Some Atlanta police welcome law that allows seizure of illegal immigrants' cars
Atlanta Journal and Constitution ^ | 02/29/08 | MARY LOU PICKEL

A proposal that would allow police to seize vehicles from illegal immigrants could help remove egregious drivers from the roads, some metro police say.

"I think it has the possibility of being a good thing," said DeKalb County Police Department spokesman Officer J.T. Ware. The seizure powers might be best used to focus on habitual traffic offenders, he said.

The proposed law, House Bill 978, was approved by the state House of representatives this week. It still must pass the senate. The measure would allow police to seize cars of illegal immigrants who are involved in accidents or violate traffic laws.

Didn't see this posted. I'm not real good with search. But be sure to read the articles that are linked at the bottom of article. Maybe Georgia is trying. Anything is better than nothing.

“Some” Atlanta police? Are the others in open revolt against the local government?

Hmmm ~ means these junkers get hauled away for free. They'll pick up on buying them back at the auctions.

As a practical matter this will turn into a subsidy of, if not a civil right, for illegal aliens.

Sorry, but does anyone here really think that vehicle seizures have anything to do with anything but profit for the seizers?

I get what you mean, but “subsidy” is not the word you’re looking for.

This law would have come in handy when an illegal driving a construction company van hit my daughter’s car. If the company lost the van and all the tools, maybe they would think twice about hiring illegals in the first place.

Wouldn't help much in the Upper Midwest. Not enough traction in the snow.

now to that list, the fence could become irrelevant if we add:

seize drugs
seize pets
seize pension
seize money
seize stocks & bonds
seize id cards, licenses, etc
seize boats
seize homes
seize ....see the pattern!

Yeah, subsidy. Taxpayers will pay to haul away the wreck.

This should be a federal law, starting Monday.

And the sale of the car will recoup the cost (in most cases). Not a subsidy.

I can't imagine how anyone can think the towing of an operable motor vehicle as a function of law enforcement is a "subsidy" because an illegal alien may purchase the vehicle later.

The Feds are leaving it up to state and local governments to take care of this illegal alien invasion.

I missed the part where they send them back to their country of origin. Fine, take their cars, but send them back to where they belong. The authorities may take their car, “if they do something illegal”. If we have any remaining sovereignty or a scintilla of respect for our own laws, they are already doing something illegal by being here.

We have been sold out, pure and simple. Whatever segment of the population wasn’t ignorant, was apathetic. What it means is 20-30 million more citizens that were above the law and could not be burdened with process or rule of law. Then, the rush for the border with 20-30 million more pouring across unsecured borders. Then the fit will hit the shan, but you can’t turn back time. The avalanche started years ago and many ignored it because they weren’t being buried and lacked the foresight to imagine a day when they would.

As you stated, at least Georgia is trying but I think we need to demand that our leaders do more than “try” and quit playing footsies with illegal invaders.

Because, otherwise, the illegal alien would have to pay to tow his own car away. Not likely you are going to get him to pay to tow YOUR car away eh?!

Not only should they seize their illegally driven vehicles, they should auction them off and use the proceeds to pay for a one way bus or plane ride from which they came.

Here in California we have strict smog standards for our cars. If a car can’t pass the smog test you can’t renew your registration or sell it, it becomes near useless. The Invaders buy them up, get counterfeit registration and the cars are disposable.

This must be a good law because Archbishop Gregory and Bishop Boland oppose it!

These 2 clergy are strong proponents of protecting illegal aliens who commit violation of the laws!
