“community service officer” - WTF is that?

I think it’s one of those folks who patrol the Walmart parking lot in the mini Jeep with the flashing yellow lights guarding the shopping carts.

The principle even acknowledged that but say zero-tolerance tied his hands.

Zero Tolerance = Zero common sense (IMHO as a public school employee).

So if the child was out of the car and and was running around and was further than 10 feet away from hes mother, that would be safer? Ridiculous!!!!! In fact, I argue if safety is the reason for the arrest, the child faced more danger of being kidnapped outside of the car than being locked in a car that was armed and to which the mother had the keys. This is just SO wrong!

I don’t leave my children to go into a store or a gas station ever or even to put my cart away, as I am very safety conscious. If anything, I’m a little on the paranoid side.

However, if the mom was really in view of the vehicle at all times and locked the car, I don’t see ANY problem with that. This officer completely overstepped his bounds, if this mom’s portrayal is accurate.

What morons. Hope the Crestwood Police have some fat in the budget, otherwise it’s “Layoff Time” after they payout this one.

And there are vast numbers of FReepers who can’t fathom why more and more people are bad-mouthing cops. Your Honor, I would like to introduce this as Defense Exhibit 1. Fire all of the idiots who have propagated this case forward, tar and feather them, confiscate their pensions and use them to pay all of this woman’s attorneys fees, and let her keep the change.

The poor woman.

I'm glad I no longer live in one of those towns/cities where so many are so concerned with the behaviour of others. Since we moved five years ago, I am away from this kind of nonsense. It's only a matter of time, however.

Not exactly sure what a CSO is, but I am certain that a job as a Parking Authority Cop represents a promotion for the CSO.

It's tragic if a child or person is harmed by the actions of another, but freedom is more important. People are supposed to think and be responsible, but freedom is more important.

People die every day and sometimes it's tragic or unfortunate, but freedom for the masses is more important than micro managing everyone's behavior.

Freedom is the most radical political idea in history. With freedom come risks and responsibilities, individual risks and responsibilities.

Is the child still alive and healthy? No damage done, no harm, nobody's business.

Too much malfeasance is committed today by the left wing socialist do gooder PC police for the sake of "the children". Children are not better off today. Too much of their lives are meddled with "for their own good".

An unintended consequence of child car seat laws. Granted, that applies more to accidents of children left cars. However, the point is that before we were all required to strap kids into car seats, it wasn’t feasible to leave little kids alone in the car.

As I have said many times before, if these requirements were in effect in the 1960’s and 1970’s, my parents wouldn’t have stood a chance.
