"In a lawsuit Van der Hooning filed against the U of I, he claims top administrators of the business school indicated there were too many "jarheads" in the program. Van der Hooning says he was ordered to reduce MBA scholarships from 110 to 17, and told to concoct "technical reasons" to dump veterans from the program."
"In other words, he claims that the U of I ordered a cover-up."

No problem... Cancel scholarships to veterans? Sure... Let’s cancel all federal funding to the school. Including student aid. I’m sure the college would do just fine with a student population measured in the hundreds, if that.

We’ll see about Van der Hooning. I’m sure they don’t understand the word ; ) But one thing’s for sure. Everybody’s innocent until proven guilty....
except jarheads.
That’s my alma mater. They weren’t a whole lot more welcoming to ROTC students in the 70’s.

Yet liberals keep saying that the military is using our young men and women who aren't able to get into college, or not smart enough for further education, or are the "victimized" minorities who don't have any chances in life. They complain that military service is the last resort for them because they have no chances. They say these young people are given no opportunities. Yet, it is because of the military and the educational opportunities afforded to all members that we have so many "jarheads" in college! These liberals say that our government recruits these people and that educated people with opportunities and college educations do not join the military.
Now we have this University complaining that too many military students are MBA candidates! LOL Guess this proves the liberal whiners are stupidly wrong - again!
HELP US JON KERY WE R STUK IN URBANA CHAMPANE AND CAN NOT GET INTO BIZNIS SKUL
I have not seen any numbers but I suspect the Vets are more successful in school then the typical incoming.
At my sons last Iraq homecoming (USMC Infantry) I met some of the guys who were now attending school. They said it was going well and many of their fellow students (non Vet) were not focussed on school.
I attended a local community college while active duty (retired now) and several of the professors stated the same thing. The active duty and vets were more driven to accomplish the course work with the highest possible grade (sans grading curve) than the other students.

Don't ask about the salary or job description for upper echelon school administrators.
Unless things have changed since I was at Screw of I, it's publicly available information. You could go to the library and request it, and be given a book listing what everyone, top to bottom, was paid.
It was pretty depressing reading, if you were a dead end peon with a lot of mouths to feed, like I was.

“...U of I announced two years ago that it was going to give out up to 110 full-ride master's degree scholarships for veterans...”
This means a number from 0 to 110.
“And now, the Illinois Court of Claims that heard Mr. Van der Hooning’s case has ruled largely in his favor. The court last Friday upheld five of the six counts filed by the former dean, denying U of I's motion to dismiss his complaint.”
This means that a judge found enough merit from a one-sided argument to have an actual court case for five of the six allegations.
This whole thing sounds like a man who accidentally gave out the maximum scholarships without talking with his supervisors about the budget or the appropriateness of his actions.
Additionally, Mr. van der Hooning is the only one who has stated such things about the others in the program. Their voices will be heard, apparently, in court.
This is a VERY ONE-SIDED story. I know two of the people involved, and I highly doubt this situation is nearly what van der Hooning has claimed or taken for himself in the press over the past year.
Reply #20 from yesterday:
. “Smells like a Land o’(bama) Lincoln discrimination lawsuit to me. “
It appears to me that Van der Hooning is using the ‘jarhead’ issue as a pretext to recover his old position.
It also appears that no one quoted in this article understands the word ‘jarhead’.

I’ll say this about Pat Quinn: He stands 100% behind the troops at every opportunity. If even half the elected Democrats were like this guy we’d have the war won by now.
It appears so according to the USMC press release from two years ago. It was going great guns, then. http://www.allbusiness.com/government/3567850-1.html
Sounds like somebody screwed the pooch. Why would I think that racial profiling would have anything to do with this?
The problem was referred to President B. Joseph White, who apparently decided van der Hooning’s boss, Dean of the College of Business, Avijit Ghosh was the responsible party.
