Adolf Eichmann's list
Sunday Times ^ | Mar. 16, 2008 | Sarah Helm

It is one of the enduring mysteries of the second world war. More than 800 Jews based in this hospital in the middle of Nazi Berlin survived the war, seemingly — and bizarrely — protected by Adolf Eichmann, the architect of the Final Solution. So who were they and why were they saved?

Russian soldiers fighting their way through the rubble of Berlin in the last days of the war turned the corner of Iranische Strasse, in the district of Wedding, and came across an elegant building almost intact. Fanning out to search the structure, the Russians ransacked the place, room by room. Medical equipment and rows of beds showed that it had once been a hospital. Searching deep into the bowels of the building, the Russian liberators burst open cellar doors, and in the darkness made out hundreds of cowering figures – more than 800 people in all.

You have to love the Time's view of the Soviets as "liberators":

...the Russian liberators... The soldiers swept through in an orgy of rape. ...the city’s liberators.

That just about took my breath away. Then I started thinking that the deaths and the insanity starts when the state starts selecting and ordering people around by ethnicity and race... and concludes with this. I also thought about Obama’s preacher, and how his racism was accompanied by cheering parishoners and a smile on his face.

Thanks for posting this.

Well they did get there first, thanks to Ike incompetence.

It was not incompetence that caused Eisenhower to forsake Berlin. There had already been agreements before 1945 to establish zones of occupation in Germany; Eisenhower decided it was not worth American blood to take a city due to fall under Russian occupation.

Who could have managed the land war in Europe better than Eisenhower? Not Montgomery or Patton; not Bradley; and definitely not Clark. The only general who was a better manager in coalition warfare was Foch, and he was dead those 15 years.

I recently heard a talk given by a Holocaust survivor, who was a 13-year-old girl in a town in Lithuania when the Germans occupied her town. By good fortune she ended up in a labor camp rather than a death camp--still, 800 of the 1000 women sent there had died of starvation or disease when the Red Army suddenly appeared in their camp in March 1945. She had nothing negative to say about the Russians.

I don't doubt for a second that rapes and other atrocities were very widespread on the part of the Red Army, but it wasn't universal.

“Eisenhower decided it was not worth American blood to take a city due to fall under Russian occupation.”

What a bunch of BS - The germans would have gladly surrendered to Patton had Eisehower and Roosevelt not already decided to hold Patton back and give half of western civilizaition away to the communists.

Patton could have taken the last two nukes and saved us 50 years of cold war and whatever else Putin is going to do in Syria.

Eisenhower was a traitor.

You consider Romania, Bulgaria, etc. to be “western” countries? You can make the argument about Poland and Czechslovakia, but the other countries are more difficult to categorize.

Good God! Are you insane?

The communists who you seem to admire killed 100 million in the last century and Patton was the only one with the good sense to realize this.

The decision, as you have noted in your post, was beyond Eisenhower’s. It was Roosevelt’s. Calling Eisenhower a traitor indicates a severe ignorance of American history and is a slander on a good soldier.

Foch’s grave is in Paris in the same mausoleum as Napoleon. On top of his sarcophagus is statuary of eight French soldiers in WW1 field coats carrying a casket. Their heads are hung in grief. It is far more memorable than Napoleon’s tomb.

A picture is at wikipedia on the right side.

“You consider Romania, Bulgaria, etc. to be “western” countries?

Do you mean the countries that are just north of Greece from where western civilization emanated?

“Calling Eisenhower a traitor indicates a severe ignorance of American history and is a slander on a good soldier.”

Do you deny he held back Patton? Do you deny he was behind sending Pattons supplies to Monty for that disaster in Market Garden?

You have been reading the NY Times too much.

"The soldiers swept through in an orgy of rape. Only when the Red Army commanders arrived was the question asked: 'But who are you?'

'We are Jews. "

CHILLS, and I am sitting right by the heater. THAT is going to give me nightmares.

Eisenhower was a traitor.

It was Roosevelt selling out Eastern Europe to the Soviets. Your comments are evidence of utter ignorance and idiocy.
