FEDERAL COURT: A federal judge sentenced seven members of a notorious state prison gang to life in prison yesterday.
The sentence by U.S. District Judge Dana Sabraw capped an extensive investigation into the Mexican Mafia that targeted upper echelon members of the gang on racketeering and conspiracy charges.
The seven members of the gang sentenced yesterday were convicted by a jury after a monthlong trial that ended Jan. 4.
The defendants were charged with a variety of crimes, including two murders, attempted murder, drug sales and money laundering.
In October, two top members of the gang, Raul Leon and Salvador Perez, pleaded guilty to similar charges and will be sentenced in April.
Sentenced yesterday were Eduardo Gonzalez-Gallegos, George Fernandez, Thomas Durkin, Salvador Perez, Richard Valenzuela, Cesar Abarca and Joshua Cruz. Several are serving life sentences in state prison for other crimes. G.M.
Hopefully this doesn’t mean that we, the taxpayer, will feed and house them while they carry on business as usual in prison.
yup, how many thosand is it now a year? 30K, 40K..
look at it this way,, it’s just means more mamacitas for the rest of the those still on the street... and they’re breeding ..
Oh wait, that isn’t such a great thing either, huh?
The Mexican government thanks all Americans for being so generous in providing free room-and-board for its country’s criminals.
Hopefully this doesnt mean that we, the taxpayer, will feed and house them while they carry on business as usual in prison.
In a more perfect world, they would have received a sentence of life in prison without being fed.
MEXICAN.
Wow, quite the Revelation.
See this for a pretty good history.
So a bunch of them were already in prison for life. I'll bet the prospect of another life sentence had 'em quaking in their boots.

worked on preview....
And he sternly warned them if they do it again they’ll get DOUBLE LIFE!
Worthless unless these animals get sent to supermax.
Big deal.
The Mexican Mafia was formed in prison, and has always been run from prison. Going to prison if you’re a member is like getting a promotion.
Call me when they actually find a way to keep the thugs behind bars from running this multi-million dollar criminal enterprise.
Don’t they put folks like that in one certain maximum security unit?
I can’t remember the name right now, but I still believe they’ve probably found a way around it to continue to rule with a bloody fist given the widespread corruption, regardless of how much security they are under.
Some of them, yes. But even in SuperMax they have intercepted several coded communications that show these guys manage to do business behind bars. To stop them you literally have to cut off all contact from the outside world. The same is true of the Aryan Brotherhood.
These organizations are incredibly sophisticated, and the guys in charge have little risk because the most they can ever be charged with is conspiracy, and they’re already in prison, usually for life, so why would they care?
The gangs on the streets are increasingly just the muscle for prison gangs.
Is it even possible to completely cut off all outside contact?
I bet even in SuperMax somebody can be bought into a position of messenger.
Possible? Yes.
But doubtful that the ACLU would let it happen.
