The campaign of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) is seeking to play down news that the former first lady gave an incorrect account of landing in Bosnia in 1996 under sniper fire, and refused to answer additional questions about a flap that could hurt her chances of catching Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) in the race for the Democratic nomination.
“We’ve said all we’re going to say on that,” said Deputy Communications Director Phil Singer on a Tuesday morning conference call with reporters.
A video from CBS News had shown that Clinton’s version of having come under sniper fire was not correct. Her campaign chalked up the discrepancy between her account and the video as a case of Clinton misspeaking.
The Obama campaign seized on the story when it was splashed across the CBS website Monday, with spokesman Tommy Vietor saying it is “part of a troubling pattern of Sen. Clinton inflating her foreign policy experience.”
Top Clinton surrogates also sought to play down the story, which could prove to be harmful to the former first lady’s chances.
Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Pa.), who was asked about the flap on MSNBC, referred to it as a “small incident that happened 10 to 15 years ago.”

This morning one of her defenders was saying that maybe she got confused with a later trip to Iraq — where there was gunfire.
If it happened in say, Beirut and she said Bosnia...that would be mis-speaking.

A friend of mine is a USAF CMS (retired) and was the enlisted crew chief on the earlier flight that brought Bill into the action zone. Bill was so happy about the flight and the job that the crew did that he invited the whole gang to visit the White House a few months later. My friend was offered the chance to sit “in the Big Seat” in the Oval Office, but declined. Later I kidded him that he must have been frighted by Monica looking up from under the desk. He chuckled.
I will ask him what his thoughts are about this Hillary lie.
If it is insignificant & happened years ago - why does she keep bringing it up during this campaign & pretending she's some macho - ready to be CIC!!

What really amazed me was how brave that little girl was to shake hands with HRC on the tarmac despite the snipers. She was so....calm.

Outstanding! Hillary had a John Kerry moment and talked about that stuff that was seared in her mind and got “swiftboated” by members her own party. This is an historic day!

I live for the day when those running for this high office of POTUS can honestly tell me with a straight face everything and I can believe that they are not liars. Some would say we have had that before or that we can never have that at all. I disagree...we CAN have this...WE just do not demand it. We get what we deserve.
This reminds me of the time Hillary said the Chelsea was right under the falling debris of the falling towers in New York on 9/11. Turned out Chelsea wasn’t aware of her mothers statement and states she wasn’t anywhere near the towers on 9/11. Doesn’t phase Hillary; she just moves on to the next lie.

I guess that Senator B. (whose middle name must NEVER be spoken) Obama just 'misspoke' when he said he had only heard one of two of his racist mentor's comments (as he later admits in his "I HAVE AN EXCUSE" speech that he actually DID attend some of those horrible rants).

I don’t know if you could call it sniper fire, exactly, but when that LST ramp hit the sand at Omaha Beach in Bosnia (work with me here, people) she and Matt Damon were too busy taking the pins out of the grenades with their teeth to notice the Red Baron strafing them. I think that’s what must have happened.

Even my wife saw the story and said “this is serious”. That means it will have an effect on the average non-thinking voter. I love her, but she’s as politically naive as can be.
