McCain weighs in on gun case at Supreme Court
As the Supreme Court hears oral arguments this morning on whether the Second Amendment guarantees citizens the right to keep firearms or whether that right is tied to membership in a militia, one presidential candidate has weighed in on the issue, signing onto a friend of the Court brief.
Sen. John McCain, who is traveling overseas this week as part of an Armed Services congressional delegation, issued a statement calling District of Columbia v. Heller a landmark case for all Americans who believe as I do that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to keep and bear arms.
Washington, D.C. has the strictest gun control rules in the country, banning people from keeping handguns in their homes.
Like Vice President Cheney, McCain has joined in an amicus brief contending that the clear intent of our Founding Fathers is to allow individuals the right to keep firearms. This is the first time that the Supreme Court may decide whether there is a Constitutional right protecting gun owners.

There’s a big point in his favour.
If only he really meant it.
I could list the names of those who are going to show up on this thread and repeat all their laments about McCain, but I don’t have to. They’ll be here soon enough.
>> If only he really meant it.
Why do you think he didn’t? Do you have evidence to the contrary?
(Not a challenge; just asking.)
It’s not as if they have any valid concerns about McCain’s RKBA commitment, “gun show loophole” and all.
Yep. Good on McCain for this one.
I believe he has been consistently in favor of the 2nd Amendment.
Agreed, but it’s not like Sandra Froman is in the running for the presidency. Warts and all, McCain is going to be better that Hussein or HilLIARy
yeah, yeah, yeah...
Let’s continue to re-fight the South Carolina primary.
That’ll be helpful.
Glad to hear it! Go John!
thanks SJ...
for mccain words are meaningless now...
The Gun Owners of America (a more pro-Second Amendment group than the NRA itself) has a less-than-favorable view of McCain's position on gun rights.
See http://www.gunowners.org/mccaintb.htm for further details.
I think it is time to face facts, just like you said. He with no middle name or the shrew that rides a broom would be far worse!
GOA (Gun Owners of America) has given McCain an “F” rating over the last four or five years, largely because of the McCain-Lieberman “Gun Show Loophole” bill. He also did radio ads for a Soros-funded anti-2A group in Colorado during a recent election.
McCain’s had his share of transgressions on the issue.
FReepers need to understand that the libs have operatives on this site - just like we have ours on DKook’s, DUnderwear, etc. It’s not difficult to tell who they are.
Even a broken clock is right twice a day...
His record is not good on the 2A. You don’t know that?
Oh yee of little faith. lol
Sadly, I am highly skeptical myself, not only on this issue, but on Judges, the border, taxes, etc., ad, nauseum.
Let’s hope the USSC puts this to rest once and fro all.
