More than a thousand pages covering pardons granted by former president Bill Clinton during his final days in office have been withheld from the public.
Archivists at the Clinton Presidential Library decided to keep the papers out of a larger batch recently released because they covered confidential discussions with advisers.
Included in the more than 2800 documents that have been made public, letters in support of fugitive financier Marc Rich and his partner, both of whom were pardoned by Clinton.
The delays by the library in releasing documents have led to sharp criticism of Clinton and former first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton.
A spokeswoman for the National Archives, which runs the library, now says they may have misinterpreted a 2002 letter from the former president in which he left instructions on which pardon documents should be made public.

Don’t all Presidents withhold advice documents so Presidents can continue to get confidential advice. Its makes it pretty much impossible to tell when its being used for coverup.
Like Dick Cheney’s energy meetings. I’m sure Dems would love to correlate with that with the way energy tripled in cost but there is broad precedent.
Surprise, surprise, surprise!!!!
NOT!

Susan Cooper, a spokeswoman for the National Archives, which runs the library, said Friday that the federal agency may have misinterpreted Clinton’s instructions in a 2002 letter to the Archives on his presidential records when deciding what pardon documents to release.
“We had been interpreting the easing letter president Clinton wrote in a particular way and were interpreting it very conservatively,” Cooper said. “We then discovered in the course of conversations with (Clinton adviser Bruce Lindsey) that the president’s desire was to interpret the easing letter less conservatively and more openly. ... It is for that reason there was more material withheld in this pardon material than we would have if we had been reviewing this stuff later.”
Cooper said archivists don’t have any immediate plans to revisit the pardon records to determine whether additional papers should be made public because doing so would delay the release of other records. The library is expected to release 10,000 pages of Hillary Clinton’s schedules as first lady later this month.
“We’re serving several masters at the same time. If we do that and look at all of the materials we’ve released so far, we’re not going to get anything new out,” Cooper said. “What that means is Mrs. Clinton’s schedules would not be out on time and whatever is next in the queue would not be attended to.”
On his last day in office, President Clinton granted 140 pardons and 36 commutations, many of them controversial. The documents released include dozens of letters Clinton and his advisers received in the months before he left office advocating pardons for Rich and others.
Rich had fled the country after being indicted for tax evasion. His ex-wife, Denise Rich, had contributed $450,000 to the Clinton library and more than $1.1 million to the Democratic Party.

Since she was co-president, links her time in the WH to the “35 years” she has given to public service, and claims to have had extensive government and foreign affairs experience, etc., why shouldn’t her appointment books be released? I have no illusions .. they’re controlling ALL of this.
His advice from counselors = yes, but she was the unelected first person. Why should her papers be covered under that privilege?
YICK!
do I really have to say it???
Sure, but no other president’s wife has run for president herself. She wants to rewrite the rules, so fine.. let’s rewrite ‘em.
Ask Web about his pardon, oh yea, he didn’t get one.
>>His advice from counselors = yes, but she was the unelected first person. Why should her papers be covered under that privilege?<<
I didn’t realize they were papers that didn’t relate to advice to the President - you’re right that would be different if it was advice to the first lady only.
>>Sure, but no other presidents wife has run for president herself. She wants to rewrite the rules, so fine.. lets rewrite em.<<
Yes if it doesn’t relate to Presidential advice that’s different.
Her appointment books alone = >>>>>>>> Obama’s, McCain’s g*o*l*d
LOL ..
Hillary did not pardon anyone, Bill did. She will always, much to her chagrin, carry the weight of the decisions HER HUSBAND made, during her attempt to be the Democratic nominee.
Both she and Obama are involved through public record with those named in the trials of "fund-raisers gone bad". Obama has Rezko present day, Clinton has Peter L. Paul/Clinton where she was supposed to testify (April should tell us more).
This will make McCain, by process of elimination, look like the only honest one running, not tied to any illegal activity of any kind.
The press last week ran 69 stories hitting hard at Obama. The others, for the first time, escaped the media wrath.
I will tell you one thing I find extremely odd. Obama seems to have protected himself from being photographed with people that have come out of his background. Clinton was recently shown with Rezko 17 years ago in a photo that suddenly appeared on Drudge from an unknown source and right into Wikipedia right after. No pictures (except Photoshop ) of Obama at dinners, events--? If you are in the public eye, should be pictures of you with "friends" oall over the society pages/news/politics.
The Honey Moon is over for Obama. The Honey Moon was "publicly" over for the Clintons a long time ago.
After Monica in the Oval Office, Bil Clinton is still respected by many...
Don't get your hopes up in a country of disillusioned sheeple.
She also wants to re-write the DNC rules for the Michigan and Florida primaries. She wanted to rewrite the Texas Caucus rules because she does not do well in them. She probably will want to rewrite the Declaration of Independence and Constitution, and maybe the National Anthem.
The Clinton legacy is that they will never anywhere at anytime by anyone be held accountable for their crimes.
So did Bubba when he gave her private sax lessons.
so’d the bent one.
excellent timing!
I personally broke a story about Clinton granting North Carolina Auto Dealer and NASCAR Team owner Rick Hendrick a pardon shortly after Hendrick’s friend Hugh McColl, Jr. shortly after McColl made a huge contribution to Bill Clinton’s library. Hendrick served on the Board of Directors for friend and then CEO Hugh McColl at NationsBank — now Bank of America.
This was then investigated by Congressman Dan Burton’s House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. I turned over all my evidence to the investigators.
The story was picked up from here within minutes by Rita Cosby, then at Fox News.
Thank you for your efforts.
The Clinton White House was mostly a payoff
turnstile, and we’ll be paying for it for
decades yet to come.
Here’s the FReeper article about that
particular greasy deal.

