Gore-Obama ‘08 — the GOP Nightmare Scenario
Patterico's Pontifications ^ | March 07, 2008 | Staff

Posted on 03/08/2008 10:32:06 AM PST by jdm

This is the nightmare scenario that wakes me up at night.  And its so easy to see it develop.

Hillary wins big in Penn and PR, while Obama continues to sweep up some smaller states.  Neither is close to the majority number, but Hillary refuses to give in.

More and more polling begins to suggest — as Pew does today — that Obama will lose a significant number of blue collar “Archie Bunker” democrats that are currently supporting Hillary, but will vote for McCain before Obama.  This will give McCain states like Ohio, Michigan, and Penn.

Superdelegate/party leaders will know that they cannot alienate African-American voters by stealing the nomination away from Obama that he seems to have won, so voting for Hillary when she is behind in vote total and elected delegates is not an option.

Above and beyond that, they really just don’t want a rerun of the Billary Show in the WH.

Obama cannot put together an electoral map in November that produces a winning number.

Solution — go to Obama and ask him to take the No. 2 slot with Al Gore as the nominee.  Obama then releases his delegates to vote for Gore after the Superdelegates place his name in nomination.

Gore then wins the nomination on the first ballot, and the Billary vampire is slain.

The African-American voter is satisfied because Obama is satisfied to be No. 2 behind Gore while he waits his turn.

Gore holds on to the “Archie Bunker” democrats that are backing Hillary right now.

Gore rolls to a 52-48 win over McCain with 350 electoral votes, winning states like Virginia, Ohio, Missouri, NewHampshire, and maybe even Florida, while holding on to everything he and Kerry won before.

Just from a historical perspective...has there even been a candidate nominated to run for President who wasn’t running during the primaries?
_________

Plenty, although the most recent was Humphrey in 1968

Pat, Pat, Pat...if Obama isn't going to be back-of-the-bus to Hillary, what makes you think he's going to be back-of-the-bus to some fat bastard who didn't even run?

Al Gore has one campaign plank, that of global warming, err, I mean global climate change. And as any Freeper will tell you, so does John McCain.

Obama worshipers will view it as betrayal and walk, the hard core liberals will once again (just like in 2000) beat Gore upside the head for his Oxy connections, and it would be a disaster for the party.

An open ballot at the convention will not happen.

At which point the McCain camp dusts off the speech Gore made in Saudi Arabia in 2004. in front of a Arab audience of Oil Sheiks, claiming Muslims were tortured in the US after 09-11 and starts making campaigns ads showing Gore's speech.

Suddenly all those Archie Bunker voters in all those blue states turn into rabid McCain Democrats.

Gore in 2000 wore the “New Democrat” mask. Since then that moderate mask has been stripped away to reveal, for the 1st time, Gores truth face. Gore shares the samet seething ugly rabid Anti Americanism that is the common character trait all the current leadership of the Democrat Party carefully try to hide from the Archie Bunker voters

It seems to me the Dems are full of wishful thinking. Obama should get the nomination barring it being stolen from him. He then picks a young white guy for his VP and loses handily to McCain.

The Dems are just starting to get buyers remorse. They thought they were cool with the only black and only woman candidate. The problem is that the black guy is actually winning. They thought Hillary would be their gal and Obama could give a nice speech at the convention. Now they want to give him, the winner, the VP slot.

Once again the Dems show their true colors, or lack of them. The fact is Obama is winning and will probably win it all. He will also lose to McCain.

...and Pat, my impression was that “nightmare” meant “scary”. Gore-Obama ‘08 is more of a “wow, what a silly dream, no more spicy food before bedtime” scenario.

I think the way the Dems will handle getting Hillary off the ticket is to make Obama promise to give her the first Supreme Court seat that comes up.

I believe Hubert Humphrey in 1968 was the Democrat nominee, as he was picked at the temultuous convention in Chicago that year. He ran in no primaries anywhere in the nation.

If memory serves. I was in junior high then, and the details of all of that meant nothing to me at the time.

Should point out in 1968 Humphery won because the Democrat's winning candidate Robert Kennedy had been assassinated during the campaign.

Rice's absurd statements regarding Bosnia, along with several other gaffes should disqualify her. They have revealed her to be seriously lacking.

OBama would take the nomination and lose rather than do that. He would also rather Hillary get the nomination, her lose in Nov then run again in 2012 than do that.

Dumbest theory ever.

Amen! He was probably getting campaign "contributions" from Osama.

68 was sort of a special circumstance, with President Johnson pulling out of the race late, as well as the assassination of one of the leading contenders.

But it also happened in 1940, Wilkie was nominated without campaigning in the primaries, and I don’t believe that FDR competed that year and didn’t declare until quite late.

It is the height of arrogance and presumption for Hillary to allow that she would be willing to “consider” Obama as her VP, when she is running behind in the delegates and popular vote.

If Obama maintains his lead going into the convention, there is no way he will yield to Her Majesty without a bitter fight that would massively alienate blacks, who would rightly see it as the “man” once again putting them in their place. The powers that be are well aware of this.

Likewise, there is little chance Obama will consider Hillary as VP under all but the most dire of circumstances. Letting her & Bill back into the White House would be suicidal. He’d be looking over his shoulder the whole time knowing that they, for their part, would do their very best to elevate the office of Vice President over that of President.

One thing is virtually certain: Hillary & Bill will not hesitate to cause a no-holds-barred, knock down drag out fight at the convention in order to prevail. There are powerful forces arraigned on either side of this battle, and it will be very interesting to see how it plays out.

McCain will be a great candidate who is nasty enough to beat the hell out of Gore.

No dem will be able to overcome McCain’s pow experience and his various differences with so called conservatives will only help him get the archie bunker votes.

Gore’s nutty global warming ideas will be under the microscope for the first time and the outcome will be him looking inept, naive and lost.

I predicted the racist democrat party would NEVER allow a black man to be president.

It would upset the imbalance of power.

Blacks are NOT going to allow Hillary through “super delegates” or Al Gore to step in front of Obama without burning the DNC to the ground.

That fact is why I recently purchased a commercial popcorn popper.

There is a chance that blacks in America will awaken to their enslavers, revolt and reaffiliate with conservatives who have been there for them throughout their manufactured “struggle”.

Rice isn’t the President.

As Secretary of State, she speaks for Bush.

That’s her job. She’s pretty darn good at it.

Relax.

(1) Hillary is not about to step aside and let Al Gore have the nomination. And the Democrats know it. The lawsuits alone would keep them all tied up for the rest of their lives. And don't forget all their FBI files!

(2) Why would Obama step aside for Gore any more than for Hillary? He wouldn't. And Black America wouldn't consider it any less a back-room sellout than if he were forced to step aside for Hillary.

(3) Make no mistake--millions of Democrats LOVE the Clintons and would LOVE to see them re-ensconced in the White House, with Bill doing his (charming, to them) usual number and Hillary doing (charmingly, to them) hers. They have no desire to see Bill and Hill disappear from the political scene. Au contraire, to them Bill was one of America's greatest Presidents and Hillary is a strong woman destined to be another.

(4) Nominating Obama for Vice President is not going to please a bunch of Archie Bunkers much more than nominating him for President.

(5) And anything or anybody that has to look to Al Gore for salvation is already lost. They'd do better to nominate Connie Chung.

Now get some sleep.

Yeah, 1968 Chicago...wasn’t that the convention that resulted in massive rioting.
