Terri Schiavo's Family Calls for Observance of Terri's Day to Honor Disabled Woman

St. Petersburg, FL (LifeNews.com) -- Terri Schiavo's family and a leading pro-life group are calling on people to honor the disabled woman whose husband took her life in a painful euthanasia death. Together with Priests for Life, the Schindler family has established the observance of “Terri’s Day” each March 31.

That's the day Terri succumbed to a 13-day starvation and dehydration death at the hand of Michael Schiavo, her former husband who won a court order to take her life.

“This third anniversary should be an occasion for all of us to both remember the injustice done to Terri, and reach out to others with prayer and concrete action when they need the kind of help Terri needed," Terri's brother Bobby Schindler told LifeNews.com on Monday.

Suzanne Vitadamo, Terri’s sister, added that Terri's Day is also a way for her family to encourage others to take better care of the elderly and disabled.

“Our family continues to be consoled and uplifted by the many ways in which people honor my sister, learn from her story, and grow in compassion for all the disabled," she said.

During the days leading up to Terri's death, Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life brought comfort and peace to the Schindler family.

Father Pavone was present for the final prayer Terri participated in before her death. He also saw the manipulative ways Michael tried to prevent the Schindler family from caring for her or being present with her during the starvation and dehydration.

“Terri’s death was not the end of her fight," he told LifeNews.com. "It was the beginning of a new chapter in the pro-life movement."

"I call upon all those who were moved by Terri’s death to continue their courageous activism in the cause of life, and never to be silent," he said.

Together, Priests for Life and the Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation encourage churches, families, organizations and individuals to observe Terri’s Day with prayers, memorial services, educational activities and community outreach.

The mood at the counter-protest was upbeat, with cheers greeting a call of “20 years of reproductive choice in this country!”

Unless a woman is raped (and the incidence of pregnancy from rape is so low that really shouldn't be a factor in the abortion debate, but is routinely brought up by abortionists for emotional reasons), they already had the "choice" whether or not to reproduce.

By the time a person goes off to college they have generally spent far more time in school learning about sexuality than they have spent learning about our nation's history and Constitution. If they have not learned by the age of 18 that there is a 100% foolproof method to prevent pregnancy, than they are wasting their time and money in college and should pursue careers that are better suited to their intellectual abilities, perhaps they could remove animal feces from city parks.

Bobby Schindler speaks...

..................................

The decision to remove Terri Schiavo’s feeding tube is comparable in its inhumanity to the actions of the Nazis during World War II, Schiavo’s brother Bobby Schindler said before an audience of mostly students in Frist 302 last night.

Schiavo died in 2005 at age 41, two weeks after doctors, following orders from a federal judge, removed a feeding tube that had kept her alive for more than a decade.

Schiavo had previously suffered brain damage following an incident of cardiac arrest, which had deprived her brain of oxygen.

“There is no such thing as a person who is a non-person. There is no one so disabled that they have lost their value or dignity,” Schindler said, adding that classifying individuals as “non-persons” would be akin to “walk[ing] down the same path that led to the Nuremberg trials.”....................

Whatever...

.................................

I thought the conservative movement wanted less government influence in people's lives, yet over and over again they want government laws to tell you what to do. They do this by legislating morality.

From the federal Terri Schiavo's Law, to Rhonda Storm's intelligent design bill disguised as "academic freedom," to this abortion bill, conservatives want government control of your moral choice. It is getting to the point where I can't tell a conservative from a liberal. Both want all problems solved by government.

It is becoming difficult to vote for either party these days. Do I want the liberal government telling me what to do or the religious right "conservatives" making me live in the way they see fit?........

A different view of Terri's plight: It is described here as a large impact on the public as a civil case. Funny, I think of it as a criminal case. Maybe one day...

Despite the media's focus on the daily dramas of real litigants and their lawyers, the impact of judicial decisions may affect those who aren't even parties to a specific case. Though the criminal prosecutions of Michael Jackson and O.J. Simpson captured enormous public attention, the same could be said for civil cases involving Terry Schiavo, Elian Gonzales, Bush v. Gore, and Big Tobacco -- cases which were likely to have much more impact on the lives of everyday citizens than matters centering on the fate of Scott Peterson or the actor formerly known as Baretta............

