Clinton's Hawkishness Ruffles Feathers in Obama Camp
The New York Sun ^ | March 4, 2008 | ELI LAKE Staff Reporter of the Sun

Mr. Keane nevertheless said he holds the former first lady in high esteem.

"Senator Clinton is very knowledgeable about national security and is probably going to be strong on defense," he said. "I have no doubts whatsoever that if she were president in January '09 she would not act irresponsibly and issue orders to conduct an immediate withdrawal from Iraq, regardless of the consequences, and squander the gains that have been made." Mr. Keane added that he could not imagine any president in the White House making that kind of decision.

The senator's campaign differed with that assessment. "Senator Clinton speaks for herself on her plans to end the Iraq war," the campaign's communication director, Howard Wolfson, said Sunday. "She has said she will end the war the right way, swiftly and responsibly, and beginning within 60 days of taking office."

Indeed, Mrs. Clinton's Web site features her plan to "begin ending this war — not next year, not next month — but today." She has pledged to call together her military and national security team to draw up plans to "bring our troops home starting with the first 60 days of her Administration."

Throughout 2007, Mrs. Clinton has sought to distance herself from her vote in 2002 to authorize the use of force in Iraq, a resolution that she says was intended to create leverage for negotiations with Iraq at the U.N. Security Council, but was widely considered by almost all other observers as a resolution authorizing the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

From page 1 of the NYSun article:

Clinton's Hawkishness Ruffles Feathers in Obama Camp

**********************EXCERPT***********************

In a weekend interview, a retired four-star general, Jack Keane, said that when he briefed Mrs. Clinton in late 2006 and January 2007 on the counteroffensive strategy known as the surge, she "generally supported the surge strategy in the sense she wanted it to succeed but she was skeptical about its chances."

The Obama campaign yesterday seized on the general's comments after they appeared in an article on The New York Sun's Web site, with the chief spokesman, William Burton, issuing a statement saying: "Senator Clinton needs to explain to the American people what she said to the architect of George Bush's surge that made him think she wouldn't end the war."

Mr. Keane is in a position to know Mrs. Clinton, having worked informally with her since 2001, when he was vice chief of staff for the Army

Me thinks Obama wouldn’t pull the troops out either

What he says and what he will do are two different things

He is already hedging his rhetoric

I am surprised the antiwar loonies haven’t started in on him about it

Join us in the streets of Denver as we resist a two-party system that allows imperialism and racism to continue unrestrained.

Oh, please, please, please, do it!

Michelle Obama can lead you.

Show America how you really feel.

Actually, if Obama loses out on the democrat nomination or doesn't win the Presidency in November I fully expect to see blacks back wilding in the streets, burning and looting again.

Will 2008 be like Chicago, 1968?

Or like Detroit, 1967?

Or like Watts, 1965?

Unfortunately Wm F Buckley Jr just died so he won't be around to threaten to punch Gore Vidall in his GD mouth on TV like he did during the 68 convention

A President H.R. Clinton would never withdraw a single solider from Iraq. Obama would withdraw the troops and leave a disastrous vacuum in the region. That is why he is far more dangerous.

I believe more each day that Denver 2008 is going to be a lot like Chicago 1968.

We are close to getting into some deep do do, if the demorats take over. As you can ably surmise, what's the difference in starting troop withdraws immediately or waiting sixty days.
Maliki, assuming he actually is for a united Iraq not just controlled by the Shiite had better get his ass in high gear and start reasoning with all the various divides in their parliment to do some serious getting together.
Soon they shall have to give solid evidence Iraq will only get better from any stretch of the imagineation, e.g. no excuse for any L/MSM to make it look like they are not worth staying in country for another year plus, or the demos just may take over next January. And of course McCain must somehow prove to a majority of American voters he is the best choice to make sure we can leave the mid east at a best calculated time. There are to many real idiots who go to the voting polls that have not the slightest clue as to what it would take to withdraw all our forces, only to restart from scratch should the mid east go bonzai.

She will draw up plans within “60 days of taking office.”

Plans would be normal procedure in any case and imply no direction. She, or Obama - both forbid - would assume full executive control of the security land defense of this nation on 21 January 2009.

In truth, she is far better qualified than Obama to be commander-in-chief.

She would at least defend the nation whereas Obama and Michelle, in concert with Soros and MoveOn, would just muse of the “just deserts” of its destruction along with its 300 million citizens.

Mr. Keane nevertheless said he holds the former first lady in high esteem.
"You know, even though she's a monster," Keane said.
"I have no doubts whatsoever that if she were president in January '09 she would not act irresponsibly and issue orders to conduct an immediate withdrawal from Iraq, regardless of the consequences, and squander the gains that have been made."
In the middle of answering the question, Keane turned to a companion and said, "Don't bogart that!"
The senator's campaign differed with that assessment. "Senator Clinton speaks for herself on her plans to end the Iraq war," the campaign's communication director, Howard Wolfson, said Sunday. "She has said she will end the war the right way, swiftly and responsibly, and beginning within 60 days of taking office." She has pledged to call together her military and national security team to draw up plans to "bring our troops home starting with the first 60 days of her Administration."
Let's see... by the time the next President is sworn in, AQ in Iraq will be dead, the shootings, beheadings, and bombings will be a thing of the past, and US troops will have pulled down the mullahcracy in Iran. Authorization for that will be, what, opposed by Hillary? We already know it will be opposed by the Moslem Senator from Illinois.
If it wasn't considered that, A) Hillary wouldn't have voted for it, as she supported it wholeheartedly, even mimicked President Bush's "if you're not for us, you're against us" (if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem), and B) it wouldn't have garnered broad bipartisan support (Kucinich voted against it). Thanks Ernest.