I was always under the impression that Hugh
McColl was a man of high character. How wrong
I was. Imagine how many stories there are.
I know .. I’m a blooming optimist, but
for the last couple of months, I’ve been
saying that the whole election scenario
could change .. there’s too much time.
And, who would’ve predicted the mess the
Rats have now .. too cute by half they
thought, huh? Now ..it’s scorched earth
for THEM. woohoo!
I’m still sayin’: there’s too much time
left .. too many things will yet happen,
and I know and have faith that God is in
charge.
I just know it’s not gonna be boring. ;)
misinformed alright... 8^)
Indeed.
Makes me nauseous. This is how I used to feel in the 90's.
I hear ya. But if she wants to inflict herself upon us, which she obviously does, and it forces Slick to pay a different price than other former presidents? I’m fine with that. That’s all I’m saying.
Well, there's a shocker!
I wonder if FOI lawsuit could get this out soon. Paging Mark Levin, Judicial Watch, et al.
IIRC, Clinton's "good friend and partner" McDougall received the old "Withheld Medication Dixie Pardon", while Clinton was boinking McDougall's wife.
True.
But he pardoned four Hasidic swindlers in return for votes for his wife (New Square.
So she benefited from his malfeasance.
Maybe he should not do her any favors, as it has hurt her 100 fold over, definitely more than helped. It's like saying: With Friends (of Bill's) Like These, Who Needs Enemies?
Thanks for the ping!
The saga has no end ...
The clintons are like a tornado, everyone's lives who are touched by them are left in a trail of devastation behind them, both friend and foe.
How does a former President get to dictate to the National Library on what docments may and may not be made public? Who appointed him to write their policies?
Have faith my friend.
Everyone will be judged some day.
I know, but sometimes I entertain thoughts of earthly justice.
If Obama is the Messiah they say he is. He should have a hundred thousand people march on the Clinton library and hod it under seige until the documents are released!
What does any of it matter? Why even bother starting this thread? They can do anything they want and get away with it, just as they always have. We whine and whine about it-and then-we reward them and keep them alive politically. America had its one fleeting chance to be free of the swine forever last Tuesday, and what seemed like half the FReepers in Texas and Ohio crossed over and voted for these scum, after listening to the ‘brilliant strategy’ of ‘conservative’ talk show hosts who want to sell more books. Get ready for eight more years. All because a lot of people apparently forgot the first eight-or how they always land on their feet.
You mean the same Mark Levin who told people to vote for them last week?
This will make McCain, by process of elimination, look like the only honest one running, not tied to any illegal activity of any kind.....Yes, the Keating Five will, again, be overlooked at our expense.
I bet billionaire crooks everywhere are salivating at the thought of her becoming president.
As far as I’m concerned, the jury’s still out on that tactic. That said, I’m fundamentally against such tactics and IMO the parties should take steps to eliminate them.
His friends contributed $56,000 for Senator McCain's two House races in 1982 and 1984, and $54,000 for his 1986 Senate race. Didn't cost us a dime, in fact probably saved us money/airplane trip ;)
Senate Select Committee on Ethics concluded: "The Committee concludes that Senator McCain's actions were not improper nor attended with gross negligence and did not reach the level of requiring institutional action against him. The Committee finds that Senator McCain took no further action after the April 9, 1987 meeting when he learned of a criminal referral. "
"The Committee reaffirms its prior decision that it does not have jurisdiction to determine the issues of disclosure or reimbursement pertaining to flights provided by American Continental Corporation while Senator McCain was a Member of the House of Representatives. The Committee did consider the effect of such on his state of mind and judgment in taking steps to assist Lincoln.
"Senator McCain has violated no law of the United States or specific Rule of the United States Senate; therefore, the Committee concludes that no further action is warranted with respect to Senator McCain on the matters investigated during the preliminary inquiry."
Investigation fini. Clinton/Peter Paul and Obama/Rezko, however present day media illegal fund raising attention more likely to take precedent.
Old Alumni vs the New Pledgie: Barack "Barry" Hussein Obama, Jr., #23.
bttt
There’s a lot of dirt on her that’s been witheld. Remember a while back the Barrett (or was it the Burnett) Report that she had kept under wraps? I wonder if that was ever released. She also held back her college thesis.
PLUS, Hillary;s two fat, CROOKED brothers each got $200,000 for pardons for other criminals!!!!! The RODHAMS are the WORST family ever in politics!!
