Much like the founding fathers, the writings of Locke, Rousseau and Adams have effected my brain. I have a healthy disdain for authoritah. I do know when to back off and how to harness it though.

Getting beyond that, it really isn't only about contests of human authority as much as it is healthy order vs. many different kinds of abuse.

It was in search of a better order that led Adams, Jefferson and the lot to look into principles of the Bible, of Algernon Sidney as much or more then Locke, of Blackstone's legal theories, and of the foment of their many elders, especially but not limited to the clergy, who saw their natural, Mayflower Compact-catalyzed, God-honoring, order of peers abrogated by a foreign king and his hierarchy.

(Rousseau was so nutty in his Utopian idealization of mankind that even he repented of his own theories.)

BTW, it is natural for an order-of-peers to have those "community standards" of appropriate behavioral cause and effect.
