‘rocket’ much faster than the posted speed limit. One driver (upstanding citizen that he was) became so offended and outraged by this stunt he chased me for five miles, trying to run me off the road. I broke every law in the book trying to elude this guy, while he did the same trying to catch me. Though he didn’t succeed, I’ve thought of that moment often since then . . .

My second bike was a green Honda SL125. Those were the days . . .

This story just reeks of white trash stupidity all the way around.

Yeah, two stupid people -biker & Dad. Biker dead & Dad in jail for life. I sure wouldn't want to be Dad in the Big House. There will be some ex-bikers there who will not be happy with this story.

>>When they got home their congenitally stupid father was at the end of their driveway with a pistol, police told the newspaper.<<

A country song my old band did:

What Was I Thinking, by Dirks Bently

Becky was a beauty from South Alabama
Her Daddy had a hard lock and nine pound hammer
Think He even did a little time in the slammer
What was I thinking?
She snuck out one night and met me by the front gate
Her daddy came out waving that twelve gage
We tore out the drive, he peppered my tailgate
What was I thinking?

Oh I knew there’d be Hell to pay,
But that crossed my mind a little too late!

Chorus
Cuz I was thinking ‘bout a little white tank top sitting right there in the middle by me
I was thinking about a long kiss man just gotta get goin’ where the night might lead
Well I know what I was feeling But What was I thinking?
But What was I thinking?

What was I thinking?

By the county line the cops were nipping on our heels
Pulled off the road kicked it to 4 wheel
Shut off the lights, tore through a corn field
What was I thinking?
Out the other side she was hollerin’ “Faster!”
Took the third road had the radio blastin’
Hit the Honky Tonk for a little close dancin’
What was I thinking?

Oh I knew there’d be Hell to pay,
But that crossed my mind a little too late!

Chorus

When a mountain of a man with a “Born to Kill” tattoo
tried to cut in I knocked out his front tooth
Ran outside hood sliding like Beau Duke
What was I thinking?
I finally got her home half past too late
Her daddy’s in a lawn chair sittin’ in the driveway
Put it in park as he started my way,
What was I thinking?

Oh What was I thinking?
Oh What was I thinking?

And she gave a come and get me grin,
And like a bullet we were gone again!

Chorus

What was I thinking?

I love that song. A lot of fun bass lines.

If it happened right outside of his house, it’s not really a CCW issue. But I take your point about this hothead.

>>Why would you have to follow them home to report them to the police?...<<

It’s what I would do. I certainly would not just let them drive off without following them to their destination.

Well, I don’t know the circumstances, so I won’t pass judgment, but I had someone follow me home one night when I got off of work at midnight. I lived in a fairly rural area and the guy kept tailgating me. I pulled over to let him pass me and he stopped. I hurried on and he kept right behind me. This went on for miles. I was terrified.

I was too stupid to think of driving right to the police, but instead drove to my apartment. He blocked my car so I could not get out. I locked all the doors and laid on the horn until the apartment manager came out and called the police. He took off. This was before we all had cell phones. I was shook to the core.

He made one pass and was leaving the way he came, hence the 2d pass.

Maybe, but if so, he suffered from terminal stupidity. I certainly wouldn't be going back by the house. Especially on a motorcycle, which opens open more pathways to get out of almost anywhere. Of course there are cul-de-sacs with fences between the houses that would be rather difficult to get out of.

FOLLOWED THEM HOME! That’s tantamount to stalking, in fact it IS stalking! and in this case 'suicidal'....I don't have good thoughts about his 'beneficiaries' collecting on his life insurance policy. Regardless of the outcome of the 'criminal trial' above, the ensuing civil trial where beneficiaries try to collect, stalker's insurance company has a case not to pay!
