Jane Fonda, the actress and ardent anti-Vietnam War advocate who visited North Vietnam during those hostilities, has endorsed Democrat Barack Obama for president.
There were no formal ceremonies for the endorsement. In fact, the Obama campaign may just be learning about the actress's approval now as word spreads like lit gunpowder via the Internet.
...a video camera was rolling as she approached the street and someone, perhaps just trying to get her to turn around for a picture, shouted out at her back, "Who are you going to vote for?"
There was a moment of silence. Then, the actress did turn around toward the cameras, paused and with a smile said simply, "Obama!" Then she got into a car and drove away.
The problem for those of a certain generation that endured the Vietnam War and the sometimes violent domestic conflict that accompanied it at home is that during Fonda's controversial wartime visit to North Vietnam, she was photographed at a Communist anti-aircraft gun battery.
As it happens, the Republican presidential candidate this time is Sen. John McCain of Arizona, who was one of those American fliers shot down over that same city by those same anti-aircraft forces, tortured and spent nearly six years in a POW cell while Fonda returned home.

This is great news to start a day with!
Well said. I have no hesitation in voting for McCain over either of the other two. There’s no other choice except to sit out and for me that’s another non-choice.
Not a hard choice for me but I'm not holding my breath and stamping my feet because a "real conservative" didn't win the nomination.
I prefer to phrase the choice in herpetological terms as being between being bitten by a copperhead (McCain), a rattler (the Witch), and a cottonmouth (the Mudslime). The copperhead's a bit less venomous than the other two, but they're all horrible.
...and harder still to accept that there are some who are willing to be stabbed or shot because they find a punch in the nose so distasteful.
...and who are willing to get the rest of us stabbed or shot, too!
July 04 Obama to the CSM,
the United States had an absolute obligation to remain in Iraq long enough to make it a success.
The failure of the Iraqi state would be a disaster,.It would dishonor the 900-plus men and women who have already died. . . . It would be a betrayal of the promise that we made to the Iraqi people, and it would be hugely destabilizing from a national security perspective.
Obama on leaving a strike force in Iraq, March 31, 2008,
What I said is I would have a strike force in the region, perhaps in Iraq, perhaps outside of Iraq, so that we could take advantage ofor we could deal with potential problems that might take place in the region. That's very different from saying we're going to have a permanent occupation in Iraq...
With the undiminished role of the labor-led people's movement, Webb predicted the outcome could bring enormous change that puts people's need before warmaking, sleaze and policies that put profits before peoples need. Such an outcome is possible regardless of whether or not Clinton or Obama wins, he stated.
Jane Fonda, Code Pink, MoveOn, whatever the anti-American group/person might be...Communist and Socialists LOVE the Democratic Socialist Party and that means Barack Hussein Obama and Hillary R. Clinton. Barack just insulted Columbia, SA, both are idiots on NAFTA and the economy Barack hasnt a clue about education in his state and all Hillary can do is harp on universal healthcare and neither mean a word they are blathering about solutions.....(have you seen this pic of the mad woman?)
whoever she is for I am against.
“who visited North Viet Nam”?
Using the term visited a bit loosely are we?
That pretty much locks in the Communist vote for Obama.
Jane was busy cavorting with the North Vietnamese Communists in Hanoi around the same time Obama was studying the koran with the Mullahs in Indonesia.
Go back to DU! You are off the chart insane.
I asked how a traitorous BITCH’s endorsement justifies a statement that implies McCain is a better conservative.
All you did was imply a fantasy world and gave a fantasy filled little speech, but never answered my question as to “how this makes McCain a BETTER CONSERVATIVE?”.
Get a life.
Yes, but it is stil the lesser of two evils.
I thought Hanoi Jane was a BIG femininazi! I thought she would be for Hillary
Except under McCain we will see much more suppression of free speech than under Hitlery/Obama.
McCain wants groups that criticize the government to be censored during elections. If he’s elected president the GOP won’t fight it, and you’ll see forums like Free Republic shut down, fined or regulated if they allow people to criticize politicians during elections.
If a Dem president tries that the GOP will fight it tooth and nail, because the censorship will be pushed by a Dem, not a GOP president.
That’s why I’m not voting for McCain. If he gets elected, mark my words, we will look like Canada or Europe, where people are not allowed to criticize Islam or homosexuals, only McCain will add his own special flavor of censorship, like when he outlawed the NRA and Right to Life’s criticizing politicians during elections.

From “I like Ike” to “I’m fonda B.O.”
“Jane Fonda endorses Barack Obama”
????WTF????
Why is this TRAITOR still walking around free, much less endorsing anyone for president?
