House Rewards Chavez For Not Producing Oil
Heritage ^ | February 28th 2008 | Heritage

American Leadership, Energy and Environment. We know liberals in Congress are sympathetic to Hugo Chavez leftist agenda, but cutting him a tax break is a little over the line. Yesterday, the House passed an energy bill that raised taxes on American oil and gas companies. Notice the emphasis on ‘American.’ What should surprise everyone is that Citgo, Chavez’ personal ATM that operates in the U.S., is still getting a 6 percent tax break for domestic manufacturing that Exxon, Chevron, BP, Conoco-Phillips and Shell will all loose. How is this possible?

The House figures that since Petroleos de Venezuela, doesn’t actually produce any oil and gas in the U.S, they just refine and distribute it, they shouldn’t have to face the punitive taxation that the House wants to inflict on U.S. oil producers. So just at a time when oil is reaching over $100 a barrel liberals want to decrease domestic production and give Chavez a financial leg up on his U.S. competitors. All this so the House can pat itself on the back for “doing something” about global warming.

Another story . . . http://www.investors.com/editorial/editorialcontent.asp?secid=1501&status=article&id=289181621989466

This is why liberals are so dangerous. I gaurantee Chavez is sending money at least a few of these numbskulls.

They've been rewarding diaries for not producing milk for decades now. That's why a gallon of milk still costs more than a gallon of gas. But probably not for long...

I sort of understand subsidizing American farmers, although I don't agree with it. But, these 2-bit foreign, US hating tyrants? Come on!

I really don't understand people having temper tantrums over McCain, when we are faced with a potential president that is far worse than Jimmy Carter, except to his credit, much more charming. Still much more dangerous.

But don't anyone here try to purchase a few cartons of cigarettes through the internet from another country without paying taxes.

“I gaurantee Chavez is sending money at least a few of these numbskulls.”

Of course he is and they are taking it the same way McCain takes money from the KLA. Now, does it make it worse that its Democrats taking money from Chavez than McCain from Mohammedan terrorists? Or for that matter, that man Bush giving our money to Mohammedan terrorists? Do you think maybe we have a problem with our government that has nothing to do with party that perhaps we ought to begin thinking about fixing?

Its hard to believe that the Heritage foundation could be this stupid so I have to assume they are being dishonest.

This is terrible bill because it wastes 17 billion dollars on inefficient energy processes that don’t produce enough to pay for themselves.

But congress didn’t exempt Citgo from new taxes because they cannot politically pass any taxes. They dropped tax incentives which Citgo wasn’t getting in the first place.

By all means congress deserves criticism.

And we should oppose Chavez and Citgo. Personally I boycott Citgo and I’d do more given the chance.

But both the criticism and the opposition need to be honest.

What really burns me is that we are spending billions on corn ethanol which has been shown to take at least as much energy to make as it creates, when we could be getting cheap & plentiful sugar cane ethanol from Brazil, which just happens to be a democracy and an ally of the US.

But noooooooooo...., there is a powerful agribusiness lobby in the US that insists on putting a 100% tax on Brazilian ethanol while giving little tin-pan dictators a tax break. Meanwhile, the rest of our oil comes from nations that would happily slit our throat if they had the chance.

What about drilling in Alaska? What about building refineries? This is a serious issue, and democrats have consistently sided with our enemies. I honestly haven’t seen that behavior from McCain other than hearsay. Not only are Democrats hurting Americans, they are hurting Latin America, which makes our immigration problem worse. Those who feel that illegal immigration is a priority, need to understand this.

I noticed gas is unbelievably high the past few days. I thought at first it was the refinery that blew up, but probably some of it is the tax increase.

I wonder how people don’t get it. If you raise taxes on the oil companies, it increases the price of gas. It’s amazing how dense people are.

You are absolutely right on the the drilling & refinery issue. The US has over 2 trillion barrels of recoverable oil just in the tar sands of western Colorado, which can be profitably recovered if the cost of oil is greater than $40/barrel. Stupid enviros have no grasp of reality and their perverted visions and fantasies should be despised by all rational people.

Let’s see if the Republicans have the stones to make this an issue.

I have my doubts.
