You’re welcome. I’m glad you are OK.

I was really surprised to hear that Atlanta didn’t have any air raid/tornado sirens. I hope they correct that ASAP. It would be a real shame to have loss of life due to not having one. Perhaps the City Gov’t should take this as a warning and purchase a few if they haven’t already this morning (I know they don’t work that fast, do they?).

How ironic. Earlier in the thread unspun, I think it was, mentioned that when the storm hit they were ridiculing Conservative Christians... I thought that was a little odd too (Cue more weird music...).

We were watching the game and it happened. Then we flipped over to the Weather Channel and CNN to see what the deal was since they are both in Atlanta aren’t they. TWC mentioned it, but I didn’t see it on CNN. Anderson Cooper was on.

I know that cities have been hit with them, I was speaking of Atlanta specifically.

Way back in the early morning hours March 10th 1975 I went into labor with my first son.

At 12:12 he was born and that same day about the same time a tornado hit the Governors Mansion north of Atlanta and several truly historical homes around it.

These tornadoes are not that unusual for the Atlanta surroundings area.

One summer we had just a thunder storm that sent my mid-west uncle under the kitchen table. Funniest thing I had ever seen, LOL

The blizzard of 1991/2? My best friend was to be buried the day the buzzard hit. Killed earlier in the week in a car accident.

Today they are burying my uncle whom was killed in a car wreck earlier this week.

Funny how we remember life attached to storms and/or such. I hear the storms here at my house now, I am betting the mountains break them up.

GODS Blessings and Peace to Atlanta.

Assume both of them are in S.East Atlanta?

The Dome, Phillips and CNN are considered as being SE Atlanta.

CDC is downtown Atlanta next to Emory.

Centennial Park is downtown Atlanta all most center.

They are all in Fulton County.

Grew up there and watched the whole city be built and what a shame it has become.

Heavy rain, thunder and lighting now in the tri-city area of western corner North Carolina, Tenn. and north Georgia boarders.

Oh and what a cool place to hang out as a kid.

It was the most fun place in the world as a teenager, boy can I tell some stories.

35 Year ago you could go downtown and just hang out at the hotels. Because they were brand new and we had never seen anything like it and they didn't care.

Go to sporting events without worrying about being shot.

Drive around and watch the hippies down the street from the Fox.

Go to the grant park zoo and it was FREE!

I’m very close to a emergency siren in Metro Atlanta and they do use the system as often as needed.

I’m curious - now that this has been officially declared a tornado, I wonder if there are insurance ramifications (wind damage might be covered under a normal insurance policy, but perhaps not tornado damage).

Typically insurance policies don't differentiate on wind/tornado damage like they do flood damage. If wind damages your property, whether it be a tornado, hurricane, or just straight line, you're typically covered.

The Dome, Phillips and CNN are considered as being SE Atlanta.

No, they aren't. While I'd call it downtown, the streets in the area carry a NW designation. I can see trying to call it SW (even though it technically isn't), but SE?

Centennial Park is downtown Atlanta all most center.

Centennial Park is near the old Terminal Station area from which Atlanta grew. The center of Atlanta has traditonally been considered 5 Points.

CDC is downtown Atlanta next to Emory.

Next to Emory I can buy as a description. They are no where near downtown Atlanta. Perhaps you are thinking of Downtown Decatur. (although that is still a couple of miles). "Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1600 Clifton Rd, Atlanta, GA 30333, U.S.A. http://www.cdc.gov/

They are all in Fulton County.

No, they aren't. Try Dekalb County for Emory and the CDC.

Grew up there

Know where 'Tight Squeeze' was? Spend a lot of time there?

Hey - just wanted to say thanks for pulling all that info together last night and today! Excellent reporting for an out of towner ;p For a while I thought you lived here!

Atlanta does actually have sirens. I work downtown about 6 blocks from CNN/Dome and have heard the sirens go off before.

The problem is that I believe nobody had any idea that this thing was forming. We had T-storm warnings in effect at the time, but not even a Tornado watch was active anywhere in the metro area. It literally came out of nowhere. They probably didn’t have time to sound the sirens.

Anyway, we are literally picking up the pieces here today. Everyone I know is okay, but a couple of friends reported some damage to me today. I am on-call for work, and so far nobody’s reported damage to the Bldg I work in, nor the bldg where all of our IT hardware is kept (both 6 blocks from where most of the damage is.) One of my company’s buildings was one of the *most* damaged bldg in town though (we have 3 bldgs downtown).

I didn’t remember the year of the tornado that hit the Paces Ferry area, but I did recall Busbee being governor at the time - he even took some pictures of the damage to the mansion that were printed in the Atl Constitution. Your date matches up with that.

Lets say it is all in a less than 10-15 miles apart and call it a job, less as the crow fly.

Know where ‘Tight Squeeze’ was? Spend a lot of time there?

Is the Tight Squeeze recent or old? Was it near the Mellow Mushroom? LOL

In my teenage years it was the Mad Hatter in Underground. It was legal to drink at 18. Later years OH LORD forgive me too many to list and many I want to forget.LOL

I grew up in Fairburn poor soutside of town girl. My family is all still there.
