When people offer themselves as candidates for high office they do NOT do so saying they are ordinary or compromised or likely to commit acts that “some of you will think are immoral and some won’t.”
They arrive with their impressive backgrounds and perfect families on parade, all the recommendations of not just rudimentary fitness for office but exceptional abilities and qualities.
This way of offering themselves becomes part and parcel of the Public Trust, one of those large phrases that underpin a democracy if it is to survive.
Just the proffer of their family alone, and then the subsequent violation OF their family, automatically cheapens the deal. You presented your LIFE to me but it came as part of a ruse—you used your standing and status to entice me, to persuade me, and your family was part of that presentation...
But you did not CARE about THEM, so why would I believe some phony baloney lying crap like the stuff Spitzer spewed today in his “press conference” in which the press was a total prop, but then so was his wife...?
A man who wants to have a wife, children, AND expensive whores should find a quiet lucrative business to run, not recommend himself as a Public Servant ready to do the business of an entire state. If nothing else, he is way too easily compromised in the shadows (to wit: the KGB habitually targeted such politicians during the Cold War) and is likely to start performing his tasks with an eye on his own proclivities, how to advance them and how to keep them hidden.
It’s especially dangerous when they are caught such as Spitzer was. As another FReeper sarcastically said elsewhere, if he only had some cruise missile that he could launch tomorrow he might wriggle off the hook. Perhaps Spitzer will come up with a more domestic-style distraction, something that is made to look like a “Real Public Policy Crisis,” and hope to shake free of the scandal that way.
People run for office knowing the score. They know that a sex scandal will at the very least dominate whatever their policy agenda will be. They know it will distract them to the point that their ability to do the public’s bidding will be severely undercut. They don’t recommend themselves based on their likelihood of having such a scandal, and no one ever DEMANDS (your word) that their candidate, once in office, start catting around with whores.
In fact, the demand of voters is generally that candidates adhere to the public trust. Really, it is not that demanding a thing to ask, but the supply seems to be getting shorter and shorter all the time.
Isn’t he the one that is suppose to be going after criminals? He is a lawyer and knows the law and broke it. Just because we don’t like a certain law or approve doesn’t make it ok to break the law. That is exactly what people are doing with immigration,illegals don’t care about U.S.Laws and the people who hire them don’t either. The Spits should have went to Nevada. Being married and never cheated on my husband I have no respect for anyone who cheats. Besides it’s not like a man has to go to a prostitute when so many women would have loved to have had sex with a nasty democrat.And he could have saved $5,000 bucks. Wow,lot of money for sex. The way it turned out he might be thinking it wasn’t worth it. I feel sorry for the family but not for him.

I’m just so glad this asshat will either resign, or be completely ineffective from this point forward. I’m so damn sick and tired of Eliot Spitzer’s moralizing, this essentially put a final end to it one way or another.

Well, that’s not the point with “Client Nine.” I’m so glad to see this schmuck caught with his pants down around his ankles.
However, feel free to work on legalizing prostitution should you desire to do so. I won’t be joining you in that one; too many aborted babies to save at the present for me to worry about what adults want to pay for...since they actually HAVE a choice to screw up their lives, having been allowed to live in the first place.