Bristol, RI (LifeNews.com) -- Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia continues to educate the law students of America and, once again, presented his explanation that no right to abortion exists in the Constitution to students at Roger Williams University. Last month, Scalia told students at the University of Central Missouri the same thing.

Scalia said a legal right to an abortion is not found in the document that guides our judicial process............

Those who needed an excuse to snuff babies are losing an excuse.

London, England (LifeNews.com) -- While pro-life advocates have repeated the mantra for years that embryonic stem cell research hasn't helped a single patient while adult stem cells have already been used in humans afflicted with dozens of diseases, a leading scientist in England is beginning to admit defeat.

Lord Patel of Dunkeld, the chairman of the UK National Stem Cell Network and a chancellor at Dundee University, says embryonic stem cell research is simply not working.....

Aptly named my old home town is at the crucible of the moment in this clash between Wesley J. Smith and Hillary, i.e. Eugene eugenics and euthanasia.

Thread by wagglebee.

Salem, OR (LifeNews.com) -- Comments pro-abortion Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton made over the weekend have drawn significant attention from those opposed to euthanasia. Clinton gave a convoluted answer to a local Oregon newspaper's question on assisted suicide but appeared to support the grisly practice.

The Eugene Register Guard newspaper asked Clinton about her "attitude" towards the law....

The decision to remove Terri Schiavo’s feeding tube is comparable in its inhumanity to the actions of the Nazis during World War II,

Actually, it was worse because the Nazis never made any pretense that they "loved" their victims or that they were just "following the wishes" of their victims.

This sounds like the rantings of a typical libertarian (and unfortunately FR still has a few of these disruptors). They seem to have a total inability to distinguish between “limited” government and “no” government and they are actually anarchists who prefer the latter. They don’t want anyone to tell them that they can’t smoke pot, watch porn, use prostitutes and kill those they no longer consider useful.

Terri’s warriors never for a moment quit fighting because we all
believed in our hearts America would do the right thing
and rescue her from her tormentors.

Something died in our nation’s psyche the day Terri
succumbed to her murderers.

strike down abortion in all 50 states.

Terri's fight is not even a monolithic group. There are children who are against euthanasia (which is illegal but practiced at the death cult's convenience with certain doctors and lawyers). Those children will grow up and teach their children to be pro-life and that's more than a religious principle. It's in the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights and The Constitution.

Disabled and elder rights are not religious rights. They are HUMAN RIGHTS.

Unfortunately, the felosers branded the fight for Terri as religious wackos which it wasn't but the silver tongued devil already had the deck stacked against Terri with cretin Judge Greer (whose property value as many on Island Estates as published in the newspaper is one-half it's former market value). So, he's suffering out there on his island with the other millionaires. Poor cretin. We all know Greer loves money, especially money tinged with innocent blood.

>>Something died in our nation’s psyche the day Terri succumbed to her murderers.

Something died but something was born. Many stopped that day, suffering the shock, and some continued with even stronger resolve. Testimony to that is just our continuation of Terri Threads. Soon after Terri's death, I was dismayed, not discouraged when so many left, and stayed away from our threads. I fully expected it all to dwindle in a month or two as people quit talking about it and the topic died. But it didn't!

Three years later, tons of repercussions later, it is still going strong, with the world of the left and right reminding us on a daily basis that Terri's Legacy soared. What little faith I had! I blush at the thought. Yes some Terri warriors left, some were only tired and will return, and many joined the battle with us afterwards.

And we persevere as we see those who live for death struggling to pursue their craft even in the face of God.

And Our Lord wins over their gods even as Msgr. Malanowsky reminded us that fateful Easter.

"We will not be silent. We are your bad conscience. The White Rose will give you no rest."

Thank you 8mm for your perseverance and daily reminders of
how precious and infinitely valuable life really is.

One can’t help but think of you and your dearly departed good friend
who would have a good word for us to carry on and never give up, in spite of what sometimes seems like insurmountable odds!
